Mischief and misery.... God's will or permission....

The worldly man is satisfied with what satisfies his bodily senses and does not deprive himself of anything that satisfies his senses, even if he believes that he is indulging in 'spiritual' pleasures and only understands this to mean intellectually acquired goods, if he occupies himself with knowledge which again only concerns earthly things. Thus he feels good and does not deprive himself of anything because his soul does not push itself forward with its desire and cannot push itself forward either, since the body has the upper hand. But this state of contentment does not last until death, or only very rarely, because such a person usually ruins himself physically, because illnesses or increasing age prohibit those earthly pleasures or the fulfilment of bodily desires and the person is then often forced to think about himself, about his life and about the purpose of existence. And then God's love approaches him again and again and tries to hold him back from the world, He tries to impart strength to the soul that it influences the human being from within to detach himself from the previous striving and to free himself from worldly thoughts.... But the soul will only penetrate if it has a certain amount of strength which, however, must come to it from outside.... through help which can consist of good conversation, spiritual conversations or transmission of the divine word, through good books or through loving intercession of a fellow human being.... From this the soul receives the strength to also influence the body, and then a slow change of thinking can occur, and the rest of earthly life can still be used well for the maturing of the soul. Illness, misfortune and earthly hardship are therefore indispensable for people who give themselves too much to the world and are often the best and only means to learn to recognize the world's staleness. And these means are therefore used again and again and become ever more apparent the more humanity turns its gaze to the world. And that is why increased enjoyment of life, excessive earthly pleasures and the sensual performances of the worldly side will always be accompanied by phenomena of a negative kind, by misfortunes, illnesses and blatant misery, which is based on excessive enjoyment of life. People should, as it were, already experience in their own bodies the devastating effects which hedonism and intemperance produce, and they should thereby learn to recognize what the body actually is and what the life they have led up to now has brought them. For other means are unsuccessful with such worldly people, but these can still achieve what ideas and good speeches could not.... that they distance themselves from the world and escape the greatest danger of being devoured by it. For this reason, all apparent disaster in the last days should be regarded as divine will or permission which can also still have a beneficial effect, even if it is caused maliciously or also testifies to adversarial activity.... It can always bring people to their senses and result in a turning away from the world, and then their soul will be saved from a far worse fate after its recall from this world....

재난과 비참함. 하나님의 뜻이나 또는 하나님의 허용.

세상 사람은 자신의 육체적 감각을 만족시키는 일로 만족한다. 그는 이런 자신의 육체적 감각을 만족시키는 어떤 것도 포기하려고 하지 않는다. 비록 그가 영적인 즐거움을 넘치게 누리고 있다고 믿을지라도 그가 단지 세속적인 일에 대한 지식에 관심을 가지면, 그가 누리는 것은 단지 이성을 통해 얻은 지식이다. 그러므로 그는 행복하게 느끼고 어떤 것도 포기하지 않는다. 왜냐면 육체가 더 큰 권세를 가지고 있기 때문에 그의 혼이 자신의 욕망을 관철시키지 않고 관철시킬 수도 없기 때문이다.

그러나 이런 만족한 상태는 죽을 때까지 지속되지 않거나 또는 단지 희귀하게 지속이 된다. 왜냐면 그런 사람은 보통 육체적으로 자신을 파괴하기 때문이고 질병이나 또는 나이가 들어감에 따라 이 땅의 쾌락이나 육체적 욕망을 채우는 일이 불가능하게 되고 사람이 이제 자신에 대해 그리고 자신의 삶과 존재 목적에 대해 자주 생각하도록 강요받기 때문이다. (1956년 9월 4일) 그러면 하나님의 사랑이 항상 또 다시 그에게 다가와 그가 세상을 벗어나게 해주려고 시도하고 혼에게 힘을 주려고 시도해서 혼이 내면으로부터 인간에게 영향을 미쳐 지금까지 추구하는 일을 중단하고 세상적인 생각으로부터 자유롭게 하려고 시도한다.

그러나 혼에게 힘이 있으면, 혼이 단지 관철시키게 될 것이다. 그러나 이런 힘은 외부에서 도움을 통해 와야만 한다. 좋은 대화가 이런 도움이고 영적인 대화나 또는 좋은 책을 통해 또는 이웃의 사랑의 중보를 통해 하나님의 말씀을 받는 일이 이런 도움이다. 이를 통해 혼이 육체에 역사할 힘을 얻게 된다. 그러면 서서히 생각의 변화가 일어날 수 있게 되고 남은 이 땅의 삶을 단지 혼의 성장을 위해 잘 활용할 수 있게 된다.

그러므로 질병과 불행과 세상적인 위험이 세상에 너무 지나치게 빠져 있는 사람들에게 없어서는 안될 일들이고 이런 일들이 자주 세상의 헛된 것임을 깨닫는 법을 배우는 가장 좋은 수단이고 유일한 수단이다. 그러므로 바로 이런 수단이 계속해서 사용되고 인류가 더 많이 세상을 바라볼수록 항상 더 많이 일어나게 된다. 그러므로 삶의 즐거움이 증가하는 일과 이 땅의 과도한 기쁨과 세상이 제공하는 감각을 즐겁게 하는 일들이 항상 부정적인 현상인 불행한 사건들과 질병과 노골적인 비참함을 동반하게 될 것이다.

사람들은 이와 동시에 자신의 몸에 쾌락을 향한 탐욕과 도를 넘어서는 일들이 주는 결과를 체험하게 될 것이다. 그들은 이를 통해 몸이 실제 무엇인지와 지금까지 그들의 삶이 그들에게 어떤 결과를 주었는지 깨달아야 한다. 왜냐면 다른 수단으로는 그런 세상적인 사람들에게 성공하지 못하지만 소개하고 좋은 말을 하는 일이 성취시킬 수 없는 일인 그들이 세상과 거리를 두게 하고 그들이 가장 큰 위험에 빠지는 가장 큰 위험을 벗어나는 일을 이런 수단이 성취시킬 수 있기 때문이다.

그러므로 마지막 때의 겉으로 보기에 일어나는 모든 불행을 하나님의 뜻이거나 또는 하나님의 허용으로 간주해야 한다. 비록 이런 일이 악의적인 원인에 의해 일어나거나 또는 대적자의 역사로 일어날지라도 유익한 결과를 가져올 수 있다. 이런 일이 항상 사람들이 생각하게 만들 수 있고 결과적으로 세상으로부터 멀어지게 할 수 있다. 그러면 그들의 혼이 세상으로부터 부름을 받은 후에 훨씬 더 악한 운명으로부터 구원을 받게 된다.
