Night - dusk – dawn - daylight....

He who does not know the night does not know how to appreciate the light either.... To ascend from the depths to the light always first requires a walk through darkness and a perception of it as torment. The soul seeks to detach itself from that which causes it agony, especially when a ray of light has touched it and awakened a feeling of well-being in it which it would like to increase, and therefore eagerly pursues the radiation of light, thus slowly flees the darkness. This change from night to light can take little but also a great deal of time, yet it is always an act of free will, thus it is left to the human being himself whether and when the soul allows this change to take place. For the human being is placed in the world with duties and tasks which his purpose of earthly life is to fulfil. Despite eager earthly activity he can keep his soul in darkness, for what gives the soul light are spiritual, not worldly goods. Thus a person can be continuously active but still deny the soul the only thing it needs.... the spiritual food which puts it into a state of light. Then it remains dark in it, then there is only the world for it as the human being sees it with his physical eyes. But if the human being is concerned about the well-being of his soul and provides for it according to its desire, if he thus gives spiritual food to the spiritual in him, then the soul will emerge from the state of darkness, the night will clear, a gentle twilight will give way to the dawn, and the sun of the spirit will then rise radiantly, illuminating everything and nourishing it with its vitality.... Then it has risen from deepest darkness to the light of day, and light means bliss. Man is certainly stimulated by his soul, but he does not always comply with this stimulation; then one says that his soul yields to what the body wants. As long as it is dark in it, the will can also be wrongly directed, because it lacks knowledge, the light, the knowledge of what is beneficial for the soul. Yet again and again it is influenced by the spirit within to follow the light after all, and then the human being need only provide the soul with the opportunity to receive rays of light... through reading or spiritual conversations, which are always a gift of grace from above and can kindle a light in the soul which is of good will. Light alone is bliss, darkness is torment.... and anyone who is still in torment is also still in darkness, and every illumination of the spirit eases the torment, for it signifies recognition of the truth, and truth makes free....

밤 - 황혼 - 아침의 여명 - 낮의 빛.

밤을 모르는 사람은 또한 빛을 귀하게 여길 줄을 모른다. 깊은 곳에서 빛으로 올라 가기 위해 항상 그 전에 어두움을 통과하고 어두움을 고통스럽게 느끼는 일이 필요하다. 혼은 자신을 고통스럽게 하는 것으로부터 자유롭게 되려고 시도한다. 빛의 광선이 혼에게 임하여 혼의 내면이 행복하게 되고, 혼이 이 행복을 높이기를 원하여 빛의 비추임을 열심히 따른다면, 즉 서서히 어두움을 피한다면, 혼은 특별하게 자신을 고통스럽게 하는 것으로부터 자유롭게 되려고 시도한다. 밤에서 빛이 되는 이런 변화는 많은 시간이 소요될 수 있다. 그러나 이런 변화는 항상 자유의지의 역사이다. 즉 혼이 이런 변화가 자신에게 일어나게 할지, 언제 일어나게 할지는 사람 자신에게 맡겨진다. 왜냐면 사람은 성취시키는 일이 이 땅의 삶의 목적인 의무와 과제를 가지고 이 땅으로 보냄 받았기 때문이다.

사람이 이제 부지런한 이 땅의 활동에도 불구하고 자신의 혼은 어두움 속에 거하게 할 수 있다. 왜냐면 혼에게 빛을 주는 것은 세상 재물이 아니고 영적인 재물이기 때문이다. 그러므로 사람이 지속적으로 활동할 수 있지만 그러나 혼에게 필요한 유일한 한가지인 혼을 빛의 상태에 도달하게 하는 영적인 양식을 주지 않을 수 있다. 그러면 혼의 내면은 어두움 가운데 머물고 혼에게 단지 세상만이 있다. 이는 마치 사람이 육신의 눈으로 세상을 보는 것과 같다. 그러나 사람이 자신의 혼의 안녕을 염려하고 혼의 갈망에 따라 혼을 돌보면, 즉 그가 자신 안의 영적인 존재에게 영적인 것을 공급하면, 혼은 어두움의 상태를 벗어나고, 밤에 빛이 임하고, 부드러운 황혼이 새벽의 여명에 길을 비켜주고, 영의 태양이 빛을 발산하면서 떠올라 모든 것을 밝혀주고 자신의 생명력을 공급하게 된다. 그러면 혼은 가장 깊은 어두움에서 낮의 빛으로 올라온 것이다. 빛은 축복을 의미한다.

사람은 실제 자신의 혼에 의해 자극을 받는다. 그러나 그가 항상 이런 자극을 따르지는 않는다. 그러면 사람이 자신의 혼이 육체가 원하는 것에 굴복한다고 말한다. 혼의 내면이 어두운 동안에는 의지가 잘못된 방향으로 향할 수 있다. 왜냐면 혼에게 깨달음과 빛과 혼에게 유용한 지식이 부족하기 때문이다. 그러나 혼은 항상 또 다시 자신 안의 영에 의해 빛을 따르도록 영향을 받고, 그러면 사람이 단지 혼에게 독서나 영적인 대화를 통해 빛의 발산을 받을 기회를 주면 된다. 독서나 영적인 대화는 항상 위에서 주는 선물이고, 선한 의지를 가진 혼 안에 빛을 밝혀줄 수 있다. 빛이 유일하게 축복이고 어두움은 고통이다. 아직 고통 가운데 있는 사람의 내면에 아직 어두움이 있고, 모든 영을 밝게 해주는 일이 고통을 줄여준다. 왜냐면 영을 밝게 해주는 일이 진리를 깨닫는 일이고, 진리가 자유롭게 하기 때문이다.
