Danger of flattening (cath.).... duty.... free will....

An unspeakable number of people are in danger of falling spiritually flat because they have adopted an erroneous view which makes serious reflection on the most important things seem unnecessary. What God demands of people is merely work on the soul and the fulfilment of the human being's duties for earthly life. But the work on the soul is the most important thing and can only be done from within, i.e. an attitude which corresponds to God's will must determine every thought, will and action, the human being, driven from within, must lead the way of life which pleases God. And this way of life is merely a life of unselfish loving activity towards his fellow human being. Then his soul will mature, then he will do the work on his soul which is the purpose and aim of his earthly life.... But how many people understand by a God-pleasing way of life an outwardly recognizable attitude towards a certain denomination....? How many people are of the erroneous opinion that God has prescribed certain outward appearances for them, and they make an effort to fulfil these conscientiously without, however, furthering the maturity of their soul. Now they do not live contrary to God per se but they do not progress either, they do not sin but do not gather spiritual goods either; they are not contrary to God but not God-connected either; they do nothing bad but nothing particularly good either, they are not cold but not hot either, and they therefore always remain on the same level, they do not ascend but their path is even and therefore does not lead to the aim which requires an ascent otherwise it will never be reached. It is not only a few people who are in this danger, but a large number belong to those who cannot be taught because they are firmly convinced that they walk the right path and have the right knowledge. But these people lack one thing: the awareness of their own weakness and the resulting need to lean on the one to Whom they belong.... This awareness would make them request advice and help which God will not deny them but which also consists of guiding them into the right realization. People who do not correctly recognize divine will must first be correctly instructed and thus realize their ignorance and try to remedy it. This is a deeply humble admission of one's imperfection, which, however, is seldom made. Instead of humility, self-conceit is far more common, and this does not accept any teachings, but is convinced of the truth and the infallibility of one's own thinking. So the truth does not find its way in, because man thinks he is already in possession of the truth, which, however, would first have to be presented to him.

(12.10.1948) And thus countless people do not focus their attention on the transformation of their nature as it should be, instead they are content with adhering to laws which appear to be the most important to them because they are not properly instructed by those who call themselves My representatives on earth. However, it is only important how the individual person leads his daily life with regard to the spiritual life of the soul, i.e. how his conduct is in spiritual terms, whether it corresponds to God's will, i.e. whether it represents a fulfilment of His commandments of love. The commandment of love, however, predominantly extends to dealings with fellow human beings, with the neighbour, to whom the same measure of love should be given if the human being wants to fulfil the divine commandments. Activities which have nothing to do with neighbourly love, which in case of omission mean no harm to the fellow human being, are therefore also completely meaningless for the increase of soul maturity, they then fall into the category of worldly activities, which therefore serve some worldly purpose and therefore as purely worldly service cannot be evaluated for the degree of soul maturity. Laws which have been added to the fundamental law of love for God and neighbour are likely to make this fundamental law appear less important and therefore a danger to the human soul, so that precisely the commandments of love cannot be preached insistently enough, on the fulfilment of which the soul's salvation and thus its whole life in eternity depends. And again and again it has to be pointed out to people that they use their will wrongly if they use it to carry out humanly decreed commandments and believe that they have now fulfilled their duty, whereas they do not work on the transformation of their nature and therefore remain at the stage of their spiritual development, thus they make no progress during their earthly life. Only loving activity is required, for this fulfils the commandment of love which is the only one God has given to people so that they will become blissfully happy....

Trivialidad espiritual

Indiciblemente muchos hombres están en peligro de que se pierdan en trivialidades en el aspecto espiritual, porque se han apropiado de un parecer que es erróneo y hace que les parezca inncesaria una reflexión seria sobre lo más importante. Lo que Dios exige de los hombres, es, sencillamente, el trabajo en sus almas, y el cumplimiento de las obligaciones para la vida terrenal, en la que ha sido puesto el hombre. Mas lo más importante es el trabajo en el alma y sólo puede ser hecho del interior, es decir, tiene que ser una actitud que corresponde a la Voluntad de Dios, determinante en todo pensar, querer y obrar, el hombre tiene que estar impulsado de dentro en llevar una conducta que encuentre el agrado de Dios.

Y esa conducta es exclusivamente una vida de amor desinteresado, una vida activa de amor hacia los hombres. Entonces su alma madurará, entonces presta trabajo a su alma, que es el objetivo y la meta de su vida en la tierra. Pero cuantisimos hombres son del parecer erróneo, que una conducta agradable a Dios, es la orientación a una religión determinada reconocible por fuera. Cuantos hombres son del erróneo parecer que Dios les ha hecho prescriciones de ciertas formalidades, y ellos se esfuerzan en cumplirlas escrupulosamente, sin fomentar, no obstante, la madurez de su alma por medio de ellas.

Pues, aunque no viven adversos a Dios, pero tampoco avanzan hacia delante; no pecan, pero tampoco recaudan ningún bien espiritual, no son insubordinados a Dios, pero tampoco unidos a Dios; no hacen nada malo, pero tampoco nada bueno en particular; no son frios, pero tampoco calientes y permanecen por eso siempre parados en el mismo nivel, no suben hacia arriba, sino su camino es llano y por eso no lleva a la meta, la cual requiere un ascenso, de lo contrario jamás se alcanza.

No son pocos los hombres sólo, los que se encuentran en este peligro, sino que una gran cifra pertenece a ellos, a los que por eso no es posible enseñar, porque están firmemente convencidos de que caminan por el buen camino y de tener el verdadero conocimiento. Mas a estos hombres les falta una cosa: La conciencia de la propia debilidad personal y la necesidad de apoyo, que de ahí resulta, en el Uno, a quien pertenecen. Esa conciencia los dejaría que suplicaran ayuda y consejo, que Dios no se las negaría, pero la que consiste también, en que sean dirigidos en el justo saber.

Los hombres que no conocen bien la Voluntad divina, tienen, en primer lugar, que estar bien instruídos y por eso reconocer su ignorancia y tratar de eliminarla. Eso es una confesión profundamente humilde de su imperfección, la que, sin embargo, raramente es hecha. En lugar de humildad, es mucho más una autopresuntuosidad la que se encuentra, y ésta no acepta ninguna instrucción, sino que está convencida de la Verdad y de la infalibilidad de sus propios pensamientos. Por lo que la Verdad no encuentra acceso, porque el hombre se cree erroneamente, que ya está en la Verdad, la que sin embargo tendría que serle sometida a consideración.

Y así innumerables hombres no fijan la atención en la transformación de su ser, como debiera ser, sino que se contentan con observar reglamentos que a ellos les parecen como lo más importante, porque no fueron bien instruídos por aquellos que se llaman Mis rapresentantes en la tierra.

Pero importante es tan sólo, cómo el hombre vive su vida individual diariamente con respecto a la vida espiritual del alma, cómo es por tanto su comportamiento en el aspecto espiritual, si él es conforme a la Voluntad de Dios, es decir un cumplimiento que representa sus Preceptos de Amor. El Precepto del Amor se extiende predominantemente en el trato con los semejantes, a los que se les debe dirigir la misma medida en amor, si quiere observar el hombre los preceptos divinos. Ejecuciones que nada tienen que ver con el amor al projimo, que por consiguiente en caso de omisión no significa ningún daño para el prójimo, son por lo tanto también insignificantes por completo para el aumento de la madurez del alma, pertenecen entonces en la clasificación de ejecuciones mundanas, las que por eso pertenecen a alguna finalidad mundana y que no pueden ser avalorados un grado de la madurez del alma, por ser un servicio puramente mundanal.

Los preceptos que fueron añadidos al precepto fundamental del amor a Dios y al prójimo, son apropiados a que hagan aparecer menos importante este Precepto fundalmental divino y por eso un peligro para el alma humana, de tal modo, que no se puede predicar encarecidamente bastante, precisamente el mandamiento del amor, de cuyo cumplimento depende la salvación del alma y por tanto la vida entera en la eternidad. Y a los hombres se les tiene que señalar e indicar cada vez de nuevo que utilizan su voluntad al revés, si ellos la emplean para la ejecución de preceptos promulgados por hombres, y creen además con ello, de haber observado su deber mientras que en la transformación de su ser ningún trabajo llevaron a cabo y por tanto se han parado en el nivel de su evolución espiritual, es decir que durante su vida terrenal no han obtenido ningún avance. Sólo se pide la actuación en el amor, pues por medio de ella se cumple el precepto del amor, el cual Dios ha dado a los hombres como único precepto, para que el hombre sea bienaventurado.
