What is faith?....

The human being shall become blessed through his faith.... But what is faith? When can a human being rightly claim that he believes? If spiritual doctrines are presented to him he will never be able to demand or produce the evidence for them, for spiritual matters are beyond his intellectual activity and can never be verified. Hence the human being, if he believes, must deem something to be true which cannot be proven. And yet, if he wants to become blessed, more is expected of him than blind faith, which consists of the fact that the human being will not argue against it, that he thus seemingly accepts the doctrines he is offered.... It is demanded of him that he unreservedly affirms it inwardly, that he accepts a teaching because he is inwardly convinced of it even without proof. This inner conviction, however, will always be the product of mental activity, the forming of an opinion about that which he is expected to believe. And this forming of opinion must be initiated by him without external coercion, a doctrine must, in a manner of speaking, keep him occupied, he must consider the pros and cons, until he has finally reached a point of view, but then he will also be able to uphold it if a statement is requested of him. The religious doctrine needs to be thought through before it can become actual mental knowledge, otherwise one has to speak of mere blind faith, which is completely worthless before God. The result of his deliberation depends on his will for truth and his desire for God, which unconsciously also impels him into action of love. God will truly not leave a serious seeker of truth in error if through his conduct in life he makes himself worthy of receiving the truth. However, since error is spread all over the world, since the prince of lies tries to spread darkness everywhere and would like to extinguish all light, it is understandable that erroneous belief has become established among the human race, since God respects every person’s free will and even His sacred Word, which guarantees purest truth, is at the mercy of people’s free will; consequently, it must also be left up to the human being’s will to believe or not to believe, if he scrutinises the individual doctrines and forms an opinion about them....

But in order to be convinced of the latter it is imperative that he scrutinises them, i.e., he must spend thought on them, and if his desire is serious and he fulfils the conditions set by God in order to bestow spiritual knowledge he will become intellectually enlightened, and it will be clear and plausible to him what his heart affirms. And then he can also convincingly say without proof: I believe.... How else would it be possible to recognise misguided teaching, and how could God demand accountability from people if it were His will that people should exclude mental activity and replace it with unconditional blind faith? In that case people would not be responsible apart from the few who try to spread this teaching and want to prevent all opposition by demanding blind faith. Yet this is not God’s will, after all, the psychological work only starts after the mental activity which, in the former case, usually remains ignored. Only mental activity establishes the connection with the spiritual kingdom, then the beings of light will be able to step into action and start their actual work of teaching, this, however, is impossible if the human being believes blindly. And he will assuredly come to a satisfactory conclusion if he is serious regarding the true knowledge, regarding his opinion about God and about his soul. For God will not leave those in darkness who seek the light, and a person will always find the mental conclusion satisfactory if he gained it after faithful prayer to God Who alone can enlighten him as to whether and when he thinks correctly. If you believe in a God of love, wisdom and omnipotence then it will fully suffice to gain a convinced faith through teachings which originated from God as well as to recognise human additions and to what extent they correspond to the truth. For God, the eternal Truth, will always help the person and straighten his thinking, He will give him power of judgment if only he is willing to recognise what is right and to stand up for what he recognises as truth towards his fellow human beings.... for it is God’s will that the truth shall be spread, because only truth leads to ascent and blissful happiness....

Che cosa è la fede?

L’uomo deve diventare beato tramite la sua fede. Che cosa è la fede? Perché l’uomo può dire di sé con ragione di credere? Se gli vengono sottoposti degli insegnamenti spirituali, non ne esigerà o non potrà mai offrire una dimostrazione, perché lo spirituale è al di fuori dell’attività d’intelletto e non sarà mai dimostrabile. Quindi l’uomo, se crede, deve considerare per vero qualcosa che non può essere dimostrato. E malgrado ciò, se vuole diventare beato, da lui viene preteso di più che soltanto una cieca fede che consiste nel fatto che l’uomo non ne parli contro, quindi che accetti apparentemente ciò che gli viene offerto come patrimonio mentale. Da lui viene preteso che interiormente se ne predisponga del tutto affermativamente, che accetti un insegnamento perché ne è interiormente convinto, anche senza avere nessuna dimostrazione. Questa convinzione interiore sarà però sempre il prodotto della sua attività mentale, una presa di posizione verso ciò che viene preteso da lui di credere. E questa presa di posizione deve procedere da lui stesso senza costrizione esteriore, un insegnamento deve occuparlo mentalmente così a lungo, deve soppesare il pro e contro, finché lui stesso ha lottato per arrivare ad una opinione che ora però può anche sostenere convinto, quando gli viene chiesto a manifestarla. L’insegnamento di fede dev’essere pensato fino in fondo, prima che possa essere un proprio patrimonio mentale, altrimenti si deve solo parlare di una fede cieca, che è totalmente inutile davanti a Dio. A quale risultato arriva attraverso la riflessione, dipende dalla sua volontà per la Verità ed il suo desiderio per Dio che lo spinge anche inconsapevolmente all’attività d’amore. Dio non lascerà davvero nell’errore un uomo che cerca seriamente la Verità, se esso stesso si rende degno per la Verità attraverso il suo cammino di vita. Ma dato che nel mondo è diffuso l’errore, dato che il principe della menzogna cerca di diffondere ovunque l’oscurità e vorrebbe spegnere ogni Luce, è comprensibile che l’errore ha preso posto fra l’umanità, dato che Dio rispetta la libera volontà di ognuno, ed anche la Sua Parola santificata, la purissima Verità è esposta alla libera volontà degli uomini, di conseguenza dev’anche essere lasciata alla libera volontà dell’uomo di credere oppure no, se esamina i singoli insegnamenti e ne prende posizione. Ma per poterlo fare convinto, deve assolutamente esaminare, cioè occuparsene mentalmente e se ora il suo desiderio è serio ed adempie le condizioni che Dio pone per poter elargire il patrimonio spirituale, anche il suo pensare verrà illuminato e gli sarà chiaro ed illuminante a cui il suo cuore si dispone in modo affermativo. Ed allora può anche dire convinto senza dimostrazione: io credo. Come potrebbero essere riconosciuto degli insegnamenti errati come tali e come potrebbe Dio ben pretendere dagli uomini la responsabilità, se fosse nella Sua Volontà che l’attività mentale venga esclusa ed al suo posto venga messa incondizionatamente la cieca fede? Allora non sarebbero responsabili gli uomini, ma solo i pochi che cercano di diffondere questo insegnamento e vogliono rendere impossibile ogni resistenza attraverso la pretesa della fede cieca. Ma questa non è la Volontà di Dio, dato che solo tramite l’attività mentale inizia anche il lavoro sull’anima, che nel primo caso rimane quasi sempre inosservata. Solo attraverso l’attività mentale viene stabilito il collegamento con il Regno spirituale e gli esseri di Luce possono entrare in azione e cominciare la loro vera attività d’insegnamento, cosa però è impossibile se l’uomo crede ciecamente. E giungerà certamente ad un risultato soddisfacente, se è serio per arrivare al sapere secondo la Verità, per la sua presa di posizione verso Dio e la sua anima. Perché Dio non lascia nell’oscurità coloro che cercano la Luce e gli uomini saranno sempre soddisfatti del risultato mentale, se lo ha conquistato dopo una preghiera di fede rivolta a Dio, il Quale soltanto gli può dare il chiarimento e quando si muove nel giusto pensare. Se credete in un Dio dell’Amore, Sapienza ed Onnipotenza, allora questo vi basta pienamente per conquistare una fede convinta negli insegnamenti che sono proceduti da Dio, come riconoscerete anche ciò che è stato aggiunto umanamente e fin dove questo corrisponde alla Verità. Perché Dio come l’eterna Verità lo aiuterà ed ordinerà sempre il suo pensare, gli darà la forza del giudizio se soltanto è volenteroso di riconoscere il giusto e di adoperarsi per la Verità, per ciò che ha riconosciuto come Verità nei confronti dei prossimi, perché Dio vuole che venga diffusa la Verità, perché lei soltanto conduce in Alto e rende beato.
