Faith.... strong wrestling....

An everlasting inner struggle is necessary in order to attain strong faith, and this presupposes a strong will to be able to accept what teachings are imparted to people, i.e., to be convinced of its truth. A right faith can be gained, consequently it is also to be regarded as a gift, yet the human being must also be willing to accept the gift, thus again his will must participate, otherwise the human being cannot believe. Wanting to believe necessarily also results in being able to believe, the will alone is decisive as to the strength with which faith seizes it. In your deepest inner being you must gain the conviction of the correctness of what is demanded of you to believe, only then can you say: I believe.... But in order to be able to gain this conviction the human being also has to do a certain amount of work beforehand, otherwise this faith can never come to life in him. He must express the will to believe through his way of life, for the will alone, without the deed, is not fully effective and therefore not effective either. But his way of life should be an activity of unselfish neighbourly love. Through this he now connects himself with God, in Whom he is taught to believe. The connection with God lets him feel His nearness, he becomes aware of a strength which flows through him, even if he cannot express this feeling. But as soon as he is united with God through activity in love, the conviction will also arise in him that there is a being full of love, wisdom and power, and he can now consciously say: I believe in this being.... Then faith will have come alive in him. Furthermore, he must take a stand on all spiritual knowledge which is offered to him, which is demanded of him to believe. And again it is love which works in him that his spirit mentally gives him enlightenment from within about what he desires. Thus the thought material imparted to him is made so understandable to him by his spirit or the unacceptable is revealed to him that he can now either accept or reject with conviction, and then one can speak of living faith again. And thus faith in Jesus Christ as the son of God and redeemer of the world is to be understood in the same way, that the human being first has to receive the knowledge of it, that he has to mentally process it and then take a stand on it himself, that he can only do so if he practices love, if he follows Him, so that through love the spirit can develop which guarantees him right thinking; and fully consciously the human being now acknowledges Jesus Christ.... He believes in Him and now surrenders himself to Him in this faith.... Faith has to be won, the human being has to have the good will to be able to believe and now do everything that earns him a deep unshakeable faith.... And for this he must pray for strength and grace so that his will will not flag, so that he will walk on earth according to God's will.... as soon as he has already gained faith in God. God knows the slightest stirring of the heart, and where He finds the will which turns towards good, there He will also direct His grace which will then be accepted and utilized according to the person's will. But the will alone is decisive as to which measure of grace it uses, and the human being's will will also prompt him to pray, which will never remain unanswered but will secure him an increased grant of grace which guarantees his ability to recognize and thus his convinced faith.

믿음. 강한 투쟁.

강한 믿음을 얻기 위해서는 끊임없는 내면의 싸움이 필요하다. 이일은 사람들에게 전해진 가르침을 받아드릴 수 있는 강한 의지를 전제로 한다. 즉 진리를 확신할 수 있는 일을 전제로 한다. 올바른 믿음은 얻을 수 있다. 그러므로 올바른 믿음을 선물로 여길 수 있다. 그러나 사람이 또한 선물을 받을 준비가 되어 있어야 한다. 다시 그의 의지가 참여해야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면 사람은 믿을 수 없다.

믿으려는 의지가 믿을 수 있는 결과를 절대적으로 가져오고, 유일하게 의지가 사람이 어떤 강한 믿음을 갖게 될지에 결정적이다. 너희는 너희의 가장 깊은 내면에서 너희에게 믿도록 요구하는 것이 올바른 것이라는 확신을 얻어야만 한다. 그러면 너희는 다음과 같이 말할 수 있다: "나는 믿는다." 그러나 이런 확신을 얻기 위해 사람은 또한 이전에 어느 정도 작업을 해야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면 이런 믿음이 절대로 그 안에서 생성될 수 없고, 그는 자신의 삶의 방식을 통해 믿으려는 의지를 표현해야만 한다. 왜냐면 행동이 없는 의지만으로는 충분히 가치가 없고, 그러므로 효과적이지 않기 때문이다.

그러나 그의 삶의 방식이 자신의 유익을 구하지 않는 이웃 사랑이 되야 한다. 이를 통해 그는 하나님을 믿는 법을 배운, 하나님과 연결을 이루고, 하나님과의 연결이 이제 하나님의 임재를 느끼게 한다. 비록 그가 느낌을 표현할 수 없을지라도, 그는 그를 통해 흐르는 힘을 의식하게 된다. 그러나 그가 사랑 안에서 일함으로써 하나님과 연결을 이루면, 그는 사랑과 지혜와 능력이 충만한 존재가 있다는 확신을 얻게 되고, 그는 이제 의식적으로 말할 수 있다: "나는 이 존재를 믿는다." 그러면 그 안의 믿음이 생명력이 있게 된다.

그는 자신에게 제공되고, 자신이 믿도록 요구받는 모든 영적인 내용에 대한 입장을 취해야만 한다. 그러면 사랑이 다시 그 안에서 역사하고, 그의 영이 내면으로부터 그가 갈망하는 설명을 생각을 통해 준다. 그러므로 그에게 전달된 생각은 그의 영에 의해 이해될 수 있게 되거나, 받아드릴 수 없는 것으로 그에게 드러나, 그가 이제 확신을 가지고 받아들이거나 거절할 수 있다. 그러면 다시 이런 믿음을 생명력이 있는 믿음이라고 말할 수 있다.

그러므로 예수 그리스도를 하나님의 자녀요 세상의 구세주로 믿는 믿음은 사람이 먼저 그에 대한 지식을 취해야만 하고, 생각을 통해 점검하고, 이제 스스로 자신의 입장을 취해야만 하는 것으로 이해할 수 있다. 그가 사랑을 행하고, 예수 그리스도를 따르고, 이로써 사랑을 통해 그에게 올바른 생각을 보장하고, 사람이 이제 완전히 의식적으로 예수 그리스도를 깨닫게 하는 영이 성장할 수 있게 만들 때, 그는 단지 이렇게 할 수 있다. 그는 예수 그리스도를 믿고, 이제 이런 믿음으로 자신을 예수 그리스도께 헌신한다. 믿음은 얻어야만 하고, 사람은 믿을 수 있기 위해 선한 의지를 가져야만 하고, 그는 이제 깊고 흔들리지 않는 믿음을 얻기 위한 모든 일을 해야만 한다.

이런 믿음을 갖기 위해 그는 그가 이미 하나님을 믿는 믿음을 가졌다면, 그의 의지가 실패하지 않고, 하나님의 뜻에 따라 이 땅의 삶을 살 수 있도록 힘과 은혜를 구해야만 한다. 하나님은 심장의 아주 작은 움직임을 알고, 선을 향한 의지를 찾는 곳으로 자신의 은혜가 향하게 할 것이다. 그러면 하나님의 은혜는 사람의 의지에 따라 영접을 받고, 활용된다. 그러나 의지가 유일하게 그가 사용하는 은혜의 정도에 결정적이다. 사람의 의지가 또한 그를 기도로 유도할 것이고, 이런 기도는 절대로 응답을 받지 못하게 되지 않을 것이고, 그에게 은혜의 공급을 더 많이 보장한다. 은혜의 공급이 그에게 깨달을 수 있는 능력을 주고, 이를 통해 확신이 있는 믿음을 준다.
