세상을 극복한 후에 단지 나타나는 하나님의 진리의 효력.

사람들에게 세상은 실재하고, 영적인 것은 비현실적이고, 사람들은 영적인 것에 관심을 기울이지 않는다. 그들은 겉모양의 세계를 현실을 보고, 그러므로 세상에서 오는 모든 것이나 세상으로 인도하는 모든 것에 접근할 수 있다. 그러나 영의 나라는 그들에게 꿈의 나라이고, 실제 그들에게 희미하게 느끼지만, 그러나 진지하게 여기지는 않는다. 그러므로 하나님의 진리는 이미 이 땅의 세상과 결별하고, 세상을 겉모양의 세계로 깨닫고, 더 이상 세상을 갈망하지 않는 사람에게 단지 가치가 있고 의미가 있는 것이다. 그러므로 아주 적은 사람들에게 진리를 전해줄 수 있다. 왜냐면 세상이 아직 대부분의 사람들을 포로로 잡고 있고, 심지어 영을 추구하는 사람조차도, 그가 또한 아직 세상을 향하게 되면, 자주 의심에 시달리기 때문이다.

사람이 하나님의 진리를 유일하게 갈망할 만한 것으로 생각한다면, 이로써 그의 심장을 채우고 세상의 어떤 생각에 더 이상 공간을 제공하지 않는다면, 하나님의 진리가 무한하게 행복하게 해줄 수 있다. 그러나 사람이 이런 상태에 들어가기 전에 이성이 침투해야만 한다. 다시 말해 이성이 심장과 함께 동시에 진리를 향해 다가가고, 진리를 고백해야만 한다. 세상 일이 이성을 지나치게 요구하지 않고, 이성이 심장이 추구하는 것으로 향할 수 있게 되면, 이런 일은 일어날 수 있다.

사람이 영적인 것에 관심이 있다면, 그는 완전히 닫힌 영역에 거하게 된다. 그러면 세상을 향한 접근이 차단되고, 사람 자신이 의식하지 못할지라도, 그의 혼은 행복하게 된다. 그러면 하나님의 힘이 혼에게 역사할 수 있다. 그러나 세상이 그에게 다시 접근하고, 그가 세상에 주의를 기울이면, 하나님의 힘은 즉시 감소한다. 그러므로 하나님과 연결되기 원하는 사람은 자신의 작은 골방으로 물러나야만 한다. 그는 고독을 구하거나 자신 안으로 고요히 침잠해야 하고, 세상을 제거해야만 한다. 그렇지 않으면 영의 나라가 그에게 영향을 미칠 수 없다.

그러나 세상의 한가운데서 그는 자신의 하나님을 갈망하는 심장을 행복하게 하는 것을 찾지 못할 것이다. 인간은 실제 세상 한가운데서 침잠하는 가운데 자신의 내면에 귀를 기울일 수 있다. 그러면 그는 단지 육체적으로 세상에 있고, 그의 혼은 영의 영역으로 물러나고, 그러면 인간 자신이 이 땅의 세계보다 강하게 된다. 그러면 그는 세상을 갈망하지 않게 되고, 영의 세계를 이 땅의 세계보다 우선에 두게 된다. 그러면 비록 그의 육체가 아직 이 땅에 묶여 있을지라도, 그는 언제든지 영의 세계로 올라가는 일에 성공할 것이다.

순수한 진리를 전파하고 대변할 수 있으려면, 앞에서 설명한 일을 고려해야 한다. 세상의 사람들에게 하나님의 진리를 소개하는 일은 아주 어렵다. 왜냐면 하나님의 진리가 그들에게 너무 비현실적으로 보이고, 세상 사람들의 객관적인 사고방식으로 그들이 만질 수 없거나, 볼 수 없는 것을 부인하기 때문이다. 하나님의 말씀이 그런 사람에게 영향을 미치고, 그가 하나님의 말씀을 생각하는 가운데 세상을 멀리하게 되기까지 자주 오랜 시간이 걸린다.

전적으로 세상적인 생각을 가지고 영의 나라와 적게 접촉한 사람들에게 세상의 종말에 대해, 최후의 심판에 대해, 큰 영적 위험에 대해 설교하는 일은 어렵다. 그들에게 설교자는 항상 몽상가처럼 보일 것이다. 그가 스스로 영의 영역으로 들어가려는 시도를 하고, 영의 영역이 그에게 역사하게 허용할 때까지는 그는 자신에게서 진리의 효력을 느끼지 못하게 될 것이다. 그가 효력을 느끼게 되면, 그는 영의 세계와 이 땅의 세계를 분리하고, 비로소 하나님으로부터 온 순수한 진리에 접근할 수 있고, 진리가 그의 혼을 아주 깊게 행복하게 할 것이다.

Effectiveness of divine truth only after overcoming the world....

For people, the world is the real, the spiritual the unreal, to which they pay no attention. In the world of appearances they see reality, and they are therefore accessible to everything that comes from the world or leads to it. The spiritual realm, however, is a dreamland for them, which touches them dimly from time to time, but is not taken seriously. And thus divine truth is only valuable and significant to the person who has already broken with the earthly world, who has recognized it as a world of appearances and no longer desires it. This is why so few people can be given the truth, because the world still holds most people captive and even the spiritually striving person is often plagued by doubts when he also turns to the world. Divine truth can make a person infinitely happy if it is the only good he finds desirable; therefore it fills the human being's heart and no longer leaves room for thoughts of the world. But before this state occurs in the human being, the intellect must assert itself, i.e., it must simultaneously incline towards truth with the heart, profess it, and this can only occur when the earthly does not excessively claim the intellect, when it can turn to what the heart strives for. The human being is in a completely closed area when he is concerned with spiritual things, then access to the world is blocked and the human being's soul is happy, even if the human being himself is unaware of it. Then divine strength can have an effect on the soul which, however, immediately diminishes when the world approaches him again and he pays attention to it. Therefore, whoever wants to connect with God must withdraw into his little chamber.... he must seek solitude or keep quiet contemplation within himself.... he must switch off the world, otherwise the spiritual kingdom cannot exert its effect on him. But in the midst of the world he will not find what is good for his heart which longs for God. Admittedly, the human being can also enter into silence in the midst of the world, listen within himself, but then he is only physically in the world, his soul, however, withdraws into spiritual realms, then the human being himself is stronger than the earthly world, then he does not desire it but puts the spiritual world before the earthly one, and then he will also succeed in rising into spiritual spheres at any time, even if his body is still bound to earth.

In order to be able to spread and represent the pure truth, this preceding must be taken into account. It is extremely difficult to introduce worldly people to divine truth because it seems so unreal to them and the worldly person in his sobriety rejects what is not tangible or visible to him. And it often takes a long time for the divine word to become effective in such a person, until he mentally engages with it and thereby puts the world aside. And it is difficult to preach about the end of the world, about the last judgement and the great spiritual hardship to people who are completely worldly minded and have little contact with the spiritual kingdom. The preacher will always appear to them as a fantasist, and he will not feel the effect of truth until he ventures into spiritual realms himself and allows these spheres to have an effect on him. Then he will separate the spiritual and the earthly world, and only then will he be accessible to the pure truth from God and it will make his soul profoundly happy....
