3797 Right worship charity and mercy....

June 11, 1946: Book 48

If you are charitable and merciful you serve Me in the most obvious way, for then you profess your affiliation to Me, Who is love Itself, as soon as you carry out works of love. Humanity is in great need, earthly and spiritually, and you should help everyone and try to alleviate the hardship. You shall give where your gifts are needed, you shall comfort and try to alleviate pain, and through spiritual encouragement you shall come to the aid of their souls, which suffer even more than the body.... You shall keep their hardship in mind and help where you can.... And you will not only reduce the earthly hardship but awaken love and thereby also remedy the spiritual hardship, for only love is an effective antidote for all spiritual and earthly hardship, and only through loving activity can it be successfully controlled. And that is why working with love is the only service of God which is pleasing to Me and which you can perform at any time, on any day and in any place. Wherever it is necessary for you to intervene helpfully, express your love there and My eye will rest favourably on you who thereby serve Me, who honour Me through every help you give to one of the least of your brothers.... For you are all My creatures, you are all children of one father, and if you love and honour your fellow human beings you also love and honour Me, and I accept your services which correspond to My will. And therefore all of you make an effort of true service, serve Me with deeds, not just with words or external gestures which do nothing to alleviate earthly or spiritual hardship. Seek to secure My closeness, My presence, through loving activity and know that you will then be able to accomplish much, full of strength, in order to remedy earthly and spiritual hardship. For then it is I Who works through you, because you draw Me to you through loving activity and I can now visibly support you. You will always be offered the opportunity to be lovingly active, for the hardship around you urgently calls for help, and if you lift up the needy and help them spiritually and earthly you will follow Me.... you walk the path of love I have shown you, you live true christianity, you follow My teaching of love and you will also experience the blessings as I have promised you.... you will inherit My kingdom which is not of this world, for love redeems you from all sins, it sets you free and leads you to unity with Me, Who is the eternal Love Myself....
