Work of the spirit.... put to the test....

People's spiritual state is still so confused and their thinking is far removed from true realization. And therefore it is very difficult to give them information about the working of the spirit in the human being, since they don't want to regocnize anything other than what visibly and tangibly appears to them. They completely exclude something from their thoughts, so to speak, which, however, only results in the right solution, and thus it is impossible to explain to them the working of that which, according to their concept, does not exist at all. And it is equally impossible to convince people of the existence of the spirit, since again nothing external points to it, but everything spiritual is only spiritually perceptible or noticeable. The realist demands proof and wants everything to be justified purely factually. A factual justification.... however, proof of the existence of the divine spirit in man would only be possible in such a way that a test on the example would be made.... that man would declare himself ready to fulfil all preconditions for the awakening of the divine spirit.... then he would experience the credibility of this in himself.... Instead, the person who believes to be all too profound rejects the experience of the other and remains spiritually blind. An inner life of the soul is alien to him, external life completely occupies him and his thinking, and his spirit slumbers in the deepest envelope and cannot free itself from it. And almost nothing can bring about a change in such thinking. He who cultivates spiritual thinking is ridiculed, and one is so foolish as to regard one's own wrong thinking as the only right one, and that one mocks and criticizes the world. Even where the endeavour is to lead people to God the same blind state of mind can be found, for even their thinking is too earthly, although the will is good.... yet they lack the depth of faith, for this has to be developed in each person himself and cannot be taught from person to person in a scholastic way.... 영의 역사. 예를 들어 실험해보는 일.

사람들의 영의 상태는 아직 혼란스럽고, 생각은 올바른 깨달음에서 멀리 떨어져 있다. 그러므로 사람 안의 영의 활동에 대해 설명해주는 일은 매우 어렵다. 왜냐하면 그들은 눈에 보이고 가시적으로 느낄 수 있게 나타나는 것 외에는 어떤 것도 인정하기를 원하지 않기 때문이다. 그들은 생각에서 무언가를 완전히 제거한다. 그러나 무언 가가 비로소 올바른 해결책을 제공하고, 그러므로 그들의 개념으로는 전혀 존재하지 않는 것의 역사를 설명할 수 없다.

사람들에게 영이 존재한다는 것을 확신시키는 일은 불가능하다. 왜냐하면 어떤 외적인 것으로 영이 존재함을 알려줄 수 없고, 모든 영적인 존재는 단지 영으로 느끼거나 인식할 수 있기 때문이다. 현실적인 사람은 증거를 요구하고, 순전히 객관적인 방식으로 모든 것의 원인을 알기를 원한다. 객관적인 원인과 인간 안에 하나님의 영의 존재한다는 것을 증명하는 일은 시험을 해보는 방식으로만 가능할 것이다. 사람이 하나님의 영을 깨우기 위한 모든 전제 조건을 충족시킬 준비가 되어 있다고 선언하면, 그는 자신 안에서 스스로 이에 대한 신뢰성을 체험하게 될 것이다.

그런 대신에 자신이 아주 철저하게 파헤친다고 믿는 사람은 이웃 사람의 경험을 거부하고, 영적인 맹인으로 머문다. 그는 내면의 혼의 삶을 알지 못한다. 외적인 삶이 그와 그의 생각을 완전히 차지한다. 그의 영은 가장 깊은 겉형체 속에서 잠들어 있고, 이로부터 벗어날 수 없다. 생각을 바꾸는 일이 거의 전혀 불가능하다. 그는 영적 사고를 훈련하는 사람을 비웃고, 사람이 아주 어리석어, 자신의 잘못된 생각을 유일하게 옳다고 생각하고, 영적 사고를 훈련하는 사람을 조롱하고, 세상을 비판한다.

사람들을 하나님께 인도하려는 노력이 있는 곳에서도 영의 눈이 먼 상태에 있는 사람들을 찾아볼 수 있다. 왜냐하면 비로 선한 의지를 가지고 있지만, 그들의 생각은 너무 세속적이고, 그들의 신앙의 깊이가 부족하기 때문이다. 왜냐하면 믿음이 먼저 모든 사람 안에서 직접 성장시켜야 만하고, 학교와 같은 방식으로 사람이 사람에게 전해줄 수 없기 때문이다.
