Serious examination of spiritual knowledge with God's support....

No person is denied the right to draw his own conclusions, but he should also know that intellect alone is no guarantee for correct thinking, irrespective of how keenly developed it is. This, in particular, applies to the assessment of spiritual knowledge for which no evidence can be produced. Whether or not such knowledge is truth can be assessed by a person as soon as he turns to God Himself for enlightened thinking.... otherwise he would be unable to examine it or form a correct judgment. But every person also has the right to reject what he cannot accept, providing he is of good will and examines it without bias. He should not blindly believe, he should think about what he is expected to believe, and he should pray for God's support to do so, he should know that the spirit within instructs him. This also demonstrates the right kind of desire for truth, and thus the truth will be given to him and he will also be able to recognise it as truth. For much is given to people as truth which nevertheless frequently contradicts itself, and then it is up to the person himself to ascertain the truth. But anyone who believes that he can figure it out with his intellect alone can expect to get even more entangled in error, because the intellect is influenced by the adversary of truth, by the prince of darkness, who will do anything to divert people from the truth and provide them with misconceptions.

However, the human being can protect himself by turning to God, by appealing to Him for the recognition of truth. For this reason no one can raise the objection that he is unable to form a correct judgment about truth or error.... As soon as he makes contact with God, as soon as he appeals to Him for enlightenment of spirit he will emotionally recognise whether he should turn to or ignore the spiritual knowledge given to him.... And he will always have the inner certainty of judging correctly because he has not formed his own judgment but God has enlightened his thoughts. But the good will to recognise and to do what is right always has to be part of it.... A rational person, however, will not scrutinise in himself what he is inclined to accept or reject.... He only uses his intellect which, however, takes a different direction, it does not consult God Himself but deems itself qualified for an examination. And it will frequently get it wrong because God does not want to be excluded and because truth comes forth from Him alone.

Yet neither should an examination be omitted because the person allegedly does not feel qualified to make a correct judgment.... For one day he will have to be answerable, and he will not be able to justify himself on account of other people's judgment which he accepted without hesitation because it was expected of him.... He should attain a living faith and that requires deliberation of what he is taught. Only the living faith will be valued by God, a dead faith, a conventional faith is, however, as good as no faith at all....

And thus you humans will repeatedly have the opportunity to express your opinion about this or that teaching, about the spiritual information imparted to you, and you do well to turn to God Himself, for He, as the Eternal Truth, will make the truth available to you, He will place it into your heart, so that you will be able to form your own judgment, and that this judgment will also correspond to the truth. You should not just trust in your strength alone, for as soon as God cannot take part due to your will, due to your prayer, someone else will take part and he will make use of your intellect.... Then you will distance yourselves increasingly more from the truth, because he will not rest until he has achieved his objective....

Con la Ayuda de Dios examinar concienzudamente todos los bienes espirituales

A nadie está negado el formarse un juicio él mismo, pero que también sepa que la mera sensatez no es una garantía para una forma de pensar correctamente - con lo aguda que estuviera desarrollada. Esto concierne sobre todo la valoración del saber espiritual para el que no se puede facilitar pruebas.

Si tal saber es Verdad o no, esto el hombre sólo puede valorarlo si se dirige a Dios mismo rogándole por esclarecimiento de su pensar, porque de otra manera será incapaz de una valoración... de hacer un juicio justo...

Pero incluso entonces cada hombre tiene el derecho de rechazar lo que él no puede admitir, presuponiendo que es de buena voluntad y examina todo sin prejuicios. Que no crea ciegamente sino que reflexione sobre todo que le exigen que lo crea... y que para esto ruegue a Dios por su Ayuda... y que sepa que el Espíritu en él mismo le enseña... Entonces también se manifiesta un justo deseo de Verdad, con lo que esta también le será ofrecida y él podrá reconocerla como tal.

Mucho de lo que está ofrecido a los hombres como verdad frecuentemente se contradice... Entonces es cosa del hombre mismo el averiguar qué de ello es Verdad. Pero aquel que se imagina poder descubrirla con su mero razonamiento, él puede contar con que se liará cada vez más en el error; porque el razonamiento está influido por el adversario de la Verdad –el príncipe de las tinieblas– el que hace todo lo posible para disuadir a los hombres de la Verdad y para inducirlos en el error.

Pero el hombre puede protegerse de esto - si se dirige a Dios mismo y le ruega que le regale la facultad de reconocer la Verdad. Por eso nadie puede pretender de no ser capaz de hacer un juicio claro sobre Verdad o error. Tan pronto como el hombre se une con Dios y tan pronto que Le ruegue por esclarecimiento de su pensar, lo sentirá en su interior si debe entregarse al bien espiritual que le está ofrecido o si debe negarse a él. Y siempre tendrá la certitud íntima de juzgar de manera cierta porque sabe que no fue él mismo que ha formado el juicio sino que Dios ha esclarecido su pensar. Pero para reconocer y ejecutar lo correcto, siempre hace falta una buena voluntad para ello.

Un hombre intelectual nunca se examina a sí mismo para saber qué es lo que le empuja a aceptar o a rechazar algo. Solamente su intelecto es activo, pero este va por otros caminos y no pide consejo a Dios porque se considera apto para determinar él solo lo que acepta o no. Y este intelecto cometerá muchos errores porque Dios no consiente en ser descartado pues la Verdad surge únicamente de Él.

Por otro lado tampoco se debe omitir el examen de bienes espirituales sólo porque el hombre supuestamente no se considera apto para hacer un juicio objetivo - eso ante el hecho que llegará el día en que tendrá que justificarse, y no podrá referirse al juicio de otros que él había aceptado sin reparos porque así se lo habían exigido... Debe llegar a tener una fe viva, lo que requiere que reflexione sobre lo que se le ha enseñado.

Pues únicamente la fe viva está valorada de Dios, mientras que una fe muerta o una fe formal resulta más bien en una ausencia de fe... Por eso vosotros los hombres cada vez de nuevo tendréis ocasiones para tomar posición con respecto a la una u otra doctrina... a un bien espiritual que os está comunicado... y haréis bien si os dirigís a Dios mismo. Porque Él, siendo la eterna Verdad misma, también hará que esta os llegue; pues señala a vuestro corazón que sois aptos para formaros vuestro propio juicio, y que este juicio también corresponde a la Verdad.

Pero no tengáis solamente confianza en vuestra propia fuerza, porque donde Dios en el caso de la falta de vuestra voluntad –la falta de vuestra oración– no puede entrometerse, allí se entromete otro que se sirve de vuestro razonamiento... Y entonces os alejaréis cada vez más de la Verdad, porque aquel no se para antes de haber logrado su objetivo.
