이 땅의 삶의 목적은 자유의지로 사랑으로 섬기는 일이다.

너희 사람들이 사랑으로 서로를 섬기는 일이 이 땅의 삶의 목적이다. 왜냐면 단지 섬기는 사랑이 이웃을 향한 진정한 사랑이기 때문이다. 사람은 이웃 사람의 도움 없이 살 수 있다고 믿어서는 안 된다. 그에게 이웃이 필요하고 마찬가지로 그는 이웃을 도와야 한다. 왜냐면 인간의 심장 안의 사랑에 불이 붙이려면, 한동안 이웃의 도움에 의존되어 있어야만 하고, 그렇지 않으면 그에게 자신의 사랑을 확장시킬 기회가 주어지지 않을 것이기 때문이다.

모든 물질적인 창조물 가운데 증명할 수 있는 일은 모든 창조물이 자신의 사명을 가지고 있는 일이고, 모든 창조물이 의무의 상태에서 다른 창조물의 유지와 활력에 기여하는 자신의 성명을 성취시키면서 모든 창조물을 섬기는 일이다. 섬기는 일은 또한 사람의 과제이다. 그럴지라도 사람은 자유의지로 섬겨야 한다. 즉 섬기는 일이 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하는 데서 비롯되야 한다. 이런 섬기는 사랑이 유일하게 인간을 구원한다. 왜냐면 사람이 섬기는 사랑을 통해 오만함과 지배욕으로 하나님을 떠나 타락한 영적인 존재의 옛 죄를 해결할 수 있기 때문이다.

그러나 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하라는 계명에 순종하지 않는 사람의 영은 아직 오만함으로 가득 차 있고, 자신의 이 땅의 삶의 목적을 깨닫지 못하고 있다. 그러므로 그는 구원을 받지 못한 상태로 머문다. 그는 몸을 벗은 후에 자유롭게 움직일 수 없게 되고, 이 땅의 삶을 충분하게 활용하지 못한 것이다. 비록 이 땅의 삶이 그에게 세상적인 유익을 얻게 해주었고, 그가 삶의 마지막에 가서 자신의 바쁜 삶을 돌아볼 수 있게 될지라도, 그는 헛되이 산 것이다. 이 일은 사람의 몸에 관한 일이 아니라 사람의 혼에 관한 일이다. 육체는 혼이 육체 안에서 성숙할 수 있도록 혼에게 주어졌고, 육체는 단지 목적을 향한 수단이었다. 왜냐면 혼은 불멸하지만 육체는 죽고, 혼이 이 땅에서 얻은 어떤 것도 영의 나라로 가지고 가지 못하기 때문이다.

그러므로 사람이 단지 자신을 돌보고 이웃에게 무관심하게 사는 동안에는, 사람이 이웃의 고통에 열린 심장과 눈이 없는 동안에는, 그는 자기 사랑에 의해 지배를 받는다. 자기 사랑은 혼의 성장하는 일에 큰 장애물이다. 왜냐면 자기 사랑은 끌어내리고, 자기 사랑은 잘못된 방향으로 향한 사랑이고 절대로 구원하는 효력이 없고 사람들을 더욱 묶기 때문이다. 즉 자기 사랑으로는 절대로 깨어나게 할 수 없는 사람의 영을 사슬로 묶는 것처럼 묶기 때문이다.

자신을 사랑하는 사람은 항상 이웃을 무시할 것이고, 자신의 유익을 구하지 않는 이웃사랑으로 섬기는 일이 그에게 불가능하다. 왜냐면 지배하려는 원칙이 아직 그 안에 있고, 이런 원칙이 모든 사랑을 행하는 일을 막기 때문이다. 인류가 이제 더 깊게 자기 사랑에 빠질수록, 세상적인 고난이 더 커지게 될 것이고, 하나님 자신이 이런 고난을 심장에 이웃을 향한 사랑의 불을 지피는 수단으로 사용한다. 이웃 사람의 고난에 심장이 움직이는 사람은 아직 강팍해진 사람이 아니고, 그의 구원은 의문시되지 않는다.

영적인 위험이 너무 커져 인간의 심장 안의 사랑이 식게 되면, 이 땅에 고난이 있어야만 한다. 그러면 하나님이 이웃의 고통으로 인해 사람의 심장이 뜨거워지게 한다. 이로써 사람들이 섬기는 이웃 사랑을 통해 그들의 혼을 성숙하게 해야 하는 이 땅의 삶의 목적을 달성하게 한다. 왜냐면 사랑이 단지 그들을 구원하고, 사랑이 단지 그들이 자유를 얻게 하고, 혼에게 빛과 힘을 주고, 사랑이 단지 혼을 깊은 곳에서 위로 끌어 올리고, 사랑이 단지 혼을 밤의 어두움에서 빛과 자유 가운데로 인도하기 때문이다.

Earthly life purpose: serving in love in free will....

This is the purpose of your earthly life, that you humans serve each other in love, because only serving love is true love for your neighbour. The human being must not believe that he can manage without the help of his fellow human being. He needs his neighbour, just as he should help him. Because love should ignite in the human heart, the fellow human being must sometimes be dependent on help, otherwise he would not be given the opportunity to develop his love. What can be proven in the whole of material creation is that everything has its purpose, that therefore every work of creation serves by fulfilling its purpose in a state of necessity to contribute to the preservation and enlivenment of other works of creation.... This is also the human being's task, to serve, however in free will, thus out of love for God and his neighbour. And this serving love alone redeems the human being, for thereby he cancels the old sin, the apostasy of the spiritual from God in arrogance and lust for power.... But anyone who does not submit to this commandment of love for God and his neighbour is still full of arrogance, he does not recognize his purpose of earthly life and therefore remains unredeemed.... he cannot move in freedom after laying down his body, he has not made use of earthly life, he has lived it in vain.... even if it has brought him earthly advantage and he can look back on a busy life at the end. It is about the soul of man, not about his body. The body was given to him so that the soul could mature in him, the body was only the means to an end, for the soul is immortal, but the body dies, and the soul takes nothing of what it has acquired on earth over into the spiritual kingdom. Therefore, as long as the human being only cares for himself and lives apathetically next to his fellow human being, as long as he does not have an open heart and eye for his fellow human being's hardship, he is dominated by selfish love, which is a great obstacle for the soul's upward development. For this self-love pulls down, self-love is a wrongly directed love which never has a redeeming effect but binds the human being even more, which puts itself like a fetter around his spirit, which can never be brought to awakening through self-love. Anyone who loves himself will always look down on his fellow human being, and serving in unselfish neighbourly love is impossible for him, for the ruling principle is still in him and holds him back from every treatment of love. Now the deeper humanity is in selfish love, the greater will also be the earthly adversity which God Himself uses as a means to kindle the flame of love for the neighbour in the heart. Whose heart is touched by the hardship of his fellow human being is not yet hardened and his salvation is not in question. It must be earthly hardship when spiritual hardship has become so great that love has grown cold in people's hearts.... Then God seeks to warm people's hearts with the adversity of their fellow human beings so that they fulfil their purpose of earthly life, to increase their soul's maturity through serving neighbourly love, for only love redeems them, only love sets the soul free and gives it light and strength, only love pulls the soul up from the abyss to the height, only love leads it out of the darkness of night into light and freedom....
