Hour of death.... without preparation.... agony of passing away....

In the middle of life, man begins to think about questions relating to his bodily end. During this time, he is haunted by thoughts of a sudden end.... he tries to avoid them at first, and yet he will always listen to them. It is like a constant urging to keep these questions in mind, it is like a continuous admonition to remember his end and to take a stand on it. Every moment the spiritual power uses to remind the human being of this, and it is truly only beneficial for the soul to pay attention to such thoughts. An unnoticed moment can already bring existence on earth to an end, and no-one has the power to prolong his own life on earth by one hour when the time of his passing has come. And therefore everyone should be prepared to give up earthly life at any time in order to enter the eternal kingdom. He should consciously concern himself with his continuation of life after death, he should adjust his earthly life such that it is completely in harmony with his earthly task and thus is only a time of preparation for the actual life in the beyond. If he constantly checks himself as to whether his earthly life corresponds to the divine commandments, if he makes it his business to serve the creator of heaven and earth.... if he always seeks contact with Him and thus consciously prepares himself and works on his soul, then the thought of death will not frighten him, he will find it rather pleasant and learn to regard the hour of death as the hour of liberation from the body shackles. People, on the other hand, who fearfully ward off every thought of it or who let the admonitions pass by completely indifferent, will indeed sometimes have an easy earthly life because they will not bother themselves with anything that could shake them out of their calm; they will live straight into the day without any sense of responsibility.... They will also never impose any restrictions on themselves for the sake of a possible continuation of life.... they will reject everything that is held up to them as a task in life.... yet with the approach of death they will fall into a dreadful restlessness and then get to taste all the horrors of it in full, if they have not previously been made accessible to other thoughts through a long time of suffering. The hour of death will not be welcome to them, they still cling to earthly life with all the fibres of their being and do not desire to exchange it for another because they are not prepared for it in the slightest. But the hour of separation comes for all, and often unforeseen. An unprepared person feels all the agonies of passing away, and his end is truly not enviable. And yet, every person has it in his own hands to make this hour an hour of salvation if he always lives his earthly life in such a way that he need not fear the responsibility.... that he can return his life to the father in heaven at any hour with the childlike trust of finding His mercy and His love, because this earthly life was lived in constant contact with Him....

Hora da Morte.... Sem preparação.... Agonia da passagem....

Na meia-idade, o homem começa a pensar em questões relacionadas com o seu fim corporal. Durante este tempo, ele é assombrado por pensamentos de um súbito fim_de.... Ele tenta evitá-los no início e, no entanto, sempre os ouvirá. É como uma incitação constante a manter estas questões em mente, é como uma admoestação contínua a lembrar o seu fim e a tomar uma posição sobre ele. A cada momento o poder espiritual usa para lembrar o ser humano disso, e é verdadeiramente benéfico para a alma prestar atenção a tais pensamentos. Um momento despercebido já pode levar a existência na Terra a um fim, e ninguém tem o poder de prolongar a sua própria vida na Terra por uma hora, quando a hora da sua passagem chegou. E, portanto, todos devem estar preparados para desistir da vida terrena a qualquer momento, a fim de entrar no reino eterno. Ele deve preocupar-se conscientemente com a continuação da sua vida após a morte, deve ajustar a sua vida terrena de tal modo que ela esteja completamente em harmonia com a sua tarefa terrena e assim seja apenas um tempo de preparação para a vida real no além. Se ele se verifica constantemente se a sua vida terrena corresponde aos mandamentos divinos, se ele faz questão de servir ao Criador do céu e da Terra.... se ele sempre procura contato com Ele e assim se prepara conscientemente e trabalha na sua alma, então o pensamento da morte não o amedrontará, ele achará agradável e aprenderá a considerar a hora da morte como a hora da libertação dos grilhões do corpo. As pessoas, por outro lado, que temerosamente afastam cada pensamento ou que deixam passar as admoestações completamente indiferentes, terão de fato, às vezes, uma vida terrena fácil, porque não se incomodarão com nada que possa sacudi-los de sua calma; continuarão a viver o dia sem qualquer senso de responsabilidade. Eles também nunca imporão restrições a si mesmos em nome de uma possível sobrevivência.... eles rejeitarão tudo o que lhes é apresentado como uma tarefa na vida.... mas com a aproximação da morte eles cairão numa inquietação terrível e agora poderão experimentar todos os horrores da mesma na sua totalidade, se não tiverem sido previamente tornados acessíveis a outros pensamentos através de um longo tempo de sofrimento. A hora da morte não será bem-vinda para eles, eles ainda se agarram à vida terrena com todas as fibras do seu ser e não desejam trocá-la por outra, porque não estão preparados para ela de modo algum. Mas a hora da separação chega para todos, e muitas vezes imprevisível. Uma pessoa despreparada sente todas as agonias da morte, e o seu fim não é verdadeiramente invejável. E no entanto, cada pessoa tem em suas próprias mãos transformar esta hora em uma hora de redenção se ela sempre vive sua vida terrena de tal forma que não precisa temer a responsabilidade.... que pode devolver sua vida ao Pai Celestial a qualquer hora com a confiança infantil de encontrar Sua misericórdia e Seu amor, porque esta vida terrena foi vivida em constante contato com Ele....
