혼의성장. 하나님의 의지.

단지 혼을 온전하게 만드는 일에 기여하는 일만이 하나님의 뜻과 일치할 수 있다. 여기에 이 땅의 삶에서 지켜야 할 중요한 기준을 두어야 한다. 혼이 성장할 가능성이 없는 일을 성취시키는 일은 영원을 위한 가치가 없는 일이다. 왜냐하면 사람이 그가 더 높이 성장하도록 그에게 주어진 힘을 잘못된 방식으로 사용하기 때문이다. 그러므로 너희는 또한 너희에게 주어진 시간을 헛되이 보낼 수 있다. 사람이 자신의 생각과 행동을 시험할 때, 자신의 생각과 행동이 항상 그것을 하나님의 뜻과 조화를 이룰 수 있어야만 한다. 다시 말해 영적 성숙을 가져와야만 한다. 그러므로 실제적인 사랑의 행함이 아닌, 즉 이웃사람에게 구원을 주는 일이 아닌, 외적인 행동이 필요하지 않다.

일련의 선행은 혼의 성장을 보장하고, 혼은 온전하게 되기 위한 추구를 한다. 결과적으로 사람이 하느님께 가까이 다가가게 하는 일을 수행한다면, 그가 하느님의 뜻을 성취시킨 것이다. 하나님을 멀리하는 일이 사람을 둘러싼 일들이 일어나게 한 원인이다. 이제 하느님께 가까이 다가가게 하는 일이 하나님과의 간격을 줄이는 일에 도움을 줄 것이다. 이런 목표를 달성하기 위해 현재 하고 있는 일은 하나님의 뜻에 합당한 일이다. 그러나 단지 그 자체가 목적이고, 이 땅의 복지에 기여하거나, 물질의 증가에 기여하는 일은 하나님과의 거리가 멀어지게 하고, 그러므로 하나님의 뜻이 될 수 없다.

Progress of the soul.... divine will....

Only that which contributes to the perfection of the soul can correspond to God's will. And this is the standard to be applied as to what is important to observe in earthly life. It is of no value for eternity to accomplish things which do not signify a possibility of progress for the soul, for then the human being will utilize the strength given to him for higher development in the wrong way and thus the time granted to him for this purpose will also be lost. If the human being subjects his thoughts and actions to scrutiny he must always be able to bring them into harmony with divine will, i.e. they must result in spiritual maturity, and therefore external actions are not necessary which are not expressed works of love, thus they will benefit his neighbour....

A sequence of good deeds guarantees the maturing of the soul, the soul strives towards perfection, consequently the human being then fulfils the divine will when he carries out what brings him closer to God. The distance from God was the cause for the emergence of that which surrounds man. Now this is to contribute to reducing the distance. What is now undertaken to achieve this goal is in accordance with God's will. But what is merely an end in itself, what serves earthly well-being or contributes to the increase of matter, increases the distance from God and therefore cannot be God-willed.... (interruption)
