Het stadium van het zelfbewustzijn

U mensen bent u van uzelf bewust. En dat is het teken dat u wezens bent met intelligentie, dat wil zeggen: dat u in staat bent te denken en bijgevolg wezens bent die van God afkomstig zijn, die geschapen werden als Zijn evenbeeld en daarom ook van zichzelf bewust waren. Tussen die tijd en de tijd dat u nu op de aarde bent, ligt echter een eindeloos lange tijd waarin u van uw zelfbewustzijn beroofd was. Een tijd waarin u wel ook als iets wezenlijks de scheppingswerken bevolkte, maar dit wezenlijke zich niet van zichzelf bewust was, omdat het steeds slechts als deeltjes van een eens zelfbewust wezen door deze scheppingswerken heen ging. Pas nadat alle deeltjes zich weer verzameld hadden, belichaamde het wezen zich als mens en ging dan ook weer het stadium van het zelfbewustzijn binnen, waarin het nu ook een taak te vervullen heeft.

Als mens draagt het wezen derhalve nu ook een zekere verantwoordelijkheid voor zijn ontwikkeling, omdat het verstandelijk in staat is het voor en tegen van zijn levenswandel in te zien, het kan dus beoordelen welke uitwerking zijn levenswandel op het eigenlijke "ik" - de ziel - heeft. Zolang het wezen zich in de voorstadia niet van zichzelf bewust was, had het ook geen verantwoording te dragen en stond het onder de wet van de gebonden wil. Het deed wat hem door de wil van God was opgedragen. Het handelde instinctmatig, dat wil zeggen: geleid door geestelijke intelligenties die het geestelijke in de scheppingswerken zo beïnvloeden dat het 't werk uitvoerde dat voor hem bestemd was.

Anders is het nu gesteld in het stadium als mens, waarin het wezen over zichzelf beslissen kan, waarin het denkt en handelt, waarin het als zelfbewust wezen de volle vrijheid heeft van denken en handelen. En het moet nu bewust denken en willen en handelen naar de wil van God, het wordt nu niet meer door Gods wil bepaald maar zijn eigen wil moet nu beslissen en altijd onder invloed van zijn eigen zelfbewustzijn, want de mens voelt dat hij over zichzelf beschikt - hij is zich van zichzelf bewust. Hij staat niet meer onder vreemde invloed maar richt zelf zijn wil naar eigen believen en hij weet ook dat hij zich ervoor moet verantwoorden hoe hij zijn wil richt.

En dat onderscheidt de mens van het dier, dat in zijn ontwikkeling ook al ver gevorderd is, maar tot de laatste belichaming als mens steeds een wezen blijft dat onder de wet van de gebonden wil staat en niet vrij over zichzelf beslissen kan, al mag het nog zo intelligent lijken. Het heeft nog niet het zelfbewustzijn terug gekregen en is daarom nog niet in het laatste stadium van belichaming beland. Toch zal ook dit de laatste fase bereiken, want al het geestelijke neemt eens zijn levenswandel op aarde op zich, waarbij het zich als mens belichaamt en zich ook van zichzelf bewust is.

Dat echter de mens een zelfbewust wezen is moest hem ook laten concluderen dat zijn Schepper en Maker, zijn God van eeuwigheid geen irreële geest kan zijn, maar dat Hij als het hoogst volmaakte Wezen eveneens kan denken en een vrije wil heeft, daar er anders nooit zulke schepselen uit Hem konden zijn voortgekomen die deze kenmerken van goddelijkheid vertonen. Want uitgaande van de mens - het schepsel - kan ook de gevolgtrekking worden gemaakt dat er een God, een Schepper is. Het hoogste Wezen moet zelfbewust zijn, net als de mens zelfbewust is, alleen in hoogste volmaaktheid, aangezien de mens onweerlegbaar een nog onvolmaakt wezen is. Maar het zelfbesef heeft hij ondanks alle onvolmaaktheid. En dit maakt de mens tot een goddelijk wezen dat aan Hem gelijk geschapen was en weer tot dezelfde volmaaktheid moet komen waarin het eens van God is uitgegaan.

Het "zelfbewustzijn" is het grootste wonder in het scheppingswerk "mens". De mensen zouden zich eens moeten voorstellen welk een doods leven zij zouden leiden als zij dit zelfbewustzijn niet bezaten dat iedere mens pas het persoonlijke stempel geeft: zichzelf te zien als een wezen dat in staat is te denken en over zichzelf beslissen kan in vrije wil, omdat het over zichzelf ook kan nadenken en zich kan voegen naar het kader van de schepping in het besef van het ik, in het bewustzijn zelf te kunnen beslissen wat zijn "ik" wil. Dat zelfbewustzijn is een duidelijk teken van goddelijkheid, want het is een teken van verbondenheid met een gelijksoortig Wezen, Dat hem in 't leven riep, ook al is het wezen als mens maar een karikatuur van dat wat God eens schiep. Maar het heeft toch het zelfbewustzijn ontvangen en kan zichzelf daarom ook weer vormen tot het oerwezen, dat het vanaf het begin der tijden was. Het kan in het stadium als mens - in het stadium van het zelfbewustzijn - alles doen wat het wil, zelfs als hem soms de mogelijkheid dit te realiseren door de wil van God wordt beknot. Maar het is in staat te denken en plannen te maken, altijd van zichzelf uitgaande, zich altijd in het middelpunt voelend van alles wat er gebeurt, omdat het weet dat het er is en dit bewustzijn ook niet meer verliest. Daarom echter zal het ook eenmaal tot verantwoording geroepen worden hoe zijn houding was in het aardse leven tegenover deze grote genade: te weten dat het een zelfbewust wezen is dat door de Schepper zo gemaakt werd, besef van zichzelf te hebben en vanuit zichzelf de ware verhouding tot zijn Schepper tot stand te brengen.

Het denkvermogen behoort tot het zelfbewustzijn en kan pas dan ware vruchten opleveren, maar altijd moet de vrije wil werkzaam zijn die evenzo bij een goddelijk schepsel hoort. En deze vrije wil moet alle goddelijke gaven juist gebruiken, dan zal het wezen ook tijdens het leven als mens de weg nemen die onherroepelijk tot de verandering ten goede voert en het zal in alle volmaaktheid terugkeren in het vaderhuis - zoals het eens van daar is uitgegaan.

Stage of self-awareness....

You humans are conscious of your Self.... And this is the indication that you are intelligent beings, i.e., that you are able to think and are therefore beings who came forth from God, created in His image and therefore also aware of yourselves. But from this time until your present life on earth you spent an infinitely long time deprived of your self-awareness, a time, when you indeed also animated the works of creations as something spiritually tangible but this spiritual substance was not conscious of itself because it only ever passed through these works of creation as a small component of a once self-aware being. Only after all the small parts had come together again the being embodied itself as a human being and then also entered the stage of self-awareness once again, in which it now has to accomplish a task.

Hence, as a human being it carries a certain amount of responsibility for its development because it is intellectually capable of recognising the pros and cons of everyday life, thus it is able to assess the effects of its conduct on the human being's real Self.... the soul. As long as the being was not aware of itself during the preliminary stages it did not have to shoulder responsibility either, and it was subject to the law of compulsion.... it implemented what God's will had assigned it to do. It behaved according to instinct, i.e. it was guided by spiritual intelligences which influenced the spiritual substance within the works of creation such that it performed the activity it was destined to do.

This, however, is different in the stage of a human being when it has self-determination, when it thinks and acts, when, as a self-aware being, it has complete freedom of thought, will and action.... And now it should consciously think, want and behave in accordance with God's will, it is no longer determined by God's will but its own will should decide and always in view of self-awareness, for the human being perceives himself as the determining factor, he is aware of himself.... He is no longer subject to unknown influence but chooses the direction of his will according to his own liking, and he also knows that he will have to be answerable to how he directs it.

This differentiates the human being from the animal, which is already far advanced in its development but which, until its final incarnation as a human being, will always remain a being that is subject to the law of compulsion and incapable of self-determination, irrespective of how intelligent it appears to be. It has not yet regained its self-awareness and therefore not reached the final stage of embodiment either. But it will reach the final stage, for every soul will sooner or later accept its path of earthly life when it embodies itself as a human being and is conscious of its ego.

But the fact that the human being is a self-aware being should also make him conclude that his Creator and Designer, his God of eternity, cannot be an intangible spirit but that He, as the supremely perfect Being, is equally intelligent and has free will otherwise living creations which demonstrate such evidence of divinity could not have emerged from Him. For from the human being.... the created.... it is also possible to infer to God, the Creator. The highest Being has to be self-aware too, just like the human being is self-aware, only to the highest perfection, because the human being is still undeniably an imperfect being. But, despite his imperfection, he has self-awareness and only this renders the human being a divine being, which was created in His image and shall become as perfect again as it once was when it had come forth from God.

'Consciousness of Self' is the greatest miracle of the work of creation 'Man'.... People should consider the fact that they would live an empty life without this self-awareness, which gives every person his personal hallmark in the first place: to recognise himself as an intelligent being and to be able to make his own free decisions, because the human being is able to think about himself and integrate into the framework of creation in awareness of his ego.... in awareness of determining for himself what his 'ego' wants.... Self-awareness is an obvious mark of Divinity, for it is a sign of belonging to a kindred Being Which brought him into being.... even if the being as a person is a mere distortion of what God once created.... but he received his self-awareness and therefore is also able to shape himself again into the original being he was in the beginning. In the stage as a human being.... in the stage of self-awareness.... the being is able to achieve whatever it wants, even if God now and then restricts its opportunity of implementation, but it is capable of planning and thinking, always being its own starting point, always experiencing itself in the centre of all happening because it knows it exists and will not lose this consciousness again either. For this reason, however, it will also be held to account one day in regards to how it dealt in earthly life with the great blessing of knowing that it is a self-aware being which was designed by a Creator in order to be able to recognise itself and to voluntarily establish the right kind of relationship with its Creator....

The faculty of thought belongs to self-awareness and only this can yield the right kind of fruit, but free will always has to be active too, which equally belongs to a divine living creation.... And this free will has to utilise all divine gifts properly, then the being will take the right path during its earthly life as a human being which will, without fail, lead to a retransformation and it will return into its Father's house in all perfection, just as it once had come forth from there....
