Geist und Körper suchen die Seele zu gewinnen....

Geist und Körper haben das eine gemeinsam, daß sie die Seele besitzen wollen, daß sie diese zu gestalten suchen, doch in verschiedener Weise. Der Körper sucht die Seele der Welt gemäß zu formen, weil ihm selbst die Welt als einzig-erstrebenswert scheint und er also sein Verlangen auf die Seele zu übertragen sucht. Der Geist dagegen hat ein anderes erstrebenswertes Ziel; er will das geistige Reich einnehmen, und er sucht die Seele diesem Reich entsprechend zu gestalten; er sucht sie also zu formen in anderer Weise.... dem göttlichen Willen gemäß. Also steht der göttliche Wille dem Verlangen des Körpers entgegen.... Der Körper erstrebt die Materie, der Geist dagegen ist völlig der Materie entrückt.... Sein Wollen und Streben gilt nur der Angleichung an die ewige Gottheit, er kennt nur ein Verlangen, den Zusammenschluß mit Gott und den ewig lichtvollen Zustand. Also sucht er, auch die Seele zu bestimmen, sich seinem Verlangen anzuschließen, er sucht sie zu veranlassen zum gleichen Willen, er zieht die Seele gewissermaßen zu sich herüber und löst sie sonach von der Welt, was für den Körper das Aufgeben seiner Wünsche bedeutet, also ein Überwinden der Materie, der Welt, die der Gegensatz ist zur geistigen Welt. Gelingt es dem Geist, die Seele für das geistige Reich zu gewinnen, so hat die Seele ihre Erdenlebensprobe bestanden, denn es bedeutet dies ein Zuwenden des Willens zu Gott und ein Abwenden von dem, der Herr der Welt ist. Der Körper gehört zwar noch dieser Welt an, doch so er sich dem Begehren der Seele anschließt, also willig nachgibt, so diese sich mit dem Geist vereinen will, sind auch die geistigen Substanzen, aus denen der Körper besteht, reif zur nächsten Verformung, und sie legen den Entwicklungsgang in der Form bedeutend schneller zurück, weil sie ihren Widerstand aufgegeben haben. Der Geist im Menschen hat den Körper überwunden, und dieser hat sich besiegt erklärt.... Es hat der Körper die Seele dem Geist überlassen, also der Geist gänzlich von der Seele Besitz genommen, es hat die Seele mit dem Geist sich vereint. Und nun wird alles Denken, Fühlen und Wollen nur vom Geist bestimmt, und es muß sonach recht sein, denn der Geist ist Anteil Gottes, und er wird die Seele stets bestimmen, das zu tun und zu denken, was dem Willen Gottes entspricht. Und dies ist der Zustand, den die Seele anstreben soll.... in Vereinigung mit dem Geist Gott entgegen und den Zusammenschluß mit Ihm anstreben, um in der Anschauung Gottes die ewige Seligkeit zu suchen und zu finden....

Mind and body seek to win the soul....

Spirit and body have one thing in common, that they want to possess the soul, that they seek to mould it, but in different ways. The body tries to mould the soul according to the world because the world itself seems to be the only thing worth striving for and therefore it tries to transfer its desire to the soul. The spirit, on the other hand, has a different desirable goal; it wants to occupy the spiritual realm and seeks to mould the soul according to this realm; it therefore seeks to shape it in a different way.... according to the divine will. Thus the divine will is opposed to the desire of the body.... The body strives for matter, whereas the spirit is completely removed from matter.... Its will and endeavours are only aimed at aligning itself with the eternal divinity, it only knows one desire, the union with God and the eternally light-filled state. Thus it also tries to determine the soul to join its desire, it tries to induce it to the same will, it draws the soul to itself, so to speak, and thus detaches it from the world, which for the body means giving up its desires, thus overcoming matter, the world, which is the opposite of the spiritual world. If the spirit succeeds in winning the soul for the spiritual kingdom, then the soul has passed its test of earthly life, for this means a turning of the will towards God and a turning away from the one who is lord of the world. The body still belongs to this world but if it joins the desire of the soul, thus willingly yields, if it wants to unite with the spirit, the spiritual substances, of which the body consists, are also ripe for the next moulding, and they cover the course of development in form considerably faster because they have given up their resistance. The spirit in man has overcome the body, and the body has declared itself defeated.... The body has left the soul to the spirit, thus the spirit has taken complete possession of the soul, the soul has united with the spirit. And now all thinking, feeling and willing is only determined by the spirit, and it must therefore be right, for the spirit is part of God and it will always determine the soul to do and think that which corresponds to God's will. And this is the state the soul should strive for.... in union with the spirit towards God and strive for union with Him in order to seek and find eternal bliss in the contemplation of God....
