Le aggressioni, armi dell’avversario

Non dovete mai darvi alle forze del maligno, perché la vostra volontà determina il loro potere su di voi. Appena questa volontà è rivolta a Dio, siete anche protetti contro i suoi attacchi e non sarete così esposti alle sue aggressioni. Ma è solo in agguato per il momento dove questa volontà è debole, per conquistare l’influenza su di voi. Perciò vegliate e pregate, non sentitevi mai così forti da non doverlo temere, ma sappiate che è costantemente in agguato intorno a voi e cerca di distogliervi da Dio. Perché sà delle debolezze del singolo e l’usa in un modo che l’uomo è in pericolo se non rimane in costante collegamento con Dio attraverso l’intima preghiera e l’agire d’amore. Dove viene esercitato l’amore, là il nemico urta contro una dura resistenza, perché là i suoi sforzi sono infruttuosi. L’agire d’amore è il mezzo più sicuro di bandirlo dalla vicinanza. L’avversario di Dio lascia intoccato un uomo attivo amorevolmente, perché attraverso il suo agire nell’amore è così intimamente unito con Dio che spezza qualsiasi potere dell’avversario. Perché l’Amore E’ Dio e contro Lui non può più combattere con successo. La volontà per il Bene è anche una forte arma contro di lui, solo la tiepidezza e la pigrizia sono un grande pericolo, perché significano debolezza di volontà e sono delle benvenute occasioni per l’avversario di Dio per far valere il suo potere. Costui è subito pronto a fortificare lo stato della debole volontà mentre tiene davanti agli occhi dell’uomo i piaceri che tengono catturati i suoi sensi e lo devono distogliere da ciò che unicamente è desiderabile, dall’unificazione con Dio. Egli cerca di disturbare l’intimità della preghiera e di conquistare l’influenza sul pensare degli uomini. Se gli riesce, allora l’uomo si perde nelle superficialità, il suo tendere diventa più debole e la sua forza cede nella resistenza. Un uomo che tende verso Dio lotta bensì di nuovo, ma è tempo perduto che è insostituibile, perché ogni risalita è faticosa e perciò più difficile, più in basso l’uomo sprofonda. Perciò vegliate e pregate, non cedete nel tendere verso Dio, invocateLo per la Sua Assistenza e vietate all’avversario ogni accesso a voi. Rimanete attivi nell’amore e opponete con ciò una resistenza ai suoi sforzi, allora avrete sempre la Forza per respingerlo e di sottrarvi alla sua influenza.

Challenges to the adversary and weapons....

You must never give yourselves over to the forces of evil, for your will determines its power over you. As soon as this will is turned towards God you are immune to his attacks and you will not be so exposed to his temptations. Yet he only lurks for moments when this will is weak in order to gain influence over him. Therefore watch and pray.... never feel so strong that you do not need to fear him, but know that he constantly lurks around you and tries to turn you away from God. For he knows about the weaknesses of the individual and uses them in such a way that the human being is in danger if he does not remain in constant contact with God through heartfelt prayer and loving activity. Where love is practiced, the enemy encounters stiff resistance, for there his efforts are fruitless. Loving activity is the surest way to banish him from the vicinity. God's adversary leaves a person who is active in love unmolested because he is so closely united with God through his activity of love that all power of the adversary is shattered. For love is God, and he can no longer successfully fight against God. The will to do good is likewise a strong weapon against him, only lukewarmness and sluggishness are a great danger, for they signify weakness of will and are welcome opportunities for God's adversary to bring his power to bear. He is immediately prepared to reinforce the weak-willed state by presenting the human being with pleasures which are intended to captivate his senses and turn him away from that which alone is worth striving for.... from union with God.... He seeks to disturb the intimacy of prayer and to gain influence over people's thinking. If he succeeds, man loses himself in superficialities, his spiritual striving weakens and his power to resist diminishes. A person who strives towards God will indeed fight his way through again, but it is lost time which is irreplaceable, for every ascent is arduous and therefore all the more difficult the deeper the person sinks. Therefore watch and pray, do not let up in your striving towards God, call upon Him for His help and thus deny the adversary access to you. Remain active in love and thereby resist his efforts, then you will always have the strength to fend him off and withdraw yourselves from his influence....
