Inner rebellion against God.... secret resistance....

The inability to judge spiritual results is again a consequence of inner rebellion against God.... A person need not be a public denier of God, and yet his inner feelings can be directed against everything that reminds him to believe in Him. For if his soul is still at the furthest distance from God it still harbours secret resistance, even though it entered embodiment on earth with the will to free itself from every form. This soul is still too much controlled by the demon, by its greatest enemy, who wants to win the being back for his kingdom. He rebels against the soul, as it were, against everything divine, he holds the dazzling work of earthly life against it, and he tries to present the earthly path to it as the last stage of existence. And now the soul wants to utilize everything for earthly enjoyment. But knowledge of God can only be gained by putting earthly enjoyment to one side. Man must despise the latter, and he must not become a slave to that which is part of God's counter-power. He must be able to detach himself from everything he holds dear and convey this to his fellow human being in willingness, if the latter lacks it; only then will the influence of evil diminish and thus also the aversion to the divine. An open denier of God can be confronted even more easily by speaking openly about something he rejects. However, it is difficult to give instruction to those who do not openly show their rejection, but carry it all the more stubbornly in their hearts, for they will only rarely respond to it, will neither affirm nor deny it, they will also, being under bad influence, think little about it. And for the sake of such people God expresses Himself clearly, albeit in a way that is not very favourable to them. A natural event often gives even worldly-minded people cause for reflection. They then sometimes begin to visualize the end result of their way of life and the question arises in them: What is everything for?.... Without purpose there is nothing.... What is the purpose of life on earth?.... And then a change of thinking can set in, because at the same time the inclination towards earthly good has become weaker through the realization of the transience of that which the work of destruction has brought to them. For God's love seeks to win all His living creations for Himself and His kingdom, and anyone who does not recognize God's love in a carefree earthly existence has to experience hardship and sorrow in order to come to the realization of what he has neglected.... He must transform himself and his thinking, he must become love in order to be able to recognize the highest love....

Rebelião interna contra Deus.... Resistência secreta....

A incapacidade de julgar resultados espirituais é novamente uma consequência da rebelião interior contra Deus.... Uma pessoa não precisa, de forma alguma, ser um denier público de Deus e, no entanto, os seus sentimentos interiores podem ser dirigidos contra tudo o que a lembra de acreditar n'Ele. Pois se a sua alma ainda está longe de Deus, ela ainda carrega dentro de si a resistência secreta, embora tenha entrado na Terra com a vontade de se libertar de toda forma. Esta alma é ainda demasiado dominada pelo demónio, pelo seu maior inimigo, que quer reconquistar o ser para o seu reino. Ele rejeita a alma contra tudo o que é divino, por assim dizer, ele se opõe ao trabalho deslumbrante da vida terrena e tenta apresentar o caminho terreno para ela como a última etapa da existência. E agora a alma quer usar tudo para o prazer terreno. Mas o conhecimento de Deus só pode ser obtido colocando o prazer terreno em segundo plano. O homem deve desprezar este último, e não deve tornar-se escravo daquilo que faz parte do contra-poder de Deus. Ele deve ser capaz de desligar-se de tudo o que ama e transmiti-lo ao seu semelhante em boa vontade, se lhe faltar; só então a influência do mal diminuirá e assim também a aversão ao divino. Um negador aberto de Deus pode ser combatido ainda mais facilmente falando abertamente sobre algo que ele rejeita. Mas para aqueles que não mostram abertamente sua rejeição, mas a carregam ainda mais teimosamente em seus corações, é difícil dar instrução, pois só raramente responderão a ela, não a afirmarão nem negarão, e também, estando sob má influência, pouco pensarão sobre ela. E em nome de tais pessoas Deus se expressa audivelmente, mesmo que de uma forma que não lhes agrada. Um evento natural muitas vezes dá até mesmo às pessoas de mentalidade mundana motivo para reflexão. Às vezes começam a pensar no resultado final da sua vida, e surge a questão: Para que serve tudo? .... Sem propósito não há nada.... Qual é o propósito da vida na Terra?.... E então uma mudança de pensamento pode se instalar, porque ao mesmo tempo a inclinação para o bem terreno tornou-se mais fraca, devido à realização da transitoriedade do que a obra de destruição lhes trouxe. Pois o amor de Deus procura ganhar todas as Suas criações vivas para Si e para o Seu reino, e quem não reconhece o amor de Deus numa existência terrena despreocupada tem de experimentar dificuldades e preocupações para vir a reconhecer através delas o que Ele negligenciou.... Ele tem de se transformar a si próprio e ao seu pensamento, tem de se tornar amor para ser capaz de reconhecer o amor mais elevado....
