자기 자신과의 싸움. 정욕과 욕망을 극복하는 일.

너희가 너희 혼에게 생명을 주기 원하면, 너희의 육신을 죽여라. 이 말은 너희를 고자로 만든다거나 스스로 자해를 가하면서 너희 육신에 해를 가라는 의미가 아니다. 이런 행동은 단지 너희의 부족한 이해심과 오류에 빠진 인간적인 생각을 나타내주고 내가 창조하여 너희에게 준 것을 존중하지 않는 일이고 하나님이 주신 작품을 존중하지 않는 일을 의미한다. 내가 너희에게 요구하는 일은 너의 육신의 정욕을 죽이는 일이고 너희가 너희 자신을 극복하는 일이고 너희가 너희 혼에게 아주 큰 해를 끼치는 단지 육신의 안락함을 원하는 육신의 정욕을 성취시키지 말라는 의미이다.

육신의 정욕과 싸우는 일은 진실로 어렵고 이를 위해 전적인 의지가 필요하고 자유의지로 절제하는 일이 요구되고 너희에게 자극을 주는 것들을 스스로 거절하는 일이 요구 된다. 이 싸움을 위해 너희에게 힘이 필요하다. 그러나 만약에 너희에게 온전함에 도달하려는 진지함이 있고 실제 온전하게 되는 이 땅의 목표에 도달하려는 의도가 있다면, 이 힘이 너희에게 주어진다. 왜냐면 너희 온전함은 너희의 혼의 상태에 달려 있고 육체의 상태에 달려 있지 않기 때문이다. 육체와 육체의 정욕은 너희의 의지를 시험하기 위해 주어진 것이다.

그러므로 이 땅에서 사는 기간에는 육체가 앞장을 서고 육체는 모든 요구들 가운데 자신의 요구를 우선시 하기를 원한다. 육체의 모든 소원과 욕망은 혼의 소원을 거절하기에 적합하다. 육체는 지속적으로 자신을 드러내고 사람의 의지를 움직여 자신의 요구를 충족시키려고 한다. 그러나 혼은 자신을 공개적으로 나타낼 수 없고 생각을 통해서 자신을 나타낸다. 그러면 이 생각은 재 빨리 다시 물리침을 당한다. 이 생각에 귀를 기울이고 혼을 위해 육체를 등한시 하려면, 아주 강한 의지가 필요하다. 사람이 육신의 정욕에 대항해 싸워야만 하고 혼을 만족시키지 않고 육체를 만족시키는 모든 것에 대항하여 싸워야만 한다.

이를 위해 강한 의지가 필요하다. 내가 너희에게 너희 자신과 너희 정욕에 대항해 싸우는 싸움을 요구한다. 이런 일은 혼이 단지 육체에 대항해 싸우는 일이다. 그러나 혼은 사라지지 않는다. 혼은 언젠가 자신의 성장 정도에 맞는 운명을 짊어 져야만 한다. 사람이 육체를 먼저 생각하고 혼에게 게을리하면, 그의 성장 정도는 아주 낮게 된다.

너희의 정욕에 대항하여 싸우라. 너희의 육체를 죽여라. 육체에게 단지 육체의 생명을 유지하기 위해 필요한 정도만 제공하라. 그리고 다른 모든 것은 너희의 혼을 위해 주라. 너희가 이 땅에서 사는 동안 육체보다 단지 혼에게 더 많은 관심을 둘 때 혼이 성장할 수 있다. 나는 이런 싸움을 축복할 것이다. 처음에는 실제 너희에게 전적으로 강한 의지가 필요할 것이다. 그러나 너희가 너희 자신을 극복하면 할수록 또한 점점 더 쉬워질 것이다. 왜냐면 만약에 너희가 스스로 진심으로 극복하기 원하면, 내가 극복할 수 있도록 지속적으로 너희에게 힘을 부어주기 때문이다. 그러면 너희는 안전하게 목표에 도달할 것이다.

Fighting against oneself, desires and overcoming them....

Kill your body if you want to give life to your soul.... This is not to be understood that you should ill-treat your body, that you mortify yourselves or disfigure yourselves, for such only testifies to a defective intellect, an aberration of human thinking and a disregard of what I as creator have given you, it signifies a disregard of the work towards its creator.... What I ask of you is that you kill the desires of the body, that you overcome yourselves, that you don't fulfil the desires of the body, which only apply to its well-being, and thereby cause your soul excessive damage. This fight against bodily desires is truly difficult, it demands your entire will to renounce, it demands a voluntary renunciation, a denial of that which seems appealing to you. It is truly a struggle for which you need strength, yet this strength will come to you if only you are serious about your perfection.... if you truly intend to reach the aim on earth, to become perfect. For your perfection depends on the state of your soul but not on the state of your body. And the body and its passions were given to you for the testing of your will.... For the time on earth the body therefore comes to the fore, it wants to assert itself in its demands, and all its desires and cravings are suitable to displace the soul's desire, for again and againit comes forward and seeks to determine the human being's will, to grant it fulfilment. The soul, however, cannot express itself obviously, and if it makes itself known in the form of thoughts these thoughts are quickly suppressed again, and it requires great strength of will to listen to it and to neglect the body for its sake.... This requires strength of will, thus the human being must fight against the desires of the flesh, against everything that is beneficial to the body but detrimental to the soul. I call you to this fight against yourselves, against your desires.... I call upon you, for it is only the struggle of the soul against the body.... But the soul is imperishable, and one day it will have to accept its fate according to its state of maturity, which, however, is a very low one if the human being considers the body first and lets the soul starve.... Fight the battle against your desires, kill your body, only give it what it needs to sustain its life.... but turn everything else to your soul, which can only mature if it is thought of more in earthly life than the body.... I will bless such a battle, and it will certainly require all your willpower in the beginning but it will also always become easier the more you overcome yourselves, for I constantly provide you with the strength to overcome if only you seriously want to do so yourselves.... and then you will surely reach your aim....
