Earthly or spiritual thought currents....

The more you isolate yourselves from the world, the easier you find the entrance into the spiritual realm, for the thoughts flowing to you from the spiritual kingdom will no longer be met by opposition. The world, however, is a constant obstacle for such spiritual thoughts, for only in total seclusion will they be accepted by the human heart. And thus you can understand why people spend so little time on spiritual thoughts while they are still bound by the world, for worldly thoughts will always displace spiritual thoughts.... i.e., the human being will be incapable of accepting mental knowledge, because worldly thoughts push to the fore and prevent spiritual thoughts from reaching the person's heart. And yet, the human being is responsible for the mental knowledge he is subject to, for free will alone determines what the human being thinks, and free will either rejects or accepts the waves of thoughts encircling him. And the will, in turn, is directed in accordance with the human being's nature.... it is either spiritually or worldly inclined. It is not forced to take one direction or the other, it is completely free. Nevertheless, everything depends on the direction of this will, his thinking and activity, his present and the future fate of his soul, which can be glorious but also dreadful. Thus, the world is a danger for the human being's will, and yet it has to be in order to enable the soul to gain clarity, in order to urge it to make a decision, which must be taken between itself and the spiritual realm. Both kingdoms exist but the soul can only want one kingdom, and it has to determine which kingdom it wants. If it chooses the material realm, which is the world, then it will remain attached to this realm.... if it chooses the spiritual realm then it will become its abode when the soul leaves the earthly body, when its earthly progress is over. And it is courted by both kingdoms, it is influenced by both kingdoms but not forced.

For this reason the soul bears the responsibility for its own thinking and intentions, for it is able to choose either direction, it is not impossible for it to make the right decision even if it is tangibly confronted by the material world and the spiritual world seems to be unreal. For the spiritual forces have a specific power over the soul so that they are repeatedly able to intervene even with someone unwilling.... so that he, too, is grasped by them and thus the person has to deal with them.... he can simply reject them if he is unwilling.... Nevertheless, they affected him and therefore he cannot avoid the responsibility if it is demanded of him. The human being is able to think, this is the reason for his responsibility.... And no-one imposes thoughts upon him. It is entirely up to him what he thinks. The aim of the helpful spiritual forces who try to influence him in a positive sense will always be that he thinks correctly.... But since negative forces also exert an influence, the human being has to make his own decision, and therefore one cannot speak of 'spiritual coercion' to which one person succumbs and the other does not. And thus, it occasionally requires inner battles to remain focussed on spiritual thoughts when earthly thoughts try to crowd in. The will to mature spiritually can provide strength for this inner battle, and then the person will already have won, for his will was positive and must also have positive results. And the more a person is involved in the world the greater will be his victory, for the greater the oppositions and enticements are, the greater the will is which overcomes them and chooses the spiritual kingdom. But one day the soul will delight in its victory, for it shaped its own fate for eternity, it will approach a life of blissful happiness and only ever thank God for providing it with the strength to prevail....

Irdische oder geistige Gedankenwellen....

Je mehr ihr euch von der Welt absondert, desto leichter findet ihr den Eingang in das geistige Reich, denn es stoßen die Gedanken nicht mehr auf Widerstand, die euch aus dem geistigen Reich zuströmen. Die Welt aber ist das ständige Hindernis für solche geistige Gedanken, denn nur, wo völlige Abkehr ist, werden sie aufgenommen vom Herzen des Menschen. Und so werdet ihr es auch verstehen, warum sich die Menschen so wenig geistig befassen, wenn sie noch weltlich gebunden sind, denn die weltlichen Gedanken werden immer geistige Gedanken verdrängen.... d.h., es wird der Mensch nicht fähig sein für die Aufnahme eines Gedankengutes, weil sich weltliche Gedanken vordrängen und den Menschen hindern, daß jene Gedanken zum Herzen vordringen. Und dennoch ist der Mensch selbst verantwortlich für das Gedankengut, das ihn beherrscht, denn allein der freie Wille bestimmt, woran der Mensch denkt, und der freie Wille wehrt oder gibt Zugang den Gedankenwellen, die ihn umkreisen. Und der Wille wieder ist so gerichtet, wie das Wesen des Menschen ist.... geistig oder weltlich eingestellt. Er wird weder nach der einen noch nach der anderen Richtung hin gezwungen, er ist völlig frei. Und doch hängt von der Richtung dieses Willens alles ab, sein Denken und Handeln, sein gegenwärtiges und das zukünftige Los der Seele, das herrlich, aber auch furchtbar sein kann. Die Welt also ist eine Gefahr für den Willen des Menschen, wie sie aber doch sein muß, um die Seele zu einer Klarheit kommen zu lassen, um sie zu einer Entscheidung zu drängen, die zwischen ihr und dem geistigen Reich getroffen werden muß. Beide Reiche sind vorhanden, ein Reich nur kann die Seele wollen, und dieses Reich muß sie selbst bestimmen. Und wählt sie das materielle Reich, das die Welt ist, dann bleibt sie auch diesem Reiche verhaftet.... wählt sie das geistige Reich, dann wird dieses ihr Aufenthalt werden, wenn die Seele den irdischen Körper verlassen wird, wenn ihr Erdengang beendet ist. Und von beiden Reichen aus wird sie gelockt, von beiden Reichen aus wird sie beeindruckt, aber nicht gezwungen. Darum also trägt die Seele selbst die Verantwortung für ihr Denken und Wollen, denn sie kann nach jeder Richtung hin sich entscheiden, es ist ihr nicht unmöglich, sich recht zu entscheiden, selbst wenn die materielle Welt greifbar vor ihr steht und die geistige Welt scheinbar unwirklich ist. Denn es haben die geistigen Kräfte eine gewisse Macht der Seele gegenüber, daß sie sich immer wieder einzuschalten vermögen auch dem Unwilligen gegenüber.... daß also auch dieser erfaßt wird von ihnen und also der Mensch Stellung dazu nehmen muß.... nur daß er, sowie er unwillig ist, sie abwehrt.... Aber sie haben ihn berührt, und er kann daher nicht sich der Verantwortung entziehen, wenn sie von ihm wird gefordert werden. Der Mensch kann denken, und das ist der Grund seiner Verantwortung.... Und niemand zwingt ihm die Gedanken auf. Was er denkt, steht ihm völlig frei. Daß es richtig ist, wird immer das Ziel der guten Geisteskräfte sein, die ihn zu beeinflussen suchen in positivem Sinn.... Aber da auch die negativen Kräfte einwirken, muß also der Mensch selbst entscheiden, und es kann somit nicht von "geistigem Zwang" gesprochen werden, dem der eine erliegt und der andere nicht. Und so gehören auch mitunter innere Kämpfe dazu, bei geistigen Gedanken zu bleiben, wenn irdische Gedanken sich eindrängen wollen. Der Wille, geistig zu reifen, kann auch Kraft geben für diesen inneren Kampf, und dann hat der Mensch schon gesiegt, denn sein Wille war positiv und muß sich auch positiv auswirken. Und desto größer wird der Sieg sein, je mehr der Mensch in der Welt steht, denn desto größer sind die Widerstände, desto größer der Anreiz und desto stärker der Wille, der sich durchsetzt und sich entscheidet für das geistige Reich. Aber die Seele wird sich dereinst des Sieges erfreuen, denn sie hat sich selbst ihr Los gestaltet für die Ewigkeit, sie wird einem Leben in Seligkeit entgegengehen und immer nur Gott danken, Der ihr die Kraft gab zum Überwinden....
