The power of the word.... ineffectiveness....

The power of the word cannot become effective as long as the human being rejects it. Therefore the word will also not be recognized for what it is: as emanation of the eternal deity, as long as the human being does not want it to bear witness to it. The inner defence is a visible influence of the adversary of God, for a good person feels beneficently touched because the adversary of God has no power over these people. The divine word is the direct emanation of God.... God's strength of love can certainly penetrate everywhere but it immediately becomes ineffective as soon as it encounters resistance, otherwise the word would exert a certain spiritual coercion on people who are still God-opposing. The opposition to God does not only consist of open rejection of God and obvious counteraction, but the person can appear outwardly as God-affirming and yet inwardly be full of opposition to everything that has to do with faith. And on such a person God’s word remains completely without impression. His heart remains closed because his intellect wants to deny what requires an affirmative attitude in order to be able to work as grace. Offering these people the pure word of God from heaven does not promise much success, and these are the people of whom it can be said that they are neither warm nor cold.... who do not have the courage to openly reject, who are considered believers and yet inwardly deny everything and often still influence their fellow human beings with their attitude. For these, therefore, the divine word is no source of strength, for they only hear it according to the letter and it has no spiritual meaning for them. These are the ones who also doubt the book of the fathers, even if they openly profess it. And therefore they will also read it without understanding, and it will confuse rather than enlighten their spirit. For the power is not able to penetrate to the heart. It is only a dead word, for life is missing because man himself is dead in spirit. And spirit must speak to spirit. God’s word is the current of strength which again touches the divine spark, but only if the human being is willing to do so. All resistance interrupts the current because God gives nothing that does not want to be accepted. And so it is understandable that the word of God is all the more effective the more intimately it is desired. The desire for the divine word also secures an inconceivable blessing for the recipient, and the power of God flows through him who opens himself to the flow of power through his desire for it. He feels what his fellow human being cannot comprehend, he will understand what is completely inexplicable to him, for he connects himself with God through his desire, a connection which the latter can never enter into because he is far from God and does not make use of His strength in order to be able to approach Him. For without the supply of strength from God the human being is a weak being, and he will achieve nothing on earth as long as he withdraws himself from this supply of strength through his will, as long as his will is still under the influence of the one who is God's adversary, who did not want to acknowledge God as the source of strength and therefore fell....

말씀의 힘. 효과가 없는 역사.

사람이 말씀을 거부하는 동안에는 말씀의 힘이 역사할 수 없다. 그러므로 사람이 영원한 신성을 증거하는 말씀을 원하지 않는 동안에는 그는 말씀을 있는 그대로 즉 영원한 신성이 발산해준 것으로 깨닫지 못할 것이다. 내면에서 거부하는 일은 하나님의 대적자가 드러나게 영향을 미친 일이다. 왜냐면 선한 사람은 말씀을 행복하게 느끼기 때문이다. 왜냐면 하나님의 대적자가 선한 사람에 대한 권세가 없기 때문이다.

하나님의 말씀은 하나님이 직접 발산해준 것이다. 하나님의 사랑의 능력은 어디든지 도달할 수 있지만 저항을 만나면 즉시 효력이 사라진다. 그렇지 않으면 말씀이 아직 하나님을 대적하는 사람들에게 특정한 영적인 강요를 행사했을 것이다. 하나님을 대적하는 것은 단지 하나님을 공개적으로 거부하는 명백한 대항뿐만 아니라, 인간에게 외적으로는 하나님을 인정하는 것처럼 보일 수 있지만 내적으로는 믿음과 관련된 모든 것과 전적으로 반대되는 것들이 있다. 그런 사람은 하나님의 말씀에 전혀 감동을 받지 못하고 머물고, 그의 심장은 닫힌 채로 머문다. 왜냐면 그의 이성이 역사가 일어나기 위해 그의 심장의 동의가 필요한 것을 부인하기를 원하기 때문이다.

이런 사람들에게 하늘에서 온 순수한 하나님의 말씀을 전하는 일은 많은 성공을 기대할 수 없다. 이런 사람들이 바로 따뜻하지도 않고 차갑지 않다고 말할 수 있는 사람들이다. 그들은 공개적으로 거부할 용기가 없는 사람들이고, 믿는 사람으로 간주되는 사람들이지만 내적으로는 모든 것을 거부하고, 그들의 관점으로 자주 이웃 사람의 관점에 영향을 미친다. 그러므로 하나님의 말씀이 그들에게 힘의 원천이 아니다. 왜냐면 그들이 단지 영적인 의미가 없이 문자적으로 하나님의 말씀을 듣기 때문이다. 그들이 공개적으로 조상들의 책을 고백하더라도 그들은 조상들의 책을 의심하는 사람들이다. 그러므로 그들은 조상들의 책을 이해하지 못하는 가운데 읽고, 조상들의 책이 그들의 영을 깨우치기보다는 그들의 영을 혼란스럽게 할 것이다. 왜냐면 능력이 심장 안으로 도달할 수 없기 때문이다. 조상들의 책은 생명이 없기 때문에 단지 죽은 문자이다. 왜냐면 인간 자신이 영적으로 죽었기 때문에 생명이 없기 때문이다.

영이 영에게 말해야만 한다. 하나님의 말씀은 힘의 흐름이고, 사람이 인간이 말씀이 하나님의 불씨에 도달하기를 원할 때 단지 말씀이 하나님의 불씨에 역사하고, 모든 방어하는 일이 흐름을 중단시킨다. 왜냐면 하나님은 영접하기를 원하지 않는 것을 어느 누구에게도 주지 않기 때문이다. 그러므로 하나님의 말씀을 더 긴밀하게 갈망할수록 하나님의 말씀이 더 크게 역사하는 일은 이해할 수 있는 일이다.

하나님의 말씀을 향한 갈망은 또한 받는 사람에게 말할 수 없는 축복을 보장한다. 하나님의 힘을 갈망하는 일을 통해 하나님의 힘의 흐름에 자신을 여는 사람에게 하나님의 힘이 흘러간다. 그는 이웃이 이해할 수 없는 것을 느끼고, 이웃이 전혀 설명할 수 없는 일을 이해할 것이다. 왜냐면 그가 자신의 갈망을 통해 하나님과 연결을 이루기 때문이다. 이웃 사람은 절대로 이런 연결을 이룰 수 없다. 왜냐면 그가 하나님으로부터 멀리 떨어져 있고, 하나님께 다가갈 수 있기 위해 하나님의 힘을 요청하지 않기 때문이다. 왜냐면 하나님의 힘의 공급을 받지 못하는 사람은 연약한 존재이고, 사람이 자신의 의지를 통해 하나님의 힘의 공급을 받지 않는 동안에는, 사람이 자신의 의지를 통해 아직 하나님을 힘의 원천으로 인정하기를 원하지 않았고 그러므로 타락하게 된 하나님의 대적자의 영향 아래 있는 동안에는, 그는 이 땅에서 아무 일도 성취하지 못한다.
