Le Indicazioni di Dio alla caducità dei beni terreni

All’uomo dapprima dev’essere reso comprensibile la caducità del terreno-materiale, prima che si rivolga a ciò che è imperituro. La vita terrena colma i suoi pensieri, perché lo mette davanti a compiuti e l’adempimento di doveri, che occupano sempre il suo pensare. E sarebbe insaziabile, se tutto avesse consistenza, perché allora potrebbe costantemente aumentare il suo possesso ed allora non ci sarebbe più nessun limite per i suoi desideri e brame. Ma dato che materia è peritura, è sempre di nuovo costretto ad essere attivo per il raggiungimento di questi beni, cosa che può comunque anche occupare tutto il suo pensare, ma lascia anche libera la possibilità che la caducità gli insegna di pensare diversamente, che gli può apparire inutile di impiegare tutta la forza vitale solo per questi beni, che ha desiderio per dei beni che sono imperituri. Solo la conoscenza dell’inutilità del possesso terreno può indurlo a tendere al possesso spirituale, oppure di inseguire sempre di più il caduco, perché non ha consistenza. E persino quando all’uomo rimane conservato il possesso terreno e lo può costantemente aumentare senza che gli venga tolto, il pensiero alla morte è per lui sempre un ammonimento che si deve staccare in tempo da ciò che attraverso la morte perde comunque. Quindi da Parte di Dio è disposto tutto nella vita in modo che l’uomo impari molto facilmente a disprezzare il mondo ed i suoi beni e che può entrare mentalmente in un altro mondo. Ma i suoi pensieri e la sua volontà non vengono orientati per costrizione a questo altro mondo, l’uomo è libero da quale mondo si lascia catturare. Ed i beni terreni eserciteranno sovente una maggior forza d’attrazione, perché sono afferrabili e visibili, mentre i Beni spirituali lasciano poca impressione, perché presumibilmente hanno meno valore, e lo avranno anche solo per l’uomo, quando è in grado di staccarsi facilmente dai beni terreni. Se ogni uomo pensasse che già il giorno di domani possa essere per lui l’ultimo, allora tutti i beni t terreni e la loro conquista si sembrerebbe totalmente senza senso, e provvederebbe un poco di più per il tempo dopo. Ma rigettano ogni pensiero alla morte come “ancora anticipato” e gioisono solo del mondo terreno e dei suoi beni. Perciò agli uomini viene anche sempre di più guidato davanti agli occhi la morte, più la fine è vicina. Dal mezzo della vita vengono strappati gli uomini per indicare sempre di nuovo ai prossimi la caducità, per rivolgere sempre di nuovo i loro pensieri al proprio decesso. Viene mostrato così evidente, quanta poca sicurezza possa avere ogni singolo riferito alla sua propria vita e viene sempre di nuovo distrutto il possesso, beni terreni cadono vittime a differenti catastrofi. Sempre ed ovunque viene indicato agli uomini la vera Vita, quella costante, che ognuno si può conquistare, se lo vuole seriamente, se tende ai Beni spirituali, che nemmeno la morte gli può togliere, che lo seguono nel Regno dell’aldilà, quando è venuta l’ora del suo decesso. Ogni uomo deve tendere ai Tesori spirituali, allora non lo spaventerà nemmeno la morte; allora è diventato vincitore anche sulla morte, perché lo attende una Vita terna nel Regno spirituale, che lo rende immensamente felice e che ha consistenza in tutta l’Eternità.

God's references to the transience of earthly goods....

The transitoriness of the earthly-material must first be made comprehensible to the human being before he turns to that which is imperishable. Earthly life fills his thoughts because it confronts him with tasks and the fulfilment of duties which will always occupy his thoughts.... And he would be insatiable if everything lasted, because then he would be able to constantly increase his possessions and there would then be no limit to his desires and cravings.... But since matter is transient, he is thereby constantly forced to be active in order to achieve these goods, which can indeed also take up all his thinking but also leaves open the possibility that transience teaches him to think differently.... that it can seem useless to him to use all his vitality only for these goods.... that he has a desire for goods which are imperishable. Only the realization of the worthlessness of earthly possessions can cause him to strive for spiritual possessions.... or else to chase ever more after the transient because it has no permanence.... And even if earthly possessions remain with the human being and he can constantly increase them without them being taken away from him, the thought of death is always a reminder to him that he should detach himself early from that which he nevertheless loses through death.... So everything in life is arranged by God in such a way that the human being can very easily learn to despise the world and its goods and mentally enter another world.... But his thoughts and will are not necessarily directed towards this other world.... man is free to choose which world he allows himself to be captivated by.... And earthly goods will mostly exert a greater attraction because they are tangible and visible, whereas spiritual goods leave little impression because they are supposedly of too little value.... and will only have value for people if they are able to easily detach themselves from earthly goods. If every person were to consider that the very next day could be his last, then all earthly goods and their acquisition would seem completely pointless to him and he would make somewhat more provision for the time after.... But they reject every thought of death as 'still premature' and only enjoy the earthly world and its goods. That is why the closer the end is, the more death is brought before people's eyes.... People are torn out of the midst of life in order to repeatedly point out the transience to their fellow human beings, in order to repeatedly turn their thoughts towards their own demise.... It is so obviously shown how little security each individual may have with regard to his own life.... and again and again possessions are destroyed, earthly goods fall victim to the various catastrophes.... People are always and everywhere pointed to the real, permanent life which everyone can attain if he seriously wants to.... if he strives for spiritual goods which even death cannot take away from him, which will follow him into the kingdom of the beyond when the hour of his passing has come.... Every person should strive for spiritual treasures, then even death will not frighten him; then he will also have become victorious over death, because eternal life awaits him in the spiritual kingdom, which will make him unspeakably happy and last for all eternity....
