The limits of knowledge are set by man, not God....

God has set a limit to knowledge only for the person who is content with it. It may seem as if he can never exceed this limit, but if he is serious about knowing more, there need be no limit for him. However, the extent to which he desires more knowledge is up to him, i.e. he himself determines the limits of knowledge through his will. As soon as the human being fulfils the preconditions which guarantee him the transmission of knowledge, he has used his free will in the right way, for he is now given profound wisdom without restriction. But if he is inclined to believe that God Himself has set limits, then he is content with what the world knows and he feels no urge within himself to exceed the limits on his own authority. He is content, and this is always a step backwards, for man only progresses in constant endeavour. It must be understandable to him that God, as the Truth Himself, also wants to guide His living creations into it and that He is therefore always willing to hand out the truth but that He cannot impart it to everyone who has no desire for it. It is a precious commodity which people can acquire if only they want to, but which must also be desired if it is to be offered to people. However, the fact that it is not given to all people indiscriminately does not justify the assumption that God withholds the knowledge of His reign and activity from all people, that He wants to leave His living creations in ignorance. He will always mentally inform them, and it is solely up to the human being's will as to whether and to what extent he wants to be instructed by the beings who can provide him with information. Yet precisely this human will is very small and weak. Since the human being first has to fulfil conditions in order to be introduced into the spiritual kingdom, his will first has to become active to work diligently on himself. And this seems impracticable to most people and so they don't even try.... And these are the limits which the human being sets for himself because he does not have the will to go beyond these limits. And they don't realize what they are ruining for themselves.... he does not know what bliss he can bring himself through increased knowledge, through the knowledge of things that would otherwise remain hidden from him.... he does not know what spiritual riches he could acquire if he so desired. God's boundless love, however, still provides people with His knowledge because He wants to spread the truth among humanity.... He gives them enlightenment through the mouth of man as to how man can attain increased knowledge in order to stimulate them again to make the attempt themselves because He wants to impart to them the most precious good for the salvation of their souls. Thus He informs them that the human being should not be satisfied with the knowledge spread throughout the world.... And He admonishes them to break through the barriers because they can do so if only they want to. He wants to impart undreamt-of knowledge to them and only needs their will to do so, which should prove itself by the human being fulfilling the preconditions which are necessary in order to be guided into the deepened knowledge about God and His power and glory....

사람이 자신이 지식의 한계를 정하고 하나님이 정하지 않는다.

하나님은 단지 지식에 만족하는 사람들을 위해 지식에 한계를 정했다. 겉으로 보기에는 이 지식의 한계를 넘을 수 없는 것 같이 보이지만, 그러나 더 많이 아는 일에 진지한 사람에게 한계가 있을 필요가 없다. 그러나 그가 얼마나 더 많은 지식을 원할지는 그의 의지에 달려 있다. 다시 말해 사람이 스스로 자신의 의지를 통해 지식의 한계를 정한다. 그가 지식을 받는 보장을 해주는 전제 조건을 충족시킨다면, 그는 자신의 자유의지를 올바르게 사용했다. 왜냐면 그가 이제 제한 없이 가장 깊은 지혜를 얻기 때문이다.

그러나 그가 하나님 자신이 한계를 정했다고 믿으려는 경향이 있다면, 그는 세상이 아는 것으로 만족하고, 또한 자신이 동인이 되어 한계를 넘으려는 충동을 느끼지 않는다. 그는 만족하고, 이런 일은 항상 퇴보하는 일이다. 왜냐하면 사람은 끊임없는 노력하는 가운데 성장할 수 있기 때문이다. 진리 자체인 하나님이 자신의 피조물들을 진리로 인도하기 원하고, 그러므로 하나님이 항상 진리를 전할 준비가 되어 있지만, 그러나 진리를 갈망하지 않는 모든 사람에게는 전할 수 없음을 그가 이해해야만 한다.

진리는 사람이 원할 때 얻을 수 있는 귀중한 재물이지만, 그러나 사람에게 진리를 제공하려면, 사람이 진리를 갈망해야만 한다. 그러나 진리가 모든 사람에게 무작위적으로 제공되지 않는 일이 하나님이 자신의 사역과 역사를 아는 지식을 모든 사람에게 숨기고, 자신의 피조물들을 무지한 상태로 두기 원한다는 가정을 정당화하지 않는다. 하나님은 지속적으로 사람들에게 생각을 통해 설명해주고, 사람이 자신에게 지식을 줄 수 있는 존재로부터, 가르침을 받기 원할지, 어느 정도의 가르침을 원할지의 여부는 전적으로 인간의 의지에 달려 있다.

그러나 사람들의 이런 의지는 아주 적고, 연약하다. 왜냐면 인간이 영의 나라에 들어가기 위해 먼저 조건을 충족시켜야 하기 때문이다. 그러므로 그의 의지가 먼저 자신에 대한 작업을 행해야만 한다. 대부분의 사람들에게 이런 일은 실행 불가능해 보이기 때문에 그들은 또한 시도도 하지 않는다.

이런 한계는 인간이 한계를 넘어설 의지가 없기 때문에 스스로 정한 한계이다. 그는 이를 통해 자신이 무엇을 잃게 되었는 지를 알지 못한다. 그는 더 많은 지식을 통해, 일반적으로 그에게 숨겨져 있을 것들에 관한 지식을 통해, 자신이 어떤 행복을 누릴 수 있었는 지를 알지 못한다. 그는 그가 원했다면, 얻을 수 있었던 영적으로 부유한 재물을 알지 못한다.

그럴지라도 하나님의 무한한 사랑이 인류에게 지식을 전해주기를 원한다. 왜냐면 하나님이 인류에게 진리를 전해주기를 원하기 때문이다. 그는 인간의 입을 통해, 사람들이 어떻게 더 많은 지식을 얻을 수 있는 지를 그들에게 알려주고, 이로써 사람들이 스스로 시도를 하도록 격려한다. 왜냐면 하나님이 그들의 혼의 구원을 위한 가장 귀중한 재물을 그들에게 주기를 원하기 때문이다.

그러므로 하나님은 사람들이 세상에 퍼져 있는 지식으로 만족해서는 안 된다는 깨달음을 그들에게 준다. 하나님은 그들에게 장벽을 돌파하라고 권고한다. 왜냐면 그들이 원할 때, 단지 장벽을 극복할 수 있기 때문이다. 하나님은 그들이 상상하지 못한 지식을 그들에게 전하기를 원하고, 이 일을 위해 단지, 하나님과 하나님의 권능과 영광에 대한 더 깊은 지식으로 인도받기 위해, 필요한 전제 조건을 충족시킨다는 것을 증명하는 그들의 의지만이 필요하다.
