The spirit of man sinks into immense depths, whose distance from God becomes so evident. He has taken earthly existence upon himself in order to conclude an endless change through the form and is regressive, for he lacks the will to find and regocnize God. And his will will always deny everything that allows God to be regocnized and affirmed. Thus his walk on earth is only a transition to a new form of the banished state, to lifelessness in the beyond, which is likewise used by all forces wanting to serve God to reshape his thinking in order to prevent the unspeakably agonizing walk through all matter.... the renewed path of education.... and to lead the soul to its right destiny. However, this endeavour will be far more difficult in the afterlife, as the lightless state entails a hardening of one's own will and any attempt can fail because of this will. Only a person's prayer on earth can save him from the final downfall, as he will noticeably realize this and it can be the first and only reason to change his mind. On earth a power dwells in his soul, as it were, which forces him to rebel against everything divine and which has its origin in the kingdom of darkness. It strengthens him in the feeling of his own arrogance, it always lets his thoughts take that direction which again leads to God-rejecting results; it takes him so captive that all counter-force remains ineffective because the own will resists this power and submits to this power. Thus, the objection as to why God created man in this particular way and not otherwise.... Man has the right to determine himself and his thinking, and everyone is offered the opportunity to switch to a different way of thinking. However, one's own will must be active.... However, if this is stronger and therefore not prepared to subject the previous thinking to an examination, then every endeavour of good spiritual strength is unsuccessful. Such a person's concept of God is, as it were, completely eliminated from his thinking, for he is not comfortable recognizing a power to which he would have to submit himself. In his imagination, creation is the result of a power that also arbitrarily brought man into being as the product of ever-constant natural forces, but does not grant these living beings any deeper purpose. He therefore sees the time on earth as being, so to speak, without a plan, without any purpose in the worldly sense, but dependent on the intelligence of every human being, i.e. to be mastered arbitrarily according to ability. And this is why such a person's every endeavour will only be for worldly improvements; he tries to promote a certain kind of well-being and calls this an activity of love, yet this love only applies to bodily needs and is always guided by the motive of increasing his own well-being. For everything that makes the course through earthly life more bearable only appears valuable to him, and again he believes that man himself can bring about the improvement of earthly existence through the right attitude towards it. However, the extent to which the wrong spiritual attitude is the reason for a more difficult earthly life is beyond his knowledge, i.e., he does not want to understand it, since this concession would also require a different way of life from him, which again does not correspond to his desire for the world and his thinking. And such people remain far behind in their spiritual development, for all trials, all suffering and all other help sent to them will not result in a change of wrong thinking as long as the urge for truth does not become powerful in him and the transience of everything earthly becomes conscious to him.... Only then would it be possible for the will to become more compliant and less hostile. This is why fighting and praying for such souls should not cease, for as long as the human being dwells on earth he can be granted help and it can be received and utilized, whereas in the beyond he lacks all strength to do so and only the human being's prayer can provide him with relief if his will does not demand upwards....

TranslatorU golemi ponor propada duša čovjeka čija udaljenost od Boga je toliko očigledna. On je na sebe uzeo zemaljsko postojanje kako bi okončao beskrajno dug prolaz kroz formu, a nazaduje, jer nedostaje mu jedna stvar, a to je Boga naći i željeti Ga spoznati. I njegova volja neprestano će nijekati sve što bi Boga dalo prepoznati i potvrditi. Tako je njegov život na Zemlji samo prijelaz u novi oblik izopćenog stanja, u beživotnost u onostranome, koja isto tako od strane sila koje žele Bogu služiti biva korištena kako bi mu transformirala razmišljanje, kako bi neizrecivo mučan prolazak kroz svu materiju .... ponovni odgojni put .... spriječile, i dušu privele njezinoj pravoj sudbini.
No, to nastojanje daleko je teže u onostranome, pošto svjetla lišeno stanje sa sobom povlači otvrdnuće vlastite volje i svaki pokušaj zbog te volje može propasti. Jedino molitva čovjeka na Zemlji može ga spasiti od krajnje propasti, jer mu ona osjetno dolazi do svijesti i može mu biti prvi i jedini povod za preobraćenje. Na Zemlji mu je u duši u neku ruku nastanjena jedna sila koja ga prisiljava protiviti se svemu Božanskome, a koja svoje izvorište ima u području tame. Ona ga pojačava u osjećaju vlastite oholosti, ona čini da njegove misli neprestano opet idu u onom pravcu koji vodi do riješenja koja ne-prihvaćaju Boga; ona ga zarobljava tako da svaka protusila ostaje bezuspješna, jer je vlastita volja u otporu protiv te sile i podaje se onoj drugoj sili.
Time se opet nameće primjedba zašto je Bog ljude stvorio baš tako a ne drugačije .... Čovjek nad sobom i svojim razmišljanjem ima pravo odluke, i svakome se pruža prilika da promijeni način razmišljanja. No pri tome vlastita volja mora biti aktivna .... u slučaju da je ona jača i da dakle nije spremna preispitati dotadašnje razmišljanje, svako nastojanje dobrih duhovnih sila bezuspješno je. Pojam Boga kod takvog jednog čovjeka u neku ruku je isključen iz njegovog razmišljanja, pošto mu se ne sviđa priznati Silu Kojoj bi se morao podrediti.
U njegovoj predstavi svijet je rezultat sile koja je i čovjeka stvorila slučajno kao proizvod uvijek konstantnih prirodnih sila, no tom živom biću on ne priznaje nikakav dublji smisao. Po tome on vrijeme na Zemlji na određeni način doživljava neplanski, bez ikakvog određenja u svjetovnom smislu, no koje se ovisno o inteligenciji svakog pojedinog čovjeka već s obzirom na sposobnosti dakle samovoljno svladava. I stoga svako nastojanje takvog čovjeka teži samo svjetovnom napretku; on teži unaprijediti udobnost življenja i naziva to djelovanjem u ljubavi, no ta ljubav služi jedino tjelesnim potrebama, i to jedino praćena motivom poboljšanja zdravlja.
Jer sve ono što prolaz kroz zemaljski život čini podnošljivijim čini mu se dragocjeno, s druge strane vjeruje da sam čovjek može prouzročiti poboljšanje zemaljskog postojanja putem ispravog stava prema istome. No koliko je pogrešni duhovni stav uzročnikom otežanog zemaljskog života, s tim nije upoznat, što znači, on to ne želi razumjeti, jer bi priznavanje toga od njega zahtijevalo drugi način života, koji opet nije u skladu sa njegovom potrebom za svijetom i njegovim načinom razmišljanja.
A takvi ljudi u svome duševnom razvoju daleko zaostaju, jer svi ispiti, sva patnja i sva ostala inače im upućena pomoć ne prozivode preokret pogrešnog načina razmišljanja, sve dok težnja za Istinom u njemu ne postane snažna i dok mu do svijesti ne dopre prolaznost svega zemaljskoga .... Tek tada bi bilo moguće da i volja postane podatnija i da se ponaša manje odbojno. Stoga borba i molitve za takve duše ne bi trebale prestajati, jer sve dok čovjek boravi na Zemlji, pomoć mu može biti pružena, i na kraju prihvaćena, dok mu u onostranome za to nedostaje sva snaga i samo mu molitva čovjeka može olakšati, ako mu volja ne stremi prema gore.
