Battle between light and darkness....

A constant battle rages between light and darkness, and there is not a being on earth which does not feel this battle, for no being is free but oppressed by some force which it has to defend itself against. The human being feels this struggle the most because he becomes aware that he is in bondage, because what he strives for is something other than what he experiences. Only, as a human being, he can also kill this consciousness, or he can strive for the same thing, which grants him life.... Then he stands on the side of the power of darkness, for the power of light grants something other than what earthly life gives. Man must fight against the earthly because it belongs to the kingdom of darkness; man must fight for the kingdom of light, he must stand on the side of the power which is light itself. The struggle between light and darkness is therefore synonymous with the struggle of the spiritual from the depths to the height, it is synonymous with the overcoming of earthly matter on the part of man in order to attain spiritual good.... Furthermore, it is synonymous with the transformation of the being, which is initially full of urges and desires, into love with all its virtues. It means, as it were, the transformation of the spiritual being, which acknowledged the adversary of God as lord and now detaches itself from him in order to belong to God.... It therefore means that God Himself confronts His adversary in order to wrest from him the spiritual which the latter wants to appropriate illegally.... And the light will be victorious.... God will conquer His adversary, with His help He will assist all spiritual beings so that they will release themselves from his control, He and with Him all spiritual beings full of light will stand on the side of the helpless spiritual beings enslaved by God's adversary in order to redeem them.... The power of God and of light alone would suffice to render the adversary harmless and to lead the spiritual substance to the light, yet the adversary's free will stands in opposition to this, and therefore a battle must be waged, not in order to break the will but in order to change it.... But such a battle can only be won through love.... otherwise it would have ended long ago with success. Yet this battle between light and darkness is not decided by power but only by love, which must be so strong that it bends the will, that the will allows itself to be defeated by love. Love wrests from the adversary what he holds bound, love is the weapon of battle that the adversary is no match for.... Love is God Himself to Whom he must submit. Where love is weak God's adversary has the upper hand, darkness rages there and seeks to displace the light. Earthly life is a path through dark territory which has to be illuminated by the human being himself, who has to shape himself into love in order to chase away the darkness around him. He himself must lead the battle against darkness, against everything that is part of God's adversary as being connected to earth. He must let love flare up in him, and since this signifies the presence of God Himself, he will pass every battle against darkness victoriously.... The human being himself brings the battle of light against darkness to an end, yet only ever with the help of God and the beings of light, whom he makes his fellow combatants through love, who win every battle against the darkness....

빛과 어두움의 싸움.

빛과 어두움 사이의 끊임없이 싸움이 일어나고 있다. 이런 싸움을 느끼지 못하는 존재는 이 땅에 없다. 왜냐면 어떤 존재도 자유롭지 못하고, 존재들이 대항해야만 하는 어떤 종류의 힘에 의해 억압을 받기 때문이다. 인간이 이런 싸움을 가장 많이 느낀다. 왜냐면 인간은 자신이 자유롭지 못한 상태에 있다는 것을 의식하고, 자신이 추구하는 일이 그가 체험하는 일과 다른 것이기 때문이다. 그러나 단지 인간으로 그는 이런 의식을 없앨 수 있거나 또는 생명이 그에게 보장하는 같은 일을 추구할 수 있다. 그가 이런 의식을 없애면 그는 어두움의 권세 편에 선 것이다. 왜냐면 빛의 권세가 제공하는 것은 이 땅의 삶이 주는 것과 다른 어떤 것이기 때문이다.

인간은 세상적인 것에 맞서 싸워야만 한다. 왜냐면 세상적인 것이 어두움의 나라에 속하기 때문이다. 사람은 빛의 나라를 위해 싸워야만 하고, 빛 자체인 권세 편에 서야만 한다. 그러므로 빛과 어두움의 싸움은 영적인 존재를 깊은 곳에서 높은 곳으로 이끌기 위한 싸움이고, 영적인 재물을 얻기 위해 인간이 이 땅의 물질을 극복하는 일이다. 이 싸움은 또한 존재를 변화시키는 일이다. 즉 초기에는 본능과 욕망으로 가득 찬 존재를 모든 사랑의 덕성을 가진 사랑으로 변화시키는 일이다.

이 일은 어떤 의미에서 영적인 존재를 변화시키는 일이다. 즉 하나님의 대적자를 자신들의 주님으로 깨달은 영적인 존재들이 이제 하나님께 속하기 위해 대적자에게서 멀어지는 일이다. 그러므로 이일은 하나님 자신이 자신의 대적자가 불법적으로 얻기 원하는 영적인 존재를 빼앗기 위해 자신의 대적자와 대결하는 일이고, 빛이 승리하게 될 것이고, 하나님이 자신의 대적자를 정복하게 될 것이다. 하나님은 모든 존재에게 자신의 도움을 주어 존재가 대적자의 권세로부터 해방될 수 있게 하고, 하나님과 함께 하는 모든 빛으로 충만한 영적인 존재들이 하나님의 대적자에 의해 노예가 된 무기력한 영적인 존재를 구원하기 위해 그들 편에 선다.

단지 하나님의 권세와 빛의 권세가 대적자를 무기력하게 만들고 영적인 존재를 빛으로 인도하는 일에 충분할 것이다. 그러나 영적인 존재의 자유의지가 이 일에 저항한다. 그러므로 영적인 존재의 의지를 꺽기 위해서가 아니라, 영적인 존재의 의지를 바꾸기 위한 싸움을 해야만 한다. 이런 싸움은 단지 사랑을 통해서 이길 수 있다. 그렇지 않다면 이 싸움이 이미 오래 전에 성공적으로 끝났을 것이다. 그러나 빛과 어두움 사이의 이 싸움을 권세가 정하는 것이 아니라 사랑이 정한다. 즉 이 사랑이 아주 강해 의지가 순복하게 만들 정도가 되어 의지가 사랑에 굴복하는 사랑이 이 싸움을 정한다. 사랑은 대적자가 묶은 존재를 얻기 위해 싸우고, 사랑이 대적자가 싸움에서 대항할 수 없는 무기이고, 사랑이 그가 복종해야만 하는 하나님 자신이다.

사랑이 약한 곳에는 하나님의 대적자가 우세하고, 어두움이 격노하고 빛을 물리치려고 시도한다. 이 땅의 삶은 어두운 영역을 걷는 일이고, 자신 주변의 어두움을 물리치기 위해 자신을 사랑으로 만들어야만 하는 사람이 이 어두운 영역을 밝게 만들어야만 한다. 인간 자신이 어두움에 대항하여 싸워야만 하고, 하나님의 대적자의 일부인 이 땅에 묶여 있는 모든 것에 맞서 싸워야만 한다. 그는 자신 안에서 사랑이 타오르도록 해야만 하고, 이런 일은 하나님 자신의 임재를 의미하기 때문에 그는 어두움과의 모든 싸움에서 승리할 것이다. 인간 자신이 어두움에 맞서 빛의 싸움을 수행한다. 그러나 항상 단지 하나님과 빛의 존재의 도움을 받고, 그는 사랑을 통해 어두움과의 모든 싸움에서 승리하는 빛의 존재들을 전우로 만든다.
