믿음을 어떻게 이해해야 하는가?

너희 사람들에게 증거가 없는 것에 대해 믿을 것을 요구하고 있다. 너희가 너희에게 전해진 것을 진리로 믿게 요구를 받고 있다. 너희는 너희가 이를 스스로 신봉하게 요구받고 있다. 이것이 믿음이다. 너희는 너에게 그의 지식을 전해주려고 시도하는 사람의 지식을 신뢰해야만 한다. 이 지식의 믿을 만한 정도에 따라 너희는 지식을 영접한다. 세상적인 지식은 이제 증거를 통해 확증될 수 있다.

그러나 너희 사람들에게 이런 증거가 없이 접근할 수 있는 가능성이 있다. 그럴지라도 만약에 너희가 너희에게 지식을 전해준 자에 대한 전적인 신뢰를 가지고 있으면 너희는 진리에 대해 확신을 가지게 될 것이다. 이런 믿음은 유별난 것이 아니다. 믿음은 단순히 이웃이 올바르게 안다는 그가 전해준 것을 염려할 것 없이 영접할 수 있다는 신뢰이다.

그러나 증거를 제시할 수 없는 영적인 지식은 다르게 처신한다. 너희가 영적인 지식을 전하는 자를 깊이 신뢰해 염려할 것 없이 영접할지 너희가 그가 말하는 대로 믿을지는 너희 자신에게 달려있다. 너희는 모든 사람이 오류를 범할 수 있다는 것을 안다. 단지 하나님 편에서만 모든 오류를 제외시킬 수 있다는 것을 안다. 너희가 믿어야 하는 진리에 대한 확신을 너희는 어떻게 가질 수 있느냐?

왜냐면 단지 확신을 가진 믿음만이 가치가 있기 때문이다. 증명은 할 수 없다. 너희에게 지식을 전하는 사람은 너희와 마찬가지로 잘못 된 영적인 내용을 전할 수 있고 너희는 그에게 반박하지 않고 외적으로는 믿음이 있는 것처럼 할 수 있지만 그러나 사람 안에 내적인 확신이 없는 한 믿음으로 인정할 수 없다. 이런 내적인 확신을 사람들은 모든 것을 알고 자신의 피조물들에게 빛을 주어 그들이 영의 어두움으로부터 벗어나기 원하는 하나님 자신으로부터 얻을 수 있다.

확신을 가진 믿음을 갖기를 원하는 사람은 생각으로나 또는 기도로 하나님께 의뢰를 해야만 한다. 내적으로 하나님께 고백하는 사람들만이 그와 연결 된 것으로 느끼는 그가 사랑 안에서 살기 때문에 그와 내적으로 연합이 되어 있는 사람들만이 하나님께 다가간다. 사랑이 없이는 어떤 사람도 생명력 있는 믿음을 가질 수 없다. 그런데 이성은 그에게 확신을 줄 수 없다. 왜냐면 영적인 영역과 영적인 지식은 이성으로 헤아려 볼 수 없기 때문이다. 절대로 사람은 이성적인 방식으로 영적인 지식에 도달할 수 없다. 이성은 심장으로 영접한 지식을 여러 가지로 생각해 볼 수는 있다. 그래서 이에 대한 입장을 밝힐 수 있다.

만약에 한 사람에게 사랑이 충만하면, 이성은 이에 대한 반항을 하지 않을 것이다. 그러면 그는 비록 이 지식이 이웃에 의해 그에게 제공되었을지라도 의심 없이 영적인 지식을 영접한다. 왜냐면 사람 안에 있는 사랑이 그에게 깨달음의 빛을 주기 때문이다. 한가지를 너희에게 말해야 한다. 사랑이 없이는 생명력 있는 믿음이 없다는 것이다. 만약에 순수한 영적인 지식에 관한 것이라면, 이성이 사랑을 대신할 수 없다는 것이다. 반면에 사람들에게 증명할 수 없는 세상적인 지식은 가르치는 사람이 믿을만 하게 보이면, 이성에 의해 믿고 영접한다.

영적인 지식에는 그러나 어떤 증거도 없다. 그럴지라도 만약에 그가 사랑의 삶을 통해 지식에 도달했으면, 하나님 자신이 영을 통해 그에게 주셨다면, 이에 대한 믿음이 항상 사람 안에 확신이 되게 한다. 그러면 "사람 안의 영에 역사"는 증거로써 충분하고 실제 믿음이라고 말할 수 있다.

그러나 이 믿음은 죽은 믿음이 아니고 사랑을 통해 생명력이 있게 된 믿음으로 그는 증명을 통해 확증을 줄 수 없는 것을 확신을 가지고 대변할 수 있다. 한 사람이 영적인 지식을 포함해 자신에게 가르쳐지는 것을 전적으로 신뢰하고 신임할 때 그는 믿을 수 있다. 만약에 그가 사랑의 삶을 살면, 그는 그에게 전해진 영적인 지식에 기초해 세워나간다.

다시 말해 항상 자신의 삶의 방식의 기초를 이 지식에 두게 된다. 그리고 영적인 지식을 통해 깨달은 하나님의 의지를 자신의 것으로 만든다. 그가 하나님의 의지에 따라 살면, 그 안이 빛이 될 것이다. 그는 진리와 오류를 구별하는 것을 배우게 될 것이다. 그는 아는 자가 될 것이다. 생명력 있는 확신에 찬 믿음을 얻게 될 것이다

What is meant by "faith"....

You humans are required to believe in something for which you lack evidence.... It is demanded of you that you should accept as truth what is communicated to you.... It is demanded of you that you also confess it yourselves. This is faith.... You therefore have to rely on the knowledge of the one who tries to impart his knowledge to you, and depending on his credibility you accept the knowledge. Earthly knowledge can now indeed be substantiated by evidence, and yet it is possible that such evidence is not accessible to you humans.... but you will nevertheless be convinced of the truth if you have complete faith in the one who imparts the knowledge to you. Such faith is nothing strange; it is simply a trust that the fellow human being is correctly informed and that what he imparts can be accepted without hesitation. But it is different with spiritual knowledge, for which proofs are not to be brought. Then it is up to you yourselves whether you trust the mediator of spiritual knowledge so much that you accept without hesitation that you therefore believe what he tells you. And you know that every person can err, that only on the part of God all error is excluded. How then should you procure for yourselves the inner conviction of the truth of what you are to believe? Because only a convinced faith is of value. Proofs cannot be produced, and the man who imparts knowledge to you can just as well impart an erroneous spiritual material to you, which you certainly do not contradict and therefore pretend a 'faith' outwardly, but which cannot be called faith as long as man lacks the inner conviction. And man can again only get this inner conviction from God Himself, from Him, Who knows about everything and Who also wants to give His creatures a light, so that they find their way out of darkness of spirit. Therefore man must turn to God in thoughts or in prayer, who wants to win a convinced faith. But man again only goes to God who inwardly confesses Him, who feels connected to him and who is therefore inwardly connected to Him because he lives in love. No man will have a living faith, which is without love.... Because the intellect will not be able to give him conviction, because spiritual areas, spiritual knowledge, cannot be fathomed with the intellect. Man will never reach spiritual knowledge intellectually. The intellect can well think through the knowledge received through the heart and take a stand on it, and as soon as love fills a man, the intellect will also not resist it. Then it will accept spiritual knowledge undoubtedly, also when it is offered to it on the part of a fellowman, because love in man gives it the light of recognition. One thing let it be said to you that there is no living faith without love, that intellect cannot replace love when it is about pure spiritual knowledge.... that on the other hand earthly knowledge, for which the proofs are only inaccessible to man, can be accepted believingly by intellect, as soon as the teacher seems to be credible to him. But there is no evidence for spiritual knowledge, and yet faith in it can become conviction in the human being, yet only ever when the human being, through a life of love, attains knowledge which is conveyed to him by God Himself through the spirit.... Then this 'working of the spirit in man' is proof enough, and then it can certainly also be spoken of a 'faith', and still it is no dead faith, but it has become alive through love, and convinced the man now represents that, what cannot be substantiated through proof. But when (now a) man has fullest trust and confidence in him who teaches him, also about spiritual knowledge, then he will also be able to believe; he will accept unchecked when he himself leads a love life, and he will build up on the spiritual knowledge imparted to him, i.e. always base his walk of life on the knowledge and make the will of God his own, which he gets to know through spiritual knowledge. And if he lives according to God's will then it will also become light in him, and he will learn to differentiate truth from error, he will also become knowledgeable and win a living, i.e. convinced faith...._>Amen
