Law and justice.... courageous advocacy and commitment....

Absolute determination is required of those who stand up for law and justice. They should openly confess their innermost feelings and not be afraid of the judgement of the world; they should abandon all timidity when it comes to awakening a sense of justice in their fellow human beings. Mankind is afraid to speak the truth openly and usually agrees with the judgement of those who are powerful and respected. It distances itself from its own judgement as soon as it deviates from that of the former. And this is an admission of weakness, a lack of self-confidence and a sign of discouragement. But God needs fighters who face their opponent without hesitation to fight.... who think justly themselves and therefore also presuppose a sense of justice in their fellow human beings so that they can speak freely and openly.... For only through such can He Himself speak to people, otherwise man would have to speak against his feelings if he were to agree with the opinions of others who deviate from righteous thinking. God also demands full commitment to His teaching from man, and this teaching places love as the first commandment as the condition for a right way of life. But where this commandment is disregarded, justice and righteousness cannot be practiced, because this is also based on the love of one's fellow human beings. He who lacks love seeks only his own advantage and excludes righteous behaviour and thinking. And his behaviour must be denounced in order to educate him to be just. Consequently, his faults and weaknesses must be fearlessly held up to him so that he may learn to recognize himself and make an effort to live a righteous life. But if his injustice is tolerated without objection or even approved of, he will be strengthened in his wrong view and can never come to the right realization. If, however, a person wants to serve God, he places every word, every action and every thought at His disposal and asks for God's guidance and strength, and then he will be able to speak uninhibitedly and fearlessly stand up for what he recognizes in his heart as truth, as righteous before God.... he will try to influence his fellow human being to agree with his opinion, he will educate him to clear judgement and instil in him a sense of right and justice so that he, too, can stand up for it wherever it is appropriate....

정의와 공의. 용감하게 대변하며 나서는 일.

정의와 공의를 대변하는 사람들에게 절대적인 결단이 필요하다. 그들의 가장 깊은 내면의 느낌을 공개적으로 고백해야 하고, 세상의 판단을 두려워하지 말고, 이웃 사람 안에 공의를 일깨우는 일을 주저하지 말아야 한다. 인류는 공개적으로 진리를 말하는 것을 꺼리고, 대부분 권세와 명성을 가진 사람들의 판단을 따른다. 그들은 자신의 판단이 앞서 말한 사람들의 판단과 일치하지 않으면, 자신의 판단을 포기한다. 이런 일은 자신의 약점의 인정하는 일이고, 자신감의 부족과 비겁함의 증거이다.

그러나 하나님은 주저함이 없이 적과 맞서 싸우는 전사가 필요하고, 스스로 공의롭게 생각하고, 또한 이웃 사람의 공의에 대한 감각을 인정하고, 이로써 자유롭고 공개적으로 말하는 사람이 필요하다. 왜냐면 단지 그런 사람을 통해서만 하나님 자신이 사람들에게 말할 수 있기 때문이다. 그렇지 않고 사람이 공의로운 생각을 벗어난 이웃 사람들의 의견에 동의한다면, 그 사람은 자신의 감정과는 반대로 말해야만 한다. 하나님은 또한 사람들에게 자신의 가르침에 온전하게 헌신할 것을 요구하고, 이 가르침은 올바른 삶의 방식을 위한 첫 번째 계명으로 사랑을 가르친다. 그러나 이 계명을 무시하면, 그곳에는 정의와 공의가 실행될 수 없다. 왜냐하면 이런 일은 다시 이웃 사람의 사랑을 기초로 하기 때문이다.

사랑이 부족한 사람들은 단지 자신의 이익만을 찾고, 공의로운 행동과 생각을 하지 않는다. 그를 정의로운 존재가 되도록 양육하기 위해 그의 행동 방식을 지적해줘야만 한다. 그러므로 두려움 없이 그의 결점과 약점을 알려줘야만 한다. 이로써 그가 자신을 깨닫고, 공의로운 삶을 사는 일에 열심을 내게 해야 한다. 그러나 그의 불의에 저항을 하지 않고 참거나, 심지어 좋다고 한다면, 그의 잘못된 견해가 강하게 될 것이고, 절대로 올바른 깨달음에 도달할 수 없다.

그러나 사람이 하나님을 섬기기를 원한다면, 그는 모든 말과 행동과 생각을 하나님께 맡기고, 하나님의 지도와 힘을 구하면, 그는 심장 속에 있는 것을 주저하지 않고 말할 수 있고, 두려움 없이 그가 심장 안에서 진리로, 하나님 앞에 공의한 것으로 깨달은 것을 위해 나서게 될 것이다. 그는 이웃 사람에게 영향을 미쳐, 자신의 관점을 갖게 하려고 시도할 것이다. 그는 그를 양육하여 선명한 판단을 하게 하고, 그가 정의롭고, 공의로운 생각을 갖게 한다. 이로써 그가 깨달은 것을 필요한 곳에서 지지할 수 있게 한다.
