Self-love in the afterlife prolongs the state of suffering.... willingness to help....

In the spiritual kingdom the activity of love has the same effect as on earth.... in an increased supply of strength, thus also in spiritual progress, for all activity of love paves the path to God, and closeness to God is the ultimate goal of all beings. Hence love is likewise preached in the spiritual kingdom, that is, the beings of light draw the unredeemed souls' attention to the fact that only love will bring them liberation, and they also provide them with every opportunity to develop themselves in love. No soul can develop itself upwards other than on the path of love, yet this is far more difficult in the spiritual kingdom than on earth as long as the soul is still ignorant, thus not yet enlightened. For then it only touches its own fate, it does not see the hardship of other souls because it is still very much in self-love, which is to blame for its ignorant state. And this self-love prevents it from selfless loving activity, for then the soul regards itself as the center, it feels unhappy, and unjustly so, for its self-love conceals its own faults, whereas it recognizes all faults of other souls and feels elevated above them. And so it cannot feel any love for its suffering environment. It is hard and unfeeling and takes no interest in the other souls, and as long as it does so it will also feel its hardship bitterly, which will only diminish if love is kindled in it and stimulates it into loving activity. And it often takes an infinitely long time until the soul softens and is willing to help of its own accord. And yet it cannot be stimulated into loving activity other than through instruction from the beings of light, for it has to decide of its own free will to be helpful, it has to put aside its selfish love, disregard its own hardship and try to alleviate the suffering of fellow-suffering souls, then its hitherto powerless state will change, the soul will feel the influx of strength and become increasingly more capable of helping and working with love. Its state will now become increasingly freer and it will realize that it is becoming increasingly lighter around it, it will be able to see things which make it happy, its knowledge will increase and its will to reach God will become ever stronger.... And thus her activity of love also becomes eager, for she recognizes the power and strength of love, she recognizes her goal and strives towards it.... she seeks to come close to God and to redeem herself through love....

Eigenliebe im Jenseits verlängert den Leidenszustand.... Hilfswilligkeit....

Im geistigen Reich wirkt sich die Liebetätigkeit genau so aus wie auf Erden.... in vermehrter Kraftzufuhr, also auch geistigem Fortschritt, denn jegliche Liebetätigkeit ebnet den Weg zu Gott, und Gottnähe ist letztes Ziel alles Wesenhaften. Im geistigen Reich wird daher die Liebe gleichfalls gepredigt, d.h., die Lichtwesen machen die unerlösten Seelen darauf aufmerksam, daß nur die Liebe ihnen Befreiung bringt, und sie bringen ihnen auch alle Gelegenheiten nahe, um sich in der Liebe entfalten zu können. Anders als auf dem Wege der Liebe kann keine Seele sich zur Höhe entwickeln, doch es ist dies im geistigen Reich um vieles schwerer als auf Erden, solange die Seele noch unwissend ist, also noch nicht in der Erkenntnis steht. Denn dann berührt sie nur ihr eigenes Los, sie sieht nicht die Not anderer Seelen, weil sie noch sehr in der Eigenliebe steht, die ihren unwissenden Zustand verschuldet hat. Und diese Eigenliebe hindert sie an uneigennütziger Liebetätigkeit, denn es betrachtet die Seele dann sich selbst als Mittelpunkt, sie fühlt sich unglücklich, und zwar ungerechterweise, denn ihre Eigenliebe verschleiert ihre eigenen Fehler, wohingegen sie alle Fehler der anderen Seelen erkennt und sich über diese erhaben fühlt. Und also kann sie keine Liebe empfinden für ihre leidende Umwelt. Sie ist hart und gefühllos und nimmt keinen Anteil an den anderen Seelen, und so lange wird sie auch ihre Not bitter empfinden, die sich nur verringert, so in ihr die Liebe entflammt und sie zur Liebetätigkeit anregt. Und es vergeht oft endlos lange Zeit, bis die Seele weich wird und aus eigenem Antrieb hilfswillig ist. Und doch kann sie nicht anders als durch Belehrung von seiten der Lichtwesen zur Liebetätigkeit angeregt werden, denn sie muß in völlig freiem Willen sich zur Hilfsbereitschaft entschließen, sie muß ihre Ichliebe zurückstellen, ihre eigene Not außer acht lassen und die Not der mitleidenden Seelen zu lindern versuchen, dann wird ihr bis dahin kraftloser Zustand eine Änderung erfahren, die Seele wird die Kraftzufuhr spüren und immer fähiger werden, zu helfen und zu wirken in Liebe. Ihr Zustand wird nun immer freier, und sie erkennt nun, daß es immer lichter wird um sie, sie vermag Dinge zu sehen, die sie beglücken, ihr Wissen wird größer und ihr Wille, zu Gott zu gelangen, immer stärker.... Und also wird auch ihr Liebeswirken ein eifriges, denn sie erkennt die Macht und Kraft der Liebe, sie erkennt ihr Ziel und strebt diesem entgegen.... sie sucht in Gottnähe zu gelangen und sich durch die Liebe zu erlösen....
