그리스도의 가르침. 십계명의 성취. 사랑의 계명.

사람에게 불쾌하게 보이는 가르침을 그가 영접하도록 움직이는 일은 단지 희귀하게 가능하다. 그러므로 모든 불협화음을 피하며 그에게 가르침을 전해야만 한다. 먼저 가르침에 대한 객관적인 근거를 제공해줘야만 한다. 사람은 단지 하나님의 사랑만이 사람을 고귀하게 만들기 위한 가르침을 준다는 것을 깨달아야만 한다. 이런 가르침은 사람들에게 그가 온전하게 되기 위해, 무엇을 해야 하는지, 어떤 존재가 되어야 하는지 보여준다. 사람은 가르침을 받아야만 한다. 사람에게 계명을 전해줘야만 한다. 사람은 자신이 요구받는 모든 것을 자원하여 실행에 옮겨야만 한다.

그러면 위로부터 주어진 가르침은 성공을 한다. 그러면 이 가르침이 목표로 삼은 혼의 성장이 사람에게 실현된다. 혼의 성장은 영원한 생명으로 들어가기 위한 선행조건이다. 그리스도의 가르침은 혼을 하나님의 뜻대로 변화시키는 일에 도움을 주는 모든 계명을 포함하고 있다. 그리스도의 가르침은 사람들에게 그들이 지켜야만 하는 기준을 준다. 그들은 하나님으로부터 무엇이 옳은 것인지, 올바르지 않은 것인지, 무엇을 해야 할지, 또는 무엇을 하지 말아야 할지를 배운다.

사람들이 이제 하나님을 기쁘게 하는 삶을 살기를 원한다면, 하나님을 섬기기를 원한다면, 하나님의 사랑을 얻기를 원한다면, 비록 이 계명이 자신들에게 특별히 마음에 들지 않을지라도, 그들은 이 계명을 정확하게 지켜야만 한다. 하나님의 계명을 지키는 일은 항상 자기를 다스리는 일을 요구한다. 하나님의 계명을 전적으로 모두 지키려면, 포기하는 일과 극복하는 일을 요구되고, 사람들은 항상 무엇인가를 포기해야만 한다. 왜냐하면 계명을 지키는 일은 항상 자기를 부인하는 것을 의미하기 때문이다.

하나님이 계명을 주신 이유는 사람들이 하나님이 원하는 것의 정반대의 것을, 즉 그의 계명을 통해 나타난 것의 정반대의 것을 추구하기 때문이다. 그러므로 하나님은 사람들에게 어느 정도 강요를 해야만 한다. 사람들은 마찬가지로 그들 안의 강한 갈망과 싸워야만 한다. 만약에 하나님이 이를 요구하지 않았다면, 그들은 싸우지 안했을 것이고, 그 결과로 그들은 내면의 갈망을 따랐을 것이고, 이로써 그들의 성장 상태는 아주 위험하게 되었을 것이다. 하나님이 사람들이 꼭 조심할 필요가 있는 모든 것들을 자신의 계명 안에 정해주었다. 하나님은 모든 계명들을 그의 사랑의 계명 안에 요약해주었다: „하나님을 무엇보다 사랑하고, 이웃을 내 몸처럼 사랑하라. “

누구든지 이 두 가지 계명을 신실하게 지키는 사람은 하나님이 십계명을 통해 행하라고 한 모든 일을 스스로 행할 것이다. 이처럼 하나님의 가르침은 항상 단지 사랑을 하라는 권면을 할 것이다. 사랑의 삶을 살려고 애쓰는 사람은 전적으로 하나님의 가르침에 따라서 산다. 그에게는 특별히 계명을 줄 필요가 없다. 왜냐하면 그는 사랑 안에서 살기 때문에 스스로 알아서 모든 사람에게 자신의 사랑을 베풀 것이기 때문이다. 그는 하나님의 계명에 어긋나는 것들을 혐오할 것이다. 그는 자신을 이미 사랑으로 변화시켰기 때문에 단지 사랑만을 줄 수 있다. 그의 삶은 항상 하나님의 가르침에 합당하게 될 것이다.

Teaching of Christ.... fulfilling the ten commandments.... commandment of love....

Man can seldom be persuaded to accept a teaching which appears to him to be annoying, and therefore it must be offered to him in such a way that any discord is avoided. It must first be objectively justified and the human being must recognize that only God's love gives such a teaching for the sake of his ennoblement. Man is shown what he should do and how he should be in order to become perfect.... He must be instructed, commandments must be imparted to him and he must willingly submit to everything that is demanded. Then the teaching from above is successful, then it brings him what its purpose is.... the degree of maturity of the soul, which is a prerequisite for entering eternal life. The teaching of Christ now encompasses all the commandments, the fulfilment of which contributes to the shaping of the soul according to God's will. People are given guidelines to which they must adhere; they are taught by God what is right and what is wrong, what they should do and what they should not do. And if they now want to live in a way that is pleasing to God, if they want to serve Him and gain His love, they must adhere strictly to the fulfilment of these commandments, even if they do not particularly appeal to them. The fulfilment of God's commandments will always require self-control, it will demand renunciation or overcoming, and the human being will always have to give up something if he wants to fully comply with the divine commandments. Because fulfilling the commandments always means self-denial. God has issued these commandments because people strive for precisely the opposite of what God wants and expresses through His commandments. He must therefore impose a certain compulsion on people, they must, as it were, fight against a strong desire within them, which they would not do, however, if it were not demanded by God, and the consequence of this would be that they would give in to the inner desire and their state of maturity would be highly jeopardized. God has laid down in His commandments everything that is necessary for people to observe, and He has summarized these commandments in His commandment of love: to love God above all things and your neighbour as yourself. Whoever faithfully fulfils these two commandments will do everything that God tells people to do through the ten commandments. And so the divine teaching will only ever exhort us to love, and anyone who endeavours to live in love will also live entirely in accordance with the divine teaching. He will not need to be given any special commandments, for he will, out of himself, because he lives in love, also show his love to every person; he will shy away from everything that goes against the divine commandments, for since he has already moulded himself into love, he cannot do anything other than give love and will always live his life in accordance with the divine teaching....
