"The spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak...."

The spirit is willing but the flesh is weak.... for the flesh still belongs to God's opposing power because it still harbours many spiritual substances which are immature and therefore at the beginning of their higher development. And these substances are still too much in the power of the adversary, they push towards him and also try to pull the human soul along with them. And so the spirit in the human being wages a constant battle with all the immature entities that surround him. Although the soul has decided in its favour, it is also still surrounded by entities in need of purification and is constantly pressured by them to turn towards the world, which means everything that is beneficial, i.e. pleasant, for the body of flesh. The soul is very often weak and unable to offer sufficient resistance to these desires. And yet it must try to overcome this counter-current, it must wrestle with itself, it must only direct its will towards what the spirit imparts to it, it must desire to hear it and reject every temptation from outside by paying no attention to them and only desiring to hear the voice of the spirit. It must pray fervently for a supply of strength and must not tire, for God allows all these temptations in order to strengthen the will and faith so that it may prove itself in the face of greater opposition from outside. The human being is still fighting against purely physical desires and oppositions but a time will come when he will have to stand firm against external temptations, when he will have to prove himself before the world and when the body will not only have to renounce but also accept suffering in order to set an example of strong unshakeable faith to the world.... He will always and constantly be supplied with strength so that his will becomes strong.... And this will shall already now be strengthened by overcoming small resistances, the soul shall only ever remain united with the spirit in it, it shall learn to despise everything worldly, it shall pass it by unimpressively and by no means hold it back from spiritual striving, the weakness of the flesh shall be fought against and the result will be an ever stronger will which overcomes everything that opposes it. But this strong will cannot be achieved without a fight, otherwise it would be an undeservedly received grace which has to bring the human being to maturity without him striving for it. The supply of strength from God is indeed such a grace which, however, has to be requested time and again, and thus the prayer for increased will will provide him with strength and grace, his will will grow stronger, for then the human being will call upon God Himself for His help and this will also be available to him in abundance. Prayer is also a means of battle against the enemy's temptations, although even the will can be so weakened that it is incapable of prayer, for this also requires the will which, however, will then also find support. But the human being must not surrender to the temptations, the allurements of the world, without will; he must not become so weak that he is no longer able to pray, in every adversity of the soul he must take refuge in prayer, in God, Who will then truly not leave him without help. He must heed the subtle voice of the spirit, which will urge him to pray, to call upon God for strength and grace.... Only then will every weakness of the flesh be overcome, he will become strong in spirit, and his will will conquer all resistance....

«L'esprit est de bonne volonté, mais la chair est faible....»

L’esprit est de bonne volonté, mais la chair est faible, parce que la chair appartient encore à la force contraire à Dieu, parce qu'elle cache en elle encore beaucoup de substances spirituelles qui ne sont pas mûres, qui se trouvent au début de leur développement vers le Haut. Et ces substances sont encore trop dans le pouvoir de l'adversaire, elles poussent vers lui et cherchent à entraîner avec elles l'âme de l'homme. Et ainsi l'esprit dans l'homme mène une lutte constante avec toutes les entités non mûres qui l'entourent. Même si l'âme s'est décidée pour lui, il se trouve encore au milieu d’entités qui nécessitent une purification, et celles-ci cherchent constamment à le faire se tourner vers le monde qui représente tout ce qui est avantageux et agréable au corps de chair. L'âme très souvent est faible et elle n'est pas en mesure de prêter résistance à ces désirs. Mais l’homme doit chercher à vaincre ce courant contraire, il doit lutter avec lui-même, il doit tourner sa volonté seulement sur ce que lui transmet l'esprit, il doit désirer l’entendre et repousser chaque tentation venant de l'extérieur en ne prêtant à celle-ci aucune attention et désirer seulement entendre la voix de l'esprit. Il doit intimement prier pour l'apport de Force et il ne doit pas se fatiguer, parce que Dieu permet toutes ces tentations pour fortifier sa volonté et sa foi, pour qu'il s’affirme dans les adversités majeures qui s'approchent depuis l'extérieur. L'homme combat encore contre des désirs et les résistances purement corporelles, mais viendra un temps où il devra résister contre les attaques venant de l'extérieur, où il devra s’affirmer devant le monde et où le corps ne devra pas échouer, mais aussi prendre sur lui des souffrances, pour donner au monde un exemple d'une foi forte, inébranlable. À lui il sera toujours apporté de la Force pour que sa volonté devienne forte. Et cette volonté doit maintenant être déjà fortifiée pour le dépassement d'adversités mineures, l'âme doit toujours rester en contact avec l'esprit, elle doit apprendre à dédaigner ce qui est mondain, elle doit passer outre sans se laisser impressionner et ne pas retenir sa tendance spirituelle, la faiblesse du corps doit être combattue et la conséquence sera une volonté toujours plus forte qui dépasse tout ce qui se met contre. Mais cette forte volonté ne s’acquiert pas sans lutte, autrement ce serait une Grâce reçue sans mérite qui porterait l'homme à la maturité sans qu'il y aspire. L'apport de la Force de Dieu est bien une telle Grâce, mais elle doit toujours de nouveau être demandée et ainsi la prière pour une volonté renforcée lui procurera la Force et la Grâce, sa volonté deviendra forte, parce qu'alors l'homme demande à Dieu Lui-Même Son Aide, et alors celle-ci lui est mise à disposition dans une très grande mesure. La prière est un moyen de lutte contre les tentations de l'ennemi, bien que sa volonté puisse être si affaiblie qu'il est incapable de prier, parce que même pour cela il faut de la volonté, mais ensuite elle trouve du Soutien. Seulement l'homme ne doit pas se donner sans volonté aux tentations, aux séductions du monde; il ne doit pas devenir si faible qu’il ne soit plus en mesure de prier, car dans la misère l'âme doit prendre refuge dans la prière en Dieu, lequel ne la laissera pas ensuite vraiment sans Aide. Elle doit s’occuper de la voix délicate de l'esprit qui la poussera à la prière pour demander à Dieu la Force et la Grâce. Seulement alors chaque faiblesse de la chair sera dépassée, elle deviendra forte en esprit, sa volonté vaincra chaque résistance.
