B.D.-No. 1908
Knowledge of God can only be found in a relationship of service, because the desire to serve requires love, but love is the key to recognizing the eternal deity. He who wants to rule will hardly recognize God, for he lacks love, otherwise he would not want to rule. If people serve each other like brothers, this excludes ruling. One will show love to the other, and God will recognize them; He will be in their midst, for where there is love, there is God Himself. The servant relationship, if it is not established by force, will therefore result in the greatest blessing, for it ensures union with God.... Serving in love always presupposes freedom of will; a person will do something of his own accord to help his fellow human being, help him bear his suffering or keep it away from him. And this serving in love brings him the knowledge of God.... But recognizing God means receiving wisdom from Him.... recognizing God means being informed about God's work, His power and His glory.... recognizing God means knowing about His infinite love, goodness and mercy, and whoever serves in this way will be introduced to this knowledge by God. He will give to man as he gives to his fellow human beings, for serving in love is giving.... Whoever conveys earthly or spiritual goods to his fellow human being serves him in love, for he seeks to lift his fellow human being's state of want and to help him in earthly or spiritual need. The human being therefore takes pity on his suffering or needy fellow human being because love is active in him. And so God also takes pity on man and turns the same love towards him again. And so He now penetrates into all depths of wisdom, for divine love Itself approaches the human being and floods him with Its love.... But the radiance of God is His power, His spirit.... This communicates itself to the human being and therefore he must become knowledgeable. He must receive wisdom because eternal wisdom unites Himself with him; he must receive strength because the strength from God overflows into the human being, and he must become love himself because divine love continues to flow towards him as long as he himself serves in love, thus distributes love, and God Himself is present in every work of love. And anyone who therefore intimately unites himself with God must recognize Him ever more, he must penetrate ever deeper into the essence of the eternal deity. And thus anyone who is active on earth as a servant will attain the deepest realization of God, for his nature will be love....
Amen
