God's references to the transience of earthly goods....

The transitoriness of the earthly-material must first be made comprehensible to the human being before he turns to that which is imperishable. Earthly life fills his thoughts because it confronts him with tasks and the fulfilment of duties which will always occupy his thoughts.... And he would be insatiable if everything lasted, because then he would be able to constantly increase his possessions and there would then be no limit to his desires and cravings.... But since matter is transient, he is thereby constantly forced to be active in order to achieve these goods, which can indeed also take up all his thinking but also leaves open the possibility that transience teaches him to think differently.... that it can seem useless to him to use all his vitality only for these goods.... that he has a desire for goods which are imperishable. Only the realization of the worthlessness of earthly possessions can cause him to strive for spiritual possessions.... or else to chase ever more after the transient because it has no permanence.... And even if earthly possessions remain with the human being and he can constantly increase them without them being taken away from him, the thought of death is always a reminder to him that he should detach himself early from that which he nevertheless loses through death.... So everything in life is arranged by God in such a way that the human being can very easily learn to despise the world and its goods and mentally enter another world.... But his thoughts and will are not necessarily directed towards this other world.... man is free to choose which world he allows himself to be captivated by.... And earthly goods will mostly exert a greater attraction because they are tangible and visible, whereas spiritual goods leave little impression because they are supposedly of too little value.... and will only have value for people if they are able to easily detach themselves from earthly goods. If every person were to consider that the very next day could be his last, then all earthly goods and their acquisition would seem completely pointless to him and he would make somewhat more provision for the time after.... But they reject every thought of death as 'still premature' and only enjoy the earthly world and its goods. That is why the closer the end is, the more death is brought before people's eyes.... People are torn out of the midst of life in order to repeatedly point out the transience to their fellow human beings, in order to repeatedly turn their thoughts towards their own demise.... It is so obviously shown how little security each individual may have with regard to his own life.... and again and again possessions are destroyed, earthly goods fall victim to the various catastrophes.... People are always and everywhere pointed to the real, permanent life which everyone can attain if he seriously wants to.... if he strives for spiritual goods which even death cannot take away from him, which will follow him into the kingdom of the beyond when the hour of his passing has come.... Every person should strive for spiritual treasures, then even death will not frighten him; then he will also have become victorious over death, because eternal life awaits him in the spiritual kingdom, which will make him unspeakably happy and last for all eternity....

La advertencia divina de la transitoriedad de los bienes terrestres

Al hombre hay que intentar hacer razonable la transitoriedad de la materia terrenal antes de que preste atención a lo que es inmortal. La vida terrestre llena sus pensamientos, porque le enfrenta con tareas y cumplimiento de obligaciones, las cuales siempre le ocupa su mente.... Y sería insaciable si todo fuera duradero, porque podría aumentar cada vez más sus bienes y no existiera un límite de sus deseos y anhelos.... Pero como la materia es transitoria, siempre está forzado a moverse para recibir estos bienes y lo que igualmente puede ocupar toda su mente, pero también la mortalidad le da la oportunidad de pensar diferente.... que le parece inutil de concentrar toda su energía vital en estos bienes.... que tenga ganas de obtener bienes que son inmortales. Solo la conciencia sobre la nulidad de bienes terrenales le puede empujar a buscar bienes espirituales.... o cazará cada vez más a bienes transitorios, porque no tiene durabilidad.... Y a pesar que el hombre pueda mantener sus bienes terrestres y aumentarlo sin que se lo quite, el pensamiento en la muerte le debe ser un aviso, que se suelte a tiempo de lo que va a perder por la muerte.... Dios arregla todo en la vida para que el hombre pueda aprender a despreciar con facilidad el mundo y sus bienes y que puede juntarse en sus pensamientos a un mundo diferente.... Pero su mente y sus pensamientos no se dirigen forzosamente a este otro mundo.... el hombre está libre de qué mundo se deja captar.... Y bienes terrestres van a tener una fuerza mayor, porque se pueden tocar y son visibles, mientras bienes espirituales dejan poca impresión, porque aparentemente tienen poco valor.... y solo lo tendrán si se puede soltar de bienes terrestres. Si cada hombre pudiera pensar que ya el día siguiente pudiese ser el último para él, entonces los bienes terrestres y su adquisición le pareciera completamente sin sentido, y se prepararía un poco más para el tiempo después.... Pero cualquier pensamiento en la muerte apartan como “todavía prematuro” y solo se alegran de las cosas terrestres y sus bienes. Y por esto se les pone a los hombres cada vez más la muerte ante sus ojos más se acerca el final.... Hombres serán quitados del medio de la vida para apuntar una y otra vez a los semejantes a la transitoriedad, para que se ven obligados de pensar una y otra vez en su propia despedida.... Se les enseña tan obviamente que poca seguridad debe tener cada uno referente a su propia vida.... y se destruye propiedad una y otra vez, bienes terrestres caen víctima de la destrucción por diferentes catástrofes.... Siempre y por todos lados se avisa a los hombres de lo esencial, a la vida constante, que cada uno puede conseguir si lo desea seriamente.... si busca a bienes espirituales, los cuales tampoco la muerte le puede quitar, los que le siguen al reino del más allá, cuando ha venido la hora de su muerte.... Cada hombre debe buscar tesoros espirituales, entonces tampoco la muerte no le va a asustar; entonces ha sido ganador sobre la muerte, porque le espera una vida eterna en el reino espiritual, la cual le hará indeciblemente feliz y tiene duración para toda la eternidad....
