Hours of loneliness.... inevitable separation from the world....

The hours of solitude are well suited to cause a person to reflect and he should therefore often seek the opportunity to escape from all earthly hustle and bustle in order to indulge in inner introspection, which can have a beneficial effect. In his arrogance, the human being often believes that he fulfils the demands God places on His earthly children.... i.e. he does not do the slightest thing to educate himself spiritually or to achieve a higher degree of maturity, i.e. to ennoble his nature. He believes that he was created by God as he is, and he gives himself no account of the extent to which he himself is responsible for shaping his nature. And he can only be enlightened about this if he subjects himself to critical scrutiny, if he compares his actions and thoughts with God's requirements, which He places on man through His commandments of love. Then his inner voice will reproach him for his way of life, or he will be made aware if his actions and thoughts deviate from what God wants.... And again, it depends on the extent to which he listens to the inner voice; it depends on whether he is prepared to contradict or willingly accepts the admonition of those who want to help him.... Accordingly, he will also adjust his further life, he will either endeavour to ennoble himself or try to drown out the inner voice with counter-talk that still expresses too much desire for the world. For the person who is still so attached to the world does not take the fulfilment of the divine commandments seriously in order to secure earthly advantage for himself. And so the earthly-minded person will also not be willing to go into solitude often, i.e. his soul does not long for hours of inner contemplation but seeks to numb itself and drown out the inner voice through the hustle and bustle of the world. And it is God's grace that He forcibly places such people in situations where they are exposed to loneliness.... It is true that the desire for the world can also arise in that person with increased strength and such loneliness can bring him no benefit for his soul; but often the person also comes to the realization of his useless way of life and returns to worldly life as a different person. Inner contemplation has brought him the realization that his previous thoughts and actions were not the right ones, and he tries to change himself and his nature and to pay more attention to his inner life, which he will also succeed in doing if his striving is serious, i.e. if his will remains turned towards right thinking. And so an apparent evil can often.... an inevitable separation from the world.... can often have an extremely beneficial effect, for when the earthly world has moved away from a person, the spiritual world can come closer to him; where earthly distractions do not influence a person's thinking, forces from the beyond can now take effect and, in the form of thoughts, enlighten a person about the actual meaning and purpose of life. And success in spiritual matters can fully compensate the human being for the earthly pleasures he was denied....

Heures de solitude – Séparation obligatoire du monde

Les heures de solitude sont appropriées pour pousser l'homme à la réflexion et donc il doit chercher souvent l'occasion d’échapper à tout le remue-ménage terrestre, pour se dédier à des auto-contemplations intérieures qui peuvent avoir un effet bénéfique. L'homme dans son arrogance croit souvent pouvoir suffire aux demandes que Dieu imposent à ses fils terrestres, c'est-à-dire qu’il ne cherche pas à faire le moindre effort pour se former spirituellement ou bien pour obtenir un degré supérieur de maturité, donc d'anoblir son être. Il croit devoir rester comme il est, tel qu’il a été créé par Dieu, il ne se rend pas le moins du monde compte que la formation de son être revient à lui-même. Et sur cela il peut lui être donné une clarification seulement lorsqu’il se soumet lui-même à une observation critique, s'il confronte ses actes et ses pensées avec les Exigences que Dieu impose aux hommes à travers Ses Commandements d'amour. Alors à travers la voix intérieure il sera poussé à changer sa manière de vivre ou bien il lui sera fait remarquer lorsque ses actes et ses pensées deviennent ce que Dieu veut. Et à nouveau tout dépend dans quelle mesure il écoute la voix intérieure, s'il est enclin à la résistance ou bien accepte avec bonne volonté l'avertissement de ceux qui veulent l'aider. Et cela aménagera aussi sa future vie, cela tendra à l'anoblir ou bien il cherchera à couvrir la voix intérieure avec des discours contraires qui manifestent encore trop son désir pour le monde. Parce que l'homme qui est encore attaché au monde, ne prend pas très précisément à la lettre l'accomplissement des Commandements divins lorsqu’il veut s'assurer des avantages terrestres. Et ainsi l'homme de mentalité terrestre ne sera pas de bonne volonté pour chercher souvent la solitude, c'est-à-dire que son âme n'a pas de la nostalgie pour des heures de contemplation intérieure, mais elle cherche à s'assourdir et à couvrir la voix intérieure avec le vacarme du monde. Et c’est une Grâce de Dieu lorsqu’Il met de tels hommes par contrainte dans des situations où ils sont exposés à la solitude. Dans ces hommes il peut se manifester aussi le désir pour le monde avec une grande force, et une telle solitude n’apporte aucune utilité pour son âme ; mais l'homme reconnaît l'inutilité de son mode de vie et revient à la vie du monde comme un homme différent. La réflexion intérieure doit lui apporter la connaissance que ses pensées et ses actes n'étaient jusqu'à présent pas justes, et il cherche lui-même à changer son être, et tourne plus d'attention à la vie et aux pensées justes. Et ainsi un mal apparent, une séparation obligatoire du monde, peut avoir souvent un effet extrêmement bénéfique, parce que lorsque le monde terrestre s'est éloigné de l'homme, le monde spirituel s'approche ; là où des distractions terrestres n'influencent pas les pensées de l'homme, alors les Forces de l'au-delà peuvent agir et apporter à l'homme l'éclaircissement sous forme de pensées sur le vrai sens et le but de la vie. Et le succès de cette éducation spirituelle peut abondamment dédommager l'homme pour ce qui lui a été refusé comme joies terrestres.
