아직 물질에 여전히 연연해 하는 저세상 혼의 상태.

이 땅의 모든 일은 인간의 육체적인 죽음으로 끝이 난다. 사람이 저세상으로 가지고 갈 수 있는 것은 전혀 없다. 그가 단지 자신의 생각이 원하는 것을 저세상에서 찾을 수 있게 될 것이다. 이런 생각이 여전히 물질과, 이 땅의 재물과 아주 밀접하게 연관이 되어 있다면, 이런 물질에 대한 상상력이 그의 욕망에 합당하게 또한 저세상에서 이런 재물이 있는 것처럼 그를 속이게 될 것이다. 그러나 이런 재물은 더 이상 이 땅에서 처럼 붙잡을 수 있게 존재하지 않는다. 그러므로 인간은 이 땅의 밖에서 살고 있지만, 자신이 스스로 자신의 생각으로 구축한 세계 안에서 산다.

그러므로 아직 자신을 물질로부터 완전히 분리시킬 수 없는 사람은 이 땅에서와 같이 동일한 싸움을 해야만 한다. 그가 자신의 욕망을 극복하고, 자신을 물질로부터 해방시킬 때까지 영의 영역으로 들어갈 수 없다. 따라서 이 땅의 삶을 잘 끝낼 수 있지만, 존재 자체가 느끼는 그의 이 땅의 상태는 잘 끝낼 수 없다. 그의 상태는 불쌍한 상태이고, 성취되지 않은 욕망을 가진 상태이고, 고통스러운 욕망과 끊임 없는 실망의 상태이고, 끊임 없는 불만과 고통스러운 자기를 비난하는 상태이다. 또는 더 심각한 일은 존재에게 어떤 도움이나 가르침이 주어질 수 없고, 그의 상황을 개선하려는 의지를 가질 수 없는 가장 깊은 어두움 속으로 무감각하게 가라 앉는 일이다.

혼이 이 땅에 남겨둔 것을 혼은 몇 번이고 다시 얻으려고 노력한다. 혼은 혼이 주로 이 땅에서 살던 곳에 머물고, 일어나는 모든 일을 보고, 계속 지켜본다. 이런 시간은 혼의 상황을 바꾸거나, 혼의 생각에 변화를 일으키지 못하는 쓸모 없게 보내는 시간이다. 말할 수 없는 오랜 시간이 지난 후에야 혼은 자신의 불쌍한 상태를 깨닫는다. 혼은 자신이 이 땅과 더 이상 아무런 관련이 없음을 깨닫고, 세상의 재물를 얻거나 붙잡으려는 자신의 희망이 없는 노력을 보게된다. 이 깨달음에 이어 가장 깊은 절망의 시간이 뒤 따르고, 이런 절망의 시간은 존재가 도움을 주려는 혼의 촉구에 굴복하고, 그를 끔찍한 상태에서 자유롭게 해주는 행동을 취하기로 결정할 때까지 지속이 된다.

존재가 한번 깨닫게 되면, 더 높은 성장의 길을 이제 믿을 수 없을 정도로 빠르게 갈 수 있다. 그러면 존재는 아직 자신의 소유인 자신의 의지의 힘으로 어두움의 상태에서 벗어나려고 노력하고, 그런 갈망은 가장 포괄적인 지원을 받게 된다. 존재는 이제 아직 세상의 재물을 향한 모든 욕망을 자원하여 버리게 될 것이다. 존재는 빛과 자유 외에는 아무것도 바라지 않게 될 것이고, 자신의 고통스러운 상태가 다른 구원을 받지 못한 많은 혼들에 대한 동정심을 갖게 할 것이다. 존재가 더 깊은 어두움을 감싸인 존재들에게 자신의 도움을 주면서, 존재 안의 사랑이 이제 활성화되기 시작한다. 존재는 이제 같은 고통 속에 있던 동료들에게로 베푸는 사랑을 통해 자신이 구원을 받는다. 존재는 빛의 존재들의 가르침을 받아드리면서, 빛의 존재들의 인도를 자원하여 따르고, 이제 자신 편에서 다시 설명을 해줌으로 도울 수 있는 존재들에게 다시 설명을 해준다.

존재는 자신 안의 물질을 향한 모든 욕망을 죽였을 때, 다시 말해 극복했을 때 자유롭게 된다. 존재가 아직 이 땅에서 이 일에 성공을 한다면, 존재는 평온하게 저세상으로 갈 수 있고, 그의 상태가 그에게 빛과 지식을 줄 것이다. 그러나 아직 세상의 재물에 묶여있는 혼에게는 정상에 이르는 길이 말할 수 없을 정도로 어렵다. 왜냐하면 혼이 물질에 대한 집착을 극복하기 전에는, 혼이 빛의 영역으로 들어갈 수 없고, 그러므로 마침내 깨닫고, 남김없이 자신에 대한 작업을 하고, 사랑을 통해 자신을 구원하고, 자신과 같은 존재들을 구원하기 위해, 혼이 이 땅에서 행하지 않은 사랑을 베푸는 일을 할 때까지 끝 없는 고통의 시간을 견뎌야만 하기 때문이다.

State of the soul in the afterlife that is still attached to matter....

Everything earthly comes to an end with the physical death of man. There is nothing that man can take over from it into the beyond. Only what his thoughts desire he will find over there, and if these thoughts are still very much connected with matter, with earthly goods, then his imagination will also conjure up these goods for him in the hereafter, according to his desire, but these will no longer exist earthly tangibly. Thus the human being will then live outside the earth but within that which he constructs for himself in his world of thoughts. And so the human being, who cannot yet completely separate himself from matter, has to take up the same battle against it as on earth; he cannot enter the kingdom of the spirit until he has overcome his cravings and freed himself from them. Thus earthly life may well be over but not his earthly state as far as it is felt by the being itself. This is a pitiable state, a state of unfulfilled desires, agonizing longing and constant disappointment, a state of constant dissatisfaction and tormenting self-reproach, or.... what is even worse.... an apathetic sinking into deepest darkness, where the being is inaccessible to all help and instruction and cannot muster any will to improve its situation. What it has left behind on earth, the soul now tries to gain again and again, it mainly stays where it lived on earth and sees and follows everything that happens. And this is time spent in vain, which brings no change to its situation and also no change to its thinking. Only after an unspeakably long time does it recognize its pitiful state, it realizes that it no longer has any connection with the earth and sees the hopelessness of its efforts to gain or hold on to earthly goods. This realization is followed by a time of deepest despair which lasts until the being gives in to the urging of helpful souls and decides to take action to free itself from its dreadful state.... The path of higher development can now be travelled incredibly quickly once the being has recognized this. Then it seeks to escape the state of darkness by virtue of its will, which it still calls its own, and such a desire is largely supported. It will now willingly separate itself from every desire which was still for earthly possessions, it will no longer desire anything other than light and freedom, and its own agonizing state lets it become sympathetic for the fate of the other unredeemed souls. And now love starts to become active in it by now turning its help towards the beings which are still enveloped by deeper darkness. And now the being redeems itself through the love it gives to its fellow sufferers, and it willingly follows the guidance of the beings of light by allowing itself to be taught by them and now enlightens the beings again, to whom it can thereby bring help. The being only becomes free when it has killed, i.e. overcome, all desire for matter within itself. If the being still succeeds in doing so on earth it can enter the beyond carefree and its state will bring it light and knowledge, yet the path to ascent is indescribably arduous for the soul which is still chained to the possessions of this world, for until it has overcome this inclination it cannot enter spheres of light and thus has to endure endless times of torment until it finally realizes.... but then to restlessly work on itself and make up for what it neglected to do on earth.... to give love in order to redeem itself and its kind through love....
