Voluntary kind-hearted service ....

Continuous higher development is guaranteed as long as the being’s will is still bound; thus, as long as it still travels the path through the works of creation, because it is of service, albeit it is effectively forced into this helpful activity. Nevertheless, it is willing to be of service; otherwise it would not have been assigned its function. The willingness to serve is the first condition for constantly higher development. In the human stage, however, it is left up to the being again as to whether or not it is lovingly active. His soul has reached a state of maturity that the greatest shackle, the bound will, can be replaced by free will, but then he will no longer be forced into a serving activity but must accomplish it of his own free will, which will subsequently result in the soul’s higher development again. And therefore this stage also holds a certain danger for the human being, that is, for his soul, if it fails, if it does not use its free will for kind- hearted activity, on account of which God has arranged people’s life on earth such that they will need each other, in order to provide them with the opportunity to be of service to each other. This is truly not arbitrarily arranged, and the various living conditions serve the wise purpose of making it easier for a person to be of service. Admittedly, circumstances will force him to be helpful, but he can nevertheless refuse or accomplish the work reluctantly which, however, will be judged by God accordingly and will hamper the soul’s maturing. For only kind-hearted service will result in the soul’s degree of maturity and release it from its bound state. To all intents and purposes, human life is also a life of compulsion which takes place within the framework of natural laws, so that the human being very frequently questions his freedom of will. And yet the human being has much freedom, because he can think, act and want as he likes, and thus he can also infringe against the divine order if he has no control over his instincts and abandons himself to dark forces. The inner battle between good and evil is left utterly up to himself, and this will be more or less difficult for him depending on whether he is lovingly active, thus, whether he helps with love. Only his voluntary kind-hearted services will actually make him aware of his freedom of will, for only then will he recognise that he is by no means forced into doing it, that he is just as entitled to the same freedom of will if he wants to do the opposite. All lack of love increases the will to dominate, whereas every kind-hearted action increases his inner instinct to serve. And if this helpful activity is accomplished voluntarily and with love it will make a person happy, whereas serving under duress, that is, against his will, will exasperate him and arouse his inner objections. In that case the human being is controlled by the evil force which wants to prevent him from redeeming himself. This is why earthly life is a responsible one, because so many opportunities exist to be of kind-hearted service which enables the soul to redeem itself and these opportunities are not used accordingly. And the less people recognise and fulfil their purpose of life the more these opportunities will increase .... in order to awaken their sense of love in view of their fellow human beings’ immense adversity and to encourage their helpful activity.

Servir dans l'amour et dans la libre volonté

Un développement continu vers le Haut est garanti tant que la substance animique est encore avec la volonté liée, donc tant qu’elle parcourt le chemin à travers les Œuvres de la Création, parce qu'elle sert, même si d’une certaine manière elle est contrainte à l'activité servante. Néanmoins elle est disposée à servir, car autrement il ne lui aurait pas été assigné son activité. La disponibilité de servir est la première condition pour un développement constant vers le Haut. Dans le stade d’homme maintenant il est de nouveau laissé la libre volonté à la substance animique pour devenir active affectueusement ou bien non. Son âme a atteint un état de maturité tel que la plus lourde chaîne, la volonté liée, peut être remplacée par la libre volonté, mais avec cela il n'est plus forcé à une activité servante, mais il doit l'exécuter par sa propre libre volonté, uniquement cela a pour conséquence de nouveau le développement de l'âme vers le Haut. Et ainsi ce stade est aussi un certain danger pour l'homme, c'est-à-dire pour son âme, lorsqu’il échoue, c'est-à-dire lorsqu’il n'utilise pas sa libre volonté pour une activité affectueuse. Et donc Dieu a formé toute la vie terrestre des hommes de sorte qu’ils aient besoin l’un de l’autre pour leur donner l'occasion de servir l'autre. Cela n'est pas prévu d’une manière arbitraire et les différentes conditions de vie ont leur sage but ; elles doivent rendre facile aux hommes de servir. À travers les circonstances l’homme sera certes forcé de servir, mais il peut de toute façon aussi s’y opposer ou bien accomplir l'activité à contrecœur, chose qui cependant sera jugée par Dieu, c'est-à-dire que cela entravera le mûrissement de l'âme. Parce que seulement servir dans l'amour procure à l'âme le degré de maturité et la libération définitive de l'être lié. La vie humaine est apparemment une vie contrainte qui se déroule dans le cadre des lois de la nature, de sorte que l'homme doute souvent de la liberté de sa volonté. Mais malgré cela l'homme possède beaucoup de liberté, parce que ses pensées, ses actes et sa volonté sont libres et ainsi il peut aussi transgresser l'Ordre divin, si son instinct n’est pas contrôlé et se laisse aller au pouvoir obscur. La lutte intérieure contre le bien et le mal lui est laissée libre sans restriction et celle-ci sera pour lui plus facile ou plus difficile, selon comment il s'active dans l'amour, donc s’il aide avec amour. Seulement le service librement consenti dans l’amour témoigne de la liberté de sa volonté, parce que seulement alors on peut reconnaitre qu’il n’y est en rien forcé, car il a la même liberté de volonté pour faire l’opposé. Chaque désamour renforce la volonté pour dominer, alors que chaque action dans l'amour augmente en lui la poussée à servir. Et ce service rend heureux lorsqu’il est exécuté dans la libre volonté et dans l'amour, tandis que servir dans la contrainte, c'est-à-dire contre sa volonté, devient pour l'homme une peine et il s’y rebelle intérieurement. Alors l'homme est dominé par le pouvoir malin qui veut entraver sa libération. Et donc la vie terrestre a une responsabilité, parce qu'il y a beaucoup de possibilités de s'activer dans l'amour servant, de sorte que l'âme peut se libérer si ces possibilités sont utilisées en conséquence. Et celles-ci augmenteront, sauf si les hommes reconnaissent et s'acquittent du but de leur existence pour réveiller en eux le sentiment de l'amour au vu de la grande misère du prochain et cela doit les pousser maintenant à une activité servante.
