Hour of inner contemplation....

Inner reflection must precede every transformation of the being. The human being has to subject himself and his actions to frequent scrutiny, he has to examine all his tasks and criticize to what extent he fulfils the divine requirements. This self-observation will also allow him to regocnize his shortcomings, and if he is serious about his soul's work, it will spur him on to make himself ever more perfect. Inner contemplation is a certain control that applies to both his thoughts and his actions. If he relentlessly criticizes himself, he will also regocnize his unworthiness to enter into close contact with his creator, and in humble prayer he will ask God for mercy and grace, and thus he will gain new strength to work on himself. For man could never reach perfection on his own, as his strength is too small without God's help. But this is assured to him, so that God only demands of man that he asks for the favour due to him as a concession that man longs for God. If the human being now often looks at himself and his life in the sense of the soul's higher development, he will also regocnize the distance between himself and God. He will endeavour to reduce it and, if he lacks the strength to do so, will request it from God. And only in this way will he progress on the path of higher development. Only in this way is it possible to come into ever closer contact with the heavenly father, for he will soon no longer go any way without having asked Him for His blessing and His strength, and he will now truly establish the relationship of child to father, which will then also result in an extraordinary gift of strength. And therefore God demands of you that you always give an account to yourselves of how your life on earth is.... that you do not walk along thoughtlessly and without a sense of responsibility but always bear your soul in mind. He wants you not to forget Him in all your earthly activity, that you always find time to cultivate the spiritual within you.... He wants you not only to think of the body but also to give the soul an hour of leisure which belongs to the shaping of your soul.... an hour of leisure which brings you into contact with your lord and saviour, in which you gather treasures for eternity. He wants you then to seriously consider with yourselves whose welfare is more important to you, the welfare of the body or the welfare of the soul. And if you still think too eagerly of the body, you should ask for strength to be able to live and mould yourselves according to divine will. And the hour of inner contemplation will be beneficial for the salvation of your soul, for you will receive strength for new endeavours....

내적인 묵상의 시간.

모든 성품의 변화에 앞서 내면의 묵상을 해야만 한다. 인간은 자신에 대해, 자신의 행동에 대해 자주 시험을 해야 한다. 그는 모든 자신의 과제에 대해 점검하고, 그가 얼마나 하나님의 요구 사항을 충족시키고 있는 지 비판해야만 한다. 이런 자기 관찰은 또한 그의 결점을 깨닫게 할 것이다. 그가 자신의 혼에 대한 작업을 진지하게 여긴다면, 이 것이 자신을 점점 더 온전하게 만들도록 이끌 것이다. 내면의 묵상은 그의 생각뿐만 아니라 그의 행동에 어떤 통제를 하는 일이다.

그가 가차 없이 자신을 비판한다면, 그는 또한 자신의 무가치함을 깨닫게 될 것이고, 창조주와 긴밀하게 접촉하게 될 것이다. 그는 겸손한 기도로 하나님께 긍휼과 은혜를 구할 것이다. 그러므로 그는 자기 자신에 대한 작업을 할 수 있는 새로운 힘을 얻게 될 것이다. 하나님의 도움 없이는 그의 힘이 너무 적기 때문이다. 그러나 이 힘이 그에게 보장이 되고, 하나님은 단지 사람이 하나님을 갈망한다는 고백으로써 그에게 준비된 은혜를 구하기를 그에게 요구한다.

인간이 이제 혼의 더 높은 성장의 측면에서 자신과 자신의 삶을 더 자주 관찰한다면, 그는 또한 자신과 하나님 사이의 간격을 깨달을 것이다. 그는 이 간격을 줄이기 위해 추구할 것이고, 만약 그에게 힘이 부족하다면, 하나님께 힘을 구할 것이다. 단지 이런 식으로 그는 더 높은 성장의 길로 나아간다. 이렇게 해야만 하늘의 아버지와 항상 더 긴밀한 접촉을 할 수 있다. 왜냐하면 그는 곧 아버지께 축복과 능력을 구하지 않고는 더 이상 어떤 길도 가지 않을 것이기 때문이다. 그는 이제 진정으로 자녀와 아버지의 관계를 확립할 것이다. 그러면 결과적으로 특별한 힘을 받는 일이 일어날 것이다.

그러므로 하나님은 너희가 스스로 언제든지 이 땅에서 사는 방식에 대해 점검할 것을 요구하고, 너희가 생각 없이, 책임감이 없이 살지 않고, 항상 너희의 혼을 기억하기를 너희에게 요구한다. 하나님은 너희가 너희의 모든 이 땅의 활동을 하는 가운데 하나님을 잊지 않기를 원하고, 항상 너희 안의 영적인 존재를 돌보는 시간을 찾기를 원한다. 하나님은 너희가 단지 너희의 몸에 대해 생각할 뿐만 아니라 너희의 혼을 형성하기 위해 필요한 여가의 시간을 혼에게 주기를 원하고, 구세주 주님과 연결을 시켜주고 영원을 위해 보물을 수집하는 여가의 시간을 갖기를 원한다. 하나님은 너희가 너희에게 육체의 행복이 더 중요한지 또는 혼의 행복이 더 중요한지, 진지하게 점검해보기를 원한다. 너희가 몸에 대해 너무 열심히 생각한다면, 너희는 하나님의 뜻에 따라 살며 자신을 형성할 수 있기 위한 힘을 구해야 한다. 내적인 묵상 시간이 너희 혼의 구원을 위해 필요하게 될 것이다. 왜냐하면 너희가 새로운 추구를 하기 위한 힘을 받기 때문이다.
