Working of the adversary: defence against God's word....

The fact that people reject God's word is understandable because God's adversary can influence them as long as they strive for his kingdom, thus, through their desire for earthly goods, he grants them the power over themselves which he uses to good effect by influencing them against everything that is true, full of light, good.... so that they also oppose the word of God, which, however, is the most valuable thing on earth they should strive for.... The earthly world is still the adversary's sphere of power from God, for it consists of that which has fallen away from God, of that which is bound in the earthly creations, in matter, which is still willingly turned towards God's adversary but cannot be forced by him to fulfil the adversary's will. But the human being in the state of free will is a suitable object for him, which he now tries to make submissive to his will. For he wants the latter to turn fully and completely towards him again, to express his opposition to God anew.... And since the human being is still weak-willed, since he has not yet firmly decided in favour of God Whose kingdom he does not see, he entices him with his kingdom, which is far more attractive to people because everything is placed before their eyes.... But through God's word they are made aware of the transience of earthly things.... through God's word they are reminded of the effects a way of life can have if it is used rightly or wrongly.... through God's word the human being is warned and admonished.... And he can easily reach his aim if he makes the word of God the guideline for his thoughts and actions.... But the adversary of God tries to prevent this in order not to lose what is his.... He knows that God's word, as the eternal truth, also has the power to influence people correctly and that they will then finally be lost to him. For this reason all his efforts are only ever aimed at preventing people from receiving the divine word, and therefore he instils a feeling of repulsion in them and they listen to him because at the same time the world lures them with its goods.... Anyone who has already detached himself more from matter is more likely to turn his attention to the spiritual kingdom, and he is also more likely to let himself be captivated by the word of God.... even if he does not consciously desire the kingdom of God at first.... but he accepts without resistance, and then it will not fail to make an impression on him either, because the word of God contains the strength within itself as soon as resistance is abandoned. In the last days every single soul will be fought over and God's adversary will have the upper hand because people will grant him this themselves, because they are materialistic to such an extent that everything spiritual will fade away for them, that they will not examine it first but already want to know nothing about divine-spiritual matters because then they would have to put the world aside.... which, however, is infinitely more important to them.... And yet the word of God is the only salvation for people because it enlightens them and at the same time gives them light and strength.... yet the freedom of their will is not touched, and therefore the human being himself decides to whom he turns.... And thus he also creates his own lot in eternity....

Wirken des Gegners: Abwehr gegen Gottes Wort....

Daß die Menschen sich ablehnend verhalten gegen Gottes Wort, ist darum verständlich, weil der Gegner Gottes sie so lange beeinflussen kann, wie sie sein Reich anstreben, also durch das Verlangen nach irdischen Gütern ihm selbst die Macht über sich einräumen, die er gut nützet, indem er sie beeinflußt gegen alles Wahre, Lichtvolle, Gute.... so daß sie auch dem Wort Gottes Abwehr entgegensetzen, das jedoch auf Erden das Wertvollste ist, das sie anstreben müßten.... Die irdische Welt ist noch das Machtbereich des Gegners von Gott, denn sie besteht aus dem von Gott Abgefallenen, aus dem in den irdischen Schöpfungen, in der Materie, gebundenen Geistigen, das willensmäßig noch dem Gegner Gottes zugewandt ist, nur nicht von diesem gezwungen werden kann, den Willen des Gegners zu erfüllen. Der Mensch aber ist im Zustand des freien Willens für ihn ein geeignetes Objekt, das er nun seinem Willen gefügig zu machen sucht. Denn er will, daß dieser sich wieder ihm voll und ganz zuwendet, daß er seinen Widerstand gegen Gott aufs neue bekundet.... Und da der Mensch noch schwachen Willens ist, da er sich noch nicht fest entschieden hat für Gott, Dessen Reich er nicht sieht, locket jener ihn mit seinem Reich, das für die Menschen weit mehr Anziehungskraft besitzet, weil ihnen alles vor Augen gestellt wird.... Durch Gottes Wort aber werden sie hingewiesen auf die Vergänglichkeit des Irdischen.... durch Gottes Wort wird ihnen vorgehalten, wie sich ein Lebenswandel auswirken kann, wenn er recht oder falsch genützt wird.... durch Gottes Wort wird der Mensch gewarnt und ermahnt.... Und er kann sein Ziel mit Leichtigkeit erreichen, wenn er sich das Wort Gottes zur Richtschnur seines Denkens und Handelns macht.... Das aber sucht der Gegner Gottes zu unterbinden, um das ihm Gehörende nicht zu verlieren.... Er weiß es, daß Gottes Wort als die ewige Wahrheit auch die Kraft hat, die Menschen recht zu beeinflussen, und sie dann endgültig für ihn verloren sind. Darum gilt sein ganzes Bemühen immer nur dem, die Menschen an der Entgegennahme des göttlichen Wortes zu verhindern, und darum flößt er ihnen das Gefühl der Abwehr ein, und sie hören auf ihn, weil gleichzeitig die Welt mit ihren Gütern locket.... Wer sich schon mehr von der Materie gelöst hat, der wendet seine Aufmerksamkeit eher dem geistigen Reich zu, und er läßt sich auch von dem Wort Gottes eher gefangennehmen.... selbst wenn er anfangs nicht bewußt das Verlangen hat nach dem Reiche Gottes.... aber er nimmt widerstandslos an, und es wird dann auch seinen Eindruck nicht verfehlen auf ihn, weil das Wort Gottes die Kraft in sich birgt, sowie der Widerstand aufgegeben ist. In der Endzeit wird um jede einzelne Seele gerungen, und der Gegner Gottes hat großes Übergewicht, weil die Menschen ihm dieses selbst zubilligen, weil sie in einem Maß materiell sind, daß alles Geistige für sie verblaßt, daß sie nicht erst prüfen, sondern schon darum nichts wissen wollen von Göttlich-Geistigem, weil sie dann die Welt zurückstellen müßten.... die ihnen aber endlos mehr gilt.... Und doch ist das Wort Gottes die einzige Rettung für die Menschen, weil es sie aufklärt und gleichzeitig Licht und Kraft gibt.... doch die Freiheit ihres Willens wird nicht angetastet, und darum entscheidet der Mensch selbst, wem er sich zuwendet.... Und also schafft er sich auch selbst sein Los in der Ewigkeit....
