L’imperiturità – L’Eternità – Il suicidio

Il problema dell’imperiturità – il concetto dell’Eternità – l’uomo non lo può risolvere, perché non afferra intellettualmente ciò che va oltre i concetti terreni, ma non gli può essere nemmeno data una spiegazione spirituale che sarebbe sufficiente per la comprensione di ciò. Soltanto l’ingresso nelle Regioni di Luce dà all’essere una parziale chiarificazione, ma anche allora gli rimane ancora un problema che non può mai essere risolto definitivamente, come l’eterna Divinità. Questo deve essere premesso per rendere comprensibile ciò che ora segue. In tempi di miseria spirituale gli uomini si sentono tentati di credere di porre una fine alla loro vita e con ciò al loro “essere” secondo il loro beneplacito, perché credono di esistere soltanto in uno spazio di tempo limitato e si sentono autorizzati e capaci di abbreviarlo. A loro manca semplicemente la comprensione dell’imperiturità, per uno spazio di tempo illimitato, per l’Eternità. Che loro non smetteranno mai di esistere, è per loro nulla di dimostrabile, ma è più gradevole il pensiero di sapere che una volta la vita termina. E l’uomo sente qualche volta un disagio in vista della fine temporale, ma si accontenta di questo pensiero, piuttosto che con una continuazione della vita dopo la morte, perché ha riconosciuto che sulla Terra tutto è limitato nel tempo e perciò non vuole mai credere in una imperiturità del suo “Io”. Voler rendere poi chiaro ad un uomo il pensiero del concetto “eterno”, sarebbe semplicemente impossibile. Il pensiero che qualcosa che è in collegamento più stretto con lui, non debba mai smettere di esistere, l’opprime e risveglia in lui la sensazione di responsabilità perché comprensibilmente la vita è da considerare totalmente diversa appena si deve ammettere una costante esistenza.

Immortality.... Eternity.... Suicide....

The question of immortality.... the concept of eternity.... cannot be solved by the human being because on one hand he cannot understand something that reaches beyond earthly concepts, but on the other hand he cannot be given a spiritual explanation which he could adequately understand either. Only on entering the regions of light can the being be given a partial explanation but even then it remains a problem which, like the eternal Deity, can never be completely solved and comprehended. This has to be said first in order to explain the following:

In times of great spiritual adversity people are inclined to believe that they can put an end to their lives at will, and thus an end to their existence, because they believe that they only exist for a limited period of time and hence feel entitled and qualified to shorten it. They simply lack understanding for immortality, for endlessness of time, for eternity.... That they will never cease to exist cannot be proven to them, but the thought of knowing that life will end one day is far more comforting to them.... And although from time to time the human being feels uneasy about the temporal ending he nevertheless rather accepts this thought than the thought of a continuation of life after death because he knows that everything on earth is temporary and therefore he cannot and will not believe in the immortality of his Self. To explain the concept of ‘eternal’ to such a person would simply be impossible.... The idea that something so intimately related to him should never cease to exist worries him and awakens his sense of responsibility because, understandably, life has to be viewed quite differently as soon as a permanent existence has to be taken into account.
