자기 사랑에 대항하는 싸움.

너희가 아직 전적으로 자기 사랑의 지배를 받으면, 너희는 많은 요구를 받을 것이다. 왜냐면 그러면 자기 사랑을 극복하고 자기 사랑을 자신의 유익을 구하지 않는 이웃사랑으로 바꾸는 일이 너희에게 싸움을 의미하기 때문이다. 그러나 너희가 너희의 자기 사랑을 만족시키는 동안에는 너희가 저세상에서 언젠가 너희의 재산이 될 영적인 재물을 모으지 않는 동안에는 너희는 단지 너희의 육체만을 돌본다는 것을 생각해야만 한다.

너희가 이 땅에 거하는 기간은 영원한 기간이 아님을 그러나 너희가 너희의 성품을 사랑으로 변화시키는 과제를 성취해야만 함을 생각해야만 한다. 왜냐면 너희가 인간으로 이 땅에 임할 때 단지 적은 정도의 순수한 자신을 생각하지 않는 사랑을 가지고 이 땅에 임하기 때문이다. 너희가 먼저 너희 안의 사랑을 불타오르게 해야만 할 필요가 없으면, 너희는 이제 이 사랑의 정도를 높이려고 해야 한다.

그러나 자기 사랑이 너희를 지배하고 있다. 너희는 이런 자기 사랑을 짓눌러야 한다. 이는 육체적인 만족이 성취되게 요구하는 모든 정욕에 대항해 싸우는 것을 항상 의미한다. 관심이 이웃에게 향해야만 한다. 만약에 그가 자신을 다시 말해 자신의 성품을 사랑으로 바꾸길 원하면, 이웃에게 사랑을 행하는 일이 사람이 추구하는 일이 돼야만 한다.

이웃을 위해 포기하는 법을 배워야만 한다. 이웃을 위해 희생을 드릴 자세가 되어있어야만 한다. 내면으로부터 자신의 이웃에게 선한 일을 행하려는 자극을 받아야만 한다. 사람의 의지가 강하면 강할수록 그의 자기 사랑은 항상 줄어들 것이다. 그러므로 "천국은 침노를 당하나니 침노하는 자는 빼앗느니라" 이다.

자기 사랑이 아직 강한 사람은 자기 사랑을 줄이기 위해 강한 강제를 사용해야만 한다. 그에게 계속하여 세상의 자극이 눈 앞에 주어질 것이다. 왜냐면 하나님의 대적자는 그가 단지 할 수 있는 곳에서 그를 시험할 것이기 때문이다. 모든 이런 시험에서 저항하는 일이 어렵게 될 것이다. 그는 강제를 사용해야만 할 것이다.

그러나 그의 의지가 자신의 성품을 변화시키는 자신의 이 땅의 과제를 성취시키기 위해 추구하면, 그는 성공할 것이다. 그에게 능력이 제공될 것이다. 왜냐면 그가 자신의 목표에 도달하길 원하기 때문이다. 그가 자신의 목표를 추구하게 하기 위해 항상 또 다시 하나님을 사랑하고 이웃을 사랑하라는 계명을 그에게 알려줄 것이다.

그의 의지가 선하면, 그는 먼저 자신의 의무를 성취시키려고 할 것이다. 그는 하나님의 계명을 성취시키려고 추구할 것이다. 그가 내면으로부터 사랑을 행하게 자극을 받을 때까지 자기 사랑에 대항해 싸우는 일이 줄어들 때까지 추구할 것이다. 왜냐면 그가 선한 의지를 가지고 있으면, 그는 자신에 대해 승리할 것이기 때문이다.

그러나 대부분의 사람들은 자기 사랑의 지배받는다. 그들은 단지 자신만을 생각하고 그들 안의 사랑은 식었다. 그러므로 그들은 극복하는 자가 될 수 없다. 그들은 항상 세상적으로 유리한 것만을 구하고 죽음 후의 그들의 삶을 생각하지 않는다. 그들의 운명은 비참할 것이다. 왜냐면 그들은 가난하고 처량한 가운데 저세상으로 들어가기 때문이다.

저세상에서 성장은 아주 어렵게 될 것이다. 왜냐면 그러면 그들은 자기 사랑을 포기하길 원하지 않기 때문이다. 그들은 단지 자신의 운명만을 생각하고 다른 혼들의 운명은 그에게 아무런 감동도 주지 못하기 때문이다. 이런 혼들이 자신의 자기 사랑을 내려놓는 일은 아주 어렵다. 그들이 자신을 변화시켜 그들의 눈길을 같은 위험한 상황 가운데 있는 이웃에게 향할 때까지 그들은 오랜 기간 동안 위험과 고통 속에 머물러야만 할 것이다.

그러므로 그가 이 땅의 삶을 떠나야만 하게 되기 전에 이 땅에서 자기 사랑을 포기하는 사람은 복받은 것이라고 말할 수 있다. 왜냐면 혼이 한번 올바른 사랑을 깨달으면, 혼이 자신의 유익을 위해 포기하길 원하지 않았던 것을 포기할 수 있기 때문이다. 그러면 혼이 저세상으로 가면, 혼에게 위험이 아주 크지 않다.

그러면 혼은 이웃에 대한 사랑을 느낄 수 있을 것이고 쉽게 성장할 것이다. 혼은 언젠가 축복에 도달할 것이다. 왜냐면 혼 자신이 사랑을 행하면 행할 수록 그 안의 사랑이 증가될 것이기 때문이다. 혼은 사랑을 행할 많은 기회를 가질 것이다. 왜냐면 하나님이 모든 혼들이 어두움으로부터 자유롭게 되어 빛에 도달할 수 있게 모든 혼들을 돕기 때문이다.

Fight against selfish love....

Much is demanded of you if you are still completely dominated by selfish love, for then it means a struggle for you to overcome it and change it into unselfish neighbourly love. But you must remember that you only take care of your body as long as you satisfy your selfish love and that you do not collect any spiritual treasures which will one day make up your wealth in the kingdom of the beyond. You must remember that your stay on this earth is not eternal but that you have to fulfil a task: to change your nature into love; for you enter earth as a human being with only a small degree of pure, selfless love, which you should now increase if you don't first have to kindle love in yourselves.... But selfish love dominates you, and you should suppress it, which always means a fight against all desires which demand fulfilment for physical comfort. Your attention must be directed towards your fellow human being, and it must be the human being's endeavour to carry out works of love if he wants to change himself, i.e. his nature, into love. He must learn to renounce for the sake of his neighbour, he must be willing to make sacrifices for the sake of his neighbour, he must be urged from within to do good to his fellow human being, and his self-love will become ever smaller the stronger the human being's will. And that is why it is said that the “kingdom of heaven suffers violence, and only the one who needs violence seizes it for himself'." Whose selfish love is still very strong will have to use great violence to reduce it, the charms of the world will constantly be placed before him, for God's adversary will tempt him wherever he can, and it will be difficult to resist all those temptations, he will have to use violence.... but he will succeed as soon as his will strives to fulfil his earthly task: to change his nature. He will be supplied with strength because he wants to reach his aim.... And in order for him to strive towards this aim he will repeatedly be reminded of the commandments of love for God and his neighbour, and if he is of good will he will first only fulfil his duty, he will strive to fulfil God's commandments.... until he is then driven from within to work of love and the fight against selfish love becomes ever less, for he will become victorious over himself if he is of good will. Yet most people are dominated by selfish love, they only think of themselves, love has grown cold in them and therefore they cannot become overcomers, they will only ever seek earthly advantages and not think of their life after death.... And their fate will be a bitter one, for they will enter the kingdom of the beyond poor and miserable, where it will also be difficult for them to ascend, because even then they will not want to give up their selfish love, because even then they will only think of their own fate and the fate of other souls will not affect them. It is particularly difficult for these souls to relinquish their selfish love, and they will have to remain in adversity and torment for a long time before they change and turn their gaze to the souls in the same predicament. For this reason anyone who still gives up his selfish love before he has to surrender his earthly life is to be called blessed on earth.... For once the soul has become acquainted with true love it will also be able to detach itself more easily from what it would otherwise not want to give away for its own sake. And then the danger will no longer be so great when it enters the kingdom of the beyond; then it will also be able to feel love for its neighbour and ascend more easily, one day it will also attain beatitude, because the more it practices love itself the more its love will increase. And it will have much opportunity to do so, for God helps every soul so that it can detach itself from darkness and reach the light...._>Amen
